- ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -7/+51haha, here's a comment by the original designer...
dude please, it was a test to show that I can produce glossy buttons and 2.0 design, it took me 2 days to finish it off. if you take a look on the rest of the page you’ll notice that I focus on stuff that are pretty analog and creative instead of plastic shiny *****..
get a life man, and stop acting like a design-god.

Hehe, relax desu, I really enjoyed the article. - ncbell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28"and there sure as hell ain’t no Arial on Apple.com."
so there is Arial on Apple.com. - Mulo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Designers take design seriously.
- pixelwerx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21@techie4life
"Your-mom" jokes will never go out of style. - Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18If you're going to mock-up a piece designed after a brand that has extremely high brand identity and extremely strict standards, you should expect to be held up for extremely harsh criticism when you miss the mark, by whatever degree.
- acff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14some people take apple (or any brand of anything) way too seriously.
- Moosebern, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Thanks for reitterating exactly what the article said. Really adding to it there.
/sarcasm - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10How to spot a fake new Apple design in one easy step:
If it isn't officially released by Apple, then it's a fake.
See, now that was easy, wasn't it? - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I don't know what's more pathetic: a fake design making it to the front page, or an article the guy feels he *needs* to write in order to debunk it.
What has digg come to these days... - BobbyShaftoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Like the content of this blog. I know NOTHING about design, but it seems intriguing, and I felt like I was learning about it through the criticisms of the mockup...
BUT I reeeaaaally didn't like the tone. Why do so many people have to act like they're so ***** hot? Even if you are, a little humility and tact is going to get you way more subscribers.
Desu probably would have appreciated the criticisms and treated them as real help if you weren't such a jerk about it. - Jedeye459, on 10/12/2007, -14/+22hehe, fun to read, and very insightful. Loved the line "Live the brand. Breathe the brand. Design the brand."
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11article: "Problem #2: Wrong Myriad"
dictionary.com: myr·i·ad /ˈmɪriəd/ (noun)
1. a very great or indefinitely great number of persons or things.
2. ten thousand.
Is the site using the wrong great number or the wrong ten thousand? - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Hey, it was either this or another lame "Here's what the iPhone is going to be like?", with the obligitory question mark at the end.
There needs to be less Apple speculation articles on Digg. Of course with MacWorld coming up, it's bound to be a frenzy of such until after the keynote and the rumors are laid to rest.
Even as a Mac fan, I find a lot of these hardly worth the time. - MNiT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myriad_%28typeface%29
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I quite liked desu's design...
I don't think either of them are dicks... both of them demonstrated their strengths... desu is good at design, the article author is good at maintaining brand consistency...
they'd make a great team... - MNiT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Being 'anal' about anti aliased type (or whatever...) is part of being a major player in the design world.
I see a lot of people calling this guy this that and the other for being fussy. But what else is top-end advertising design if not fussy? Attention to detail is what makes high quality design high quality. - turbodigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@ardener
"Live your mom. Breathe your mom. Design your mom. -desu"
A little too much time on 4chan perhaps? - mynameistim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7 (fake nerd voice) meeeeh...nerpity nerp Are you kidding me? This design has aliased Arial as the main text and everyone knows apple anti-aliases their text meeehh! (/fake nerd voice)
what a freaking nerd - ectocooler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7that story yesterday should have never been front paged, that submitter is an absolute moron. new apple site??? yeah okay.
- tehnico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Don't worry, the actual artist debunks it himself.
The design was a test as part of a job application for Fantasy Interactive.
The author of the article is just a dumass for finding it and thinking he can make a big smear story out of it.

Arial vs. Helvetica - Can *you* tell the difference? - orientis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6My god, what a pile of wank. You suck.
- nahdan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4don't read this article and think you were learning something about design.
real designers don't look at details. only brand-bitches look solely at details.
the poster is probably some cs major turned designer wannabe. - Smuikas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's not just being anal about the aliasing; It's also anal about being /arial/.
There are huge issues with using the Arial font. I hate it. It's ugly. It's a cheap knockoff of Helvetica. At least it's not a serifed font. My point is, any typographer worth his salt knows this, and stays as far away as necessary. Especially in an image on a button, like that.
For more on why Arial is absolutely terrible to use (and apple even uses it as the second-to-last font-family in their CSS; things like verdana come first): http://www.ms-studio.com/articles.html .... - jobo5432, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What's more pathetic is that enough apple fanboys dugg it to the front page. I can't believe how miserable of an algorithm digg has to get this crap listed first.
On one hand, the article must have appealed to enough dopes to get them to digg (assuming they read the article first - which we shouldn't) it to the front page, which is what Digg is all about, but c'mon there is absolutely no weight given to the content of the article when determining it's placement on the digg list. I'm sorry to say that my Digg readership gets more sporadic every day. Hello Reddit! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Then you wouldn't be making a redesign, would you?
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wait, wait, wait... are you suggesting that a completely false an inaccurate story could reach the front page of Digg!?!?
NO! Never! - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://www.apple.com/macosx/tiger/

