- theboredom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21I like him and at the same time I am fearful that he will shank me.
- worldofsmut, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22The difference between Soviet Mouse and Farfour (Hamas Mickey Mouse) is that the Soviet version wasn't teaching three year old kids that it is good to die and kill others. Moreover, whereas the Soviet Union is consigned to the dustbin of history, Hamas is a tragic reality - their mouse was on TV daily until he was 'killed off' (by a badly acted Jewish stereotype) a few weeks ago. He was since replaced by Nahool, a bee who last week taught young Palestinian kids how to abuse animals. Sesame Street it ain't!

- vladdythegeek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I think it's clear that the Soviets were trying to avoid creating a Cartoon Mouse Gap with the US.
- reflex768, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Good call GC. It does look a little Steamboat Willie-esque. Recap:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=uKm41_LMPRM - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14In Soviet Russia Mickey mouses you.
- Theisos, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10You Suck
- manoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You make jokes about this stupid pic and about the soviet union, but you should behave yourself more PC, not? You never lived in the Easter block and I think you do not understand what does it mean to see something from the "west" in Eastern Europe.
- manoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Ok. I try to explain some things. First of all I live in Hungary (you know, the country in Eastern Europe, where socialist party screwed up a year ago), so I can talk only about what was there in the communist era. But this applies roughly to all other countries in the Eastern block.
Every information (films, newspapers, radio, tv, including Mickey Mouse) from the "West" and especially from the US was controlled by the Party. When I say Party, I mean the Communist Party. The Party decided which movies can be shown to the public which not. The Party decided what can be written in the newspapers and what not. Ohh... I have to mention that it was state-level controlled how many and what kind of newspapers could be on the streets.
And if you read/heard about the "west", the state propaganda said always, that "They, and the Capitalism in general is rotting, but we and the Communism in general are on the good way".
But people do not (always) belived the propaganda. Especially when they got the chance to travel to West Germany or to England or whatever.
And what about Mickey Mouse? Mickey Mouse was - and it is :-) - the child of the capitalism, so it represented something from the "west". Something else than everything you saw in the Eastern block. Something that is a product of something that is (hopefully) better than the communism. - inactive, on 08/26/2008, -1/+9The inspiration for "Jigsaw", perhaps?
- jellygraph, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9doesnt look all that scary to me??? looks like the old classic micket mouse.
how can this be worse than a genocidal mouse? - wiifm69, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9He's chained to the ground, and being oppressed, definitely looks communist
- 68024, on 10/10/2007, -1/+76 years is old? How old are you? 2?
- JorgeGT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Please explain yourself Manoe, I'm very interested in the lifestyle and points of view during the communist era in the Easter block.
Could you please share with us what they felt about something like this? I'd like to know.
Thanks! - kiloWatt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6by something you mean hammer, right?

That looks waaay more deranged to me than this one! - mapkinase, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Those diggers with their ignorance...
- skinturtle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Those people are crazy for sure...teaching children that crap. What a dangerous mindset.

- NoSalt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They loathe us yet they copy us ... go figure.
- JorgeGT, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Thanks for your explanation!
That's what I was thinking, or that's what I learned in my last visit to Eastern Europe. I managed to escape from the "city centre" tourist standard things and take a look over the surroundings of the capitals. I was impressed how different the communist blocks were from former buildings, and talked much about it with the guide in the free time (and managed to visit a pair of museums about it).
However, I was very happy to notice the ilusion of the people I talked to about how to solve economic and social problems, and raise the economical power of the region, because it remembered me what I learned about the end of the fascist dictatoship (and fascist thinking) in my own country, Spain. I'm sure things will get better in this years.
PS: Budapest is a bit cold in December for a poor Spaniard - but it's an incredibly interesting place! - avatarpalin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What about Eastern Europe favorite Cat and Mouse "Worker and Parasite"?
- kiloWatt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Neither do I, kids these days can't tell Soviet from Russian Federation to save their lives, I guess.
- mentor972, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Digg>Technology>Design?
- championchap, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6I appreciate that you put up 3 links in case one got removed from high traffic.. but why not just use BayIMG?
- lavenderblue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree. It's charming, in an old-fashioned way.
- adamantium, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2[Ukrainian Accent] In Soviet Russia, creepy oversized rodent who enslave poor canine laugh at you.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Damn! Why doesn't the main stream media ever show this.
- andyzdigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Let me get this straight... Hamas hates western influence (and Russia to an extent) yet they copy western icons such as Mickey Mouse? Sounds hypocritical to me.
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi-c6lbFGC4&mode=related&search=
- rnd1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, that site is quite lame. I'm from Latvia and I was wondering why there are pics from different locations in Latvia during Soviet times and some from Moscow which, of course, isn't in Latvia. If you make a gallery under a name "Latvia" then put only latvian pics there not russian or something else. But that's no wonder, 'cause a lot of ,let's say, western people think that we are still a part of Russia.
- kiloWatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Borat: Wow this is *NOT* interesting!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4That is the original model of Mickey Mouse. It has nothing to do with the Soviet Union.
