- Angostura, on 10/25/2009, -39/+417Ah, the irony. The flow chart uses comic sans and is viewable by the public. It needs an 'are you being ironic?' decision node.
Lame, buried. - lendrick, on 10/25/2009, -3/+279Comic Sans is the font of choice for annoying HR people who like to hang up condescending signs around the office.
A sign that says "Please refill the ice trays so that our neighbors can have cold drinks too! :)" is almost always written in Comic Sans. A sign that says "Please refill the ice trays if you empty them" is usually written in Times New Roman. - ImOscar, on 10/25/2009, -15/+193On this page: Diggers who know nothing about graphic design ragging on Comic Sans, because they heard that's OK to do.
- painting, on 10/25/2009, -16/+175comic sans > papayrus
- deathandtaverns, on 10/25/2009, -7/+137What if you need to fill in the word bubbles for a comic?
- fleischkopf, on 10/25/2009, -14/+139Does hating Nickelback make one a music snob? Comic Sans is the Nickelback of fonts.
- Jaq524, on 10/25/2009, -0/+110When I was in grade school, Papyrus was the font I used for all my AIM conversations. That was about 8-9 years ago, and I can finally admit it.
- ChromaVita, on 10/25/2009, -2/+109Impact is perfectly acceptable for some situations. Those situations being lolcats.
- Masquatto, on 10/25/2009, -0/+94Guys I made a flowchart too.
Should I make my chart a jpeg?

[Is it a photo of a chart?]
...|
Nope.

[Then don't.] - Vintersemestre, on 10/25/2009, -0/+76This is true, especially since everyone that uses papyrus thinks they've stumbled on some arcane font.
- harmonica, on 10/25/2009, -1/+76A documentary about comic sans.
http://vimeo.com/1994310 - terminal157, on 10/25/2009, -6/+74Any time you want to piss off a font snob. Which should be literally 24 hours a day.
- RAAFStupot, on 10/25/2009, -0/+67Dugg for your perceptive insight into human nature vis-a-vis fonts and their selections for use.
- srg13, on 10/25/2009, -3/+64Use well designed comic fonts?
http://www.blambot.com/fonts.shtml - filolif, on 10/25/2009, -1/+53yo comic sans, imma let you finish but helvetica had the best kerning of all time... OF ALL TIME
- bringitontimx, on 10/25/2009, -8/+60You underestimate the quantity of professionals here. Diggers are ***** smarter than Youtubers.
- twiztidsinz, on 10/25/2009, -4/+51Anyone care to explain the 'why' for all the hate of Comic Sans?
Or is this a typical 'I hate it cuz it's cool to hate it'/'I hate it cuz no one else hated it and I want to be unique, but now everyone is copying me' internet thing? - ryrocker, on 10/25/2009, -1/+47cian, magenta, yellow, and black... the primary color used for print
go fk yourself. - TheAngryMob, on 10/25/2009, -2/+47The truth about Comic Sans:
http://www.reallifecomics.com/archive/091011.html - Syric, on 10/25/2009, -1/+44No, you don't understand. Using smiley faces in signs is actually very condescending.
- NeoTechni, on 10/25/2009, -7/+49Really, anytime you feel like it. Don't let ***** on digg control you
- x0epyon0x, on 10/25/2009, -3/+45There's a guy at work who uses Comic Sans for everything. He even changed his Rational Software Architect font to Comic Sans. He's a strange fellow.
- RAAFStupot, on 10/25/2009, -1/+43Nonsense - papayas are great!
- TheMagician2007, on 10/25/2009, -10/+50http://bancomicsans.com/
- elipabst, on 10/25/2009, -0/+38You think that's bad. At my work, the default Powerpoint template that *EVERYONE* uses was done in comic sans. I thought it was some kind of ***** joke because everyone takes the aesthetics of their slides extremely seriously, even for internal meetings. But no, the slides go up week-after-week with ***** comic sans on there. The Boss even gave me ***** for using Myriad pro (the default illustrator font) because it looked too italic-like...I wanted to do a face-palm right there. I swear I work in the Twilight Zone some days.
- fattehboi, on 10/25/2009, -12/+46yo ***** comic sans, I used that ***** in 4th grade.
- mayorjamie, on 10/25/2009, -1/+34Comic Sans just reminds me of being 12 years old and discovering instant messaging.
- innovati, on 10/25/2009, -0/+32that's the first step on your long journey of recovery Jaq524. Just know that you're not alone - I used Papyrus on a cover of a story I wrote in french in the 6th grade and I can finally admit that now that I'm a designer. You're not alone!
- GelfTheElf, on 10/25/2009, -6/+37As a typeface in comics.
- MadHarvey, on 10/25/2009, -3/+33It is just another Internet meme, but people don't realize it.
Like hating Nickelback, liking Bacon, etc.
Yeah, yeah, people will Digg me down, and respond: but I really DO hate Comic Sans, and bacon is AMAZING!
Yeah, suddenly, after all these years of typeface apathy you've decided to rally against a font.
You know what font REALLY bothers people who have actually studied design/typography? TIMES NEW ***** ROMAN. It is the absolute ugliest typeface in existence.
If you actually cared about typography, you'd be setting up websites to ban Times New Roman, which is WAY more overused, instead of rallying around Comic Sans like some Internet drone.