i.e. Apple tends to delineate PRO stuff with a black theme. - happyperson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't believe nobody else has clocked the flash based video player, surely apple.com uses the embedded QT player?
- kiantech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2spotting a lame apple story, http://digg.com/apple/popular/today
- pinky24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you will also notice the title of the original site...
"DESIGN TEST - DESMOND ARSAN" - zephris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The write of the post failed to recognize that the design is part of a designer's portfolio. It was a design for a company as a "test design". It was never indicated as a new Apple design. See for yourself. Click the link.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MacParrot, ol'buddy, how y'a doing?
"I would agree that this is hardly worth digg's front page, however (...)"
At least we DO agree with something, don't we? - panic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Get it over with, just give Steve Jobs a reach around. The guy who wrote this article is annoying.
- Subcide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Since when is tiger a "pro" product?
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Absolutely naio. Even though I'm a Mac guy, that doesn't mean I'm going to digg Apple related articles that I deem as worthless to me. Others obviously found it worthy and more power to them I guess. I just get tired of the anti-Apple BS as much as you probably get tired of the anti-MS or anti-Linux BS. The point is that people made their choices as to what OS they wanted some time ago, and no amount of SCREAMER CAPS or accusations of fanboyism is going to change their minds. That's what makes it useless noise on both sides.
This isn't on topic, but I'll say it anyway. As far as the Zune goes, I have very good non-fanboy reasons for not liking it. I won't bother to repeat them here (look it up in my "commented on" if you care), but it has nothing to do with MS as a company or any blind loyalty to Apple or the iPod.
@laz
My name really has nothing to do with being an Apple repeater whatever THAT is. I use Macs and I enjoy Jimmy Buffet music (parrothead). But OK, whatever works for you. - ronnsprocket, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9nougat,
uh, a dick? his mock up just got ***** violated by some skeezer who takes no more than two aleve in 24 hrs. this desu guy made a fancy shmancy 2.0 design. if it was important to nail all the apple design trademarks, i think he has the capacity to do so.
nougat. i dont know you, but i bet i wouldnt like you - feenikz4180, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"This one’s a massively novice mistake as well. It’s iTunes+iPod "
Its not actually... Its iPod+iTunes. www.apple.com - dietprozac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Hey guys! You're never gunna believe this! Santa isn't real!!! "
Sharp eyes indeed, O.P. We are in your debt for exposing the shenanigans of this crafty faker. - lazlonger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@Macparrot
So pointing out the stupidity and lemming like behavior of Apple fanboys is now a new form of bandwagon-jumping? Sounds like Bush Regime table turning *****. Even your name says it all, Apple-repeater....
In the immortal words of Towely, "No, YOU'RE a towel." - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The issue for me isn't fake Apple design v. real thing (as if anyone with three brain cells ever considered this to be real).
The issue is that the "designer" who made this said himself that "it was a test to show that I can produce glossy buttons and 2.0 design." It's sad that people equate "knowing how to use Photoshop" with being a designer. - ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I may be a "dork". You may be a "third-grader". Therefore?
- josh84p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone has too much time...
- Ahnteis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think the point was to try a new design out and he used apple for his target. I don't think it was ever mean to be a fake. That said, if you're going to use a known brand for practicing, it's important to make sure you follow their design.
- ths453, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This has more to do about design then apple. The guy might as well have used comic sans. Designers have to follow strict rules from a company Like fonts, spacing , colors, size, and a whole bunch of other crap. That's why they make graphic standards manuals, so dumb asses like him wont make their ***** look stupid. This guys just an amature desktop publisher with no training at all. Even if it is a mock up, you still have to do your research and that's #1 rule.
- addListener, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Let’s take a quick step-by-step at why this design is clearly a fake..."
You must be the most pretentious and self righteous ****wad ever. You actually wrote an artical debating whether a design by someone who, at that time, did it as a test applying for a job is real or not?
Before you're completely consumed by ego and there's nothing but a big smelly fart left, please consider reading up on what you're actually debating before posting such an ignorant post...
Six feet under... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.design-sites.net/optimization/creation-of-references/
What you think? - digitalrift, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1buried as wrong topic. I removed apple from my front page for a reason, and that wasn't for the apple zealots to invade other catagories. Now, GTFO.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+11I can't believe such a stupid, lame and splog article has got frontpaged. Apple fanboys are SOOOOO worthless...