using smiley faces when issuing a request to stop an undesirable activity can often be construed as passive aggressiveness, since the person giving the request may be understandably upset over said activity yet will try to cover up that aggression with positive symbols or language laced with subtle hints suggesting that the next communique might not be so friendly. - stouffer67, on 10/25/2009, -0/+28I'm pretty sure they used it on purpose.
- TBBucs, on 10/25/2009, -2/+29So...when CAN I use comic sans?
- christoast, on 10/25/2009, -0/+27well, I've got nothing to do. why not
- Sazime, on 10/25/2009, -10/+36Agreed. I don't get the hate, myself. If you're consumer Joe and you like the font, you shouldn't be called an idiot for doing so. Elitists are lame within any subject.
- bryceman111, on 10/25/2009, -3/+29Well, technically, you should refer to it as a typeface.
- tsotha, on 10/25/2009, -3/+28The substantive complaints about comic sans are basically 1) It's sans serif, and serifs are supposed to sort of point your eyes to the next letter, allowing the text to flow smoothly, and 2) kerning algorithms don't handle it very well, so the letters end up with uneven spacing.
- bringitontimx, on 10/25/2009, -1/+26least harshest?
- Syric, on 10/25/2009, -1/+26I'm pretty sure anybody who's ever used a printer knows what that means.
- filolif, on 10/25/2009, -2/+26This is like saying cat ***** is better than dog *****...
- zyklon, on 10/25/2009, -8/+31Half of the time, it's for comedy and because it's fun to make fun of Comic Sans, the miserable failure it is. But then people use it seriously for signage in their business or places like that, and it becomes a real problem. It's not about snobbery, it's about a monstrosity being hated for good reasons.
- HeavyWave, on 10/25/2009, -0/+23That's actually more important than the Comic Sans bash.
- arthursk, on 10/25/2009, -0/+22No *****, and he should have, what the ***** makes you think your good enough to use the PRO version of Myriad...
- tacojohn48, on 10/25/2009, -2/+24No, gay people are supposed to be good at design.
- Transporter2000, on 10/25/2009, -0/+22Well, when I managed a retail store and the staff wasn't cleaning up after themselves in the break room, I printed out a 24 X 36 poster, used IMPACT font at about 300 points and wrote "YOUR MOMMA DOESN'T WORK HERE - CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES"...
Perhaps Comic Sans would have been a little more subtle? - Ralph23, on 10/25/2009, -1/+23Normal ink colors of a printer.
...This has what to do with a font? - bryceman111, on 10/25/2009, -2/+23Same goes for Papyrus.
- anotherjack, on 10/25/2009, -1/+22Design one font for computer use, get it to work, come back and say that again.
- cliffdavis, on 10/25/2009, -0/+20So you became the boss, and instead of pointing it out to her in a direct and professional manner, you are being passive aggressive and juvenile about it? She is a programmer, not a graphic designer. Based upon your description of her actions within her work scope, it wouldn't be a huge leap to think she may be ignorant of things outside of it. Making fun of her to other employees is a great way for her to end up 'protected' due to a formal complaint to HR/higher ups about how you 'have it in for her'. If that happens, good luck removing her for even a valid reason.
