- Azimuth1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+241What I really want is to be able to drag the slider and have it go through every frame of the video, like Google Video does, rather than it skipping out chunks.
- alsp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+195I agree, the best part is the ability to jump to any part of the video before it has fully downloaded. It was something I always liked about the Google Video player and have been eagerly anticipating its addition to YouTube for a while, purely from a usability standpoint...
- johnburk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+124Now lets hope they also boost the 425x350 to something like 550x440 and increase video quality.
- namtellum, on 10/11/2007, -7/+94Seek help.
- andydude117, on 10/11/2007, -3/+86why is it still ugly
- Salgat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+79I'm more interested in higher resolutions(stage6.divx.com).
- davidhildreth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+61no azimuth1
actually increasing the resolution not just stretching the video out, it already looks bad enough
640x480 would be nice - davidhildreth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+60listen, my phantom game console plays flash 11 so ***** yourself
- cyroxos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+58I truly miss the old Google player. It was just so well designed, and could scale wonderfully. I wonder if you will now be able to do that thing where you append #2m41s at the end of the url and be able to link people to a specific spot in the video.
- davidhildreth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+59it's functional i guess, but they could be a little more creative.
- DigitAl56K, on 10/11/2007, -6/+52Just use Stage6,
http://stage6.divx.com
You can even post 1080p videos if you like. - mikewhite314, on 10/11/2007, -0/+38I wish they would make the volume slider on the embedded player horizontal and incorporated into the bottom panel, so it doesn't pop out over the video. It's annoying to have to click twice to adjust the volume, and you can end up accidentally clicking the video instead, which causes a new page to open.
- Okari, on 10/11/2007, -1/+38The Wii.
- Xorp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+38YouTube's video quality needs a serious boost. Look at IGN's flash streaming option for their videos, that ***** looks FANTASTIC.
- Salgat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+38A larger more pixelated image isn't really what he meant by larger resolution.
- monsterenergy, on 10/11/2007, -11/+46whats wrong with the related videos on the side..i actually like that feature.
- davidhildreth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+33I agree, it is great what the site has done to take video streaming mainstream but larger resolutions and higher bit rates are overdue.
It's not like google doesn't have the server space or bandwidth. - the_d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31They also need to start putting more key-frames into the video as they encode them. It's frustrating when you can only scrub every 6 or 8 seconds.
- kript, on 10/11/2007, -6/+34I wish they would get rid of them ugly little red buttons...
- geoffreyireland, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28The player will add a feature that was already available in Google Video: jump to any part of the video even if the video isn't fully downloaded.
- Thank god for that. Always wanted it in YouTube. - tuxidomasx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26what would also be neat would be if the user could modify the audio/video synchronization as they are watching it... many videos are out of sync and that would be an easy fix
- dawgma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+25I just wish I that when I click on a particular point on the timeline that the "cursor" would actually go there.
I hate how the timeline cursor always seems to snaps to a point 10 to 30 seconds earlier than I wanted to watch... it makes instant replays useless... - chrislee149, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29Facebook Video has only existed for a day.
- STARTSOMETHING, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23its kinda ironic how the screenshots are of copyrighted material.
- Eragmus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24Uh, this seems as good a place as any to post a greasemonnkey script that makes YouTube take the format of Google Video, and very successfully I might add. Seriously, I've been using this script for several months now, and it's worked perfectly and makes a lot better use all the white space which is currently wasted.

- yugiohdan6, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Just as long as it's still Flash 7...
- tensafefrogs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18@goosnargh
the youtube player already does that (if you have flash player 9.0.28+) - Konrad9, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Can we download the videos yet?
We stream them, which has got to be just about the same amount of bandwidth as downloading, so why not? : (
I just want to see a "download now" button... - thrallie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14One good reason: Pocket PC's (windows mobile 5)
- chrislee149, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Yeees, I no longer have to wait in awkward silence for people with slow connections to load apparently funny videos.
- darkyoshi, on 10/11/2007, -5/+17stage6 == teh win
- thehuntedpossum, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12seriously, all the videos i've uploaded have that problem.
- Livewire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11@thehuntedpossum (#6898488)
From my experience, it's from uploading variable bitrate (vbr) videos. Try constant bitrate (cbr). - ventro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I tried to make something better:
http://www.digg.com/design/What_the_YouTube_Player_Redesign_SHOULD_Look_Like_PIC - indraneel24, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12they've had this on Facebook for awhile now, i think
- homeagain1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8The video size on YouTube is actually not even 425x350, it's just scaled up from 320x240.
- SanDaiFez, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Nevermind [bury]
- withoutashovel, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13because flash 9 doesnt work with wii. im just pointing that out.
and here comes the next gen flame war. - Eragmus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Oops. I forgot to mention that for anyone who does install the above script, notice the tiny "-" and "+" buttons on the top left and top right of the screen. Those are very important. One instantly resizes the video to full screen, while the other resizes the video vertically.
That's all. - UnitedAssault, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Great, they made it worse. Why can't they make it look more of, say, Google Video or Metacafe?
- BaumSquad, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5No he's saying youtube videos posted to Facebook are embedded with the new features. So it looks like the embedded player of youtube content is working like this, at least when it's called from Facebook.
I just played back a video I posted to facebook. When you click the preview button, it opens the embedded youtube player, and you have the new features. They do look like features built specifically for the embedded player. Things like the "other videos" showing up at the bottom is pretty pointless when you are already on the youtube site, and they can show those elsewhere on the page. It's pretty slick, though. And the menu to easily copy the embedded link right from there is pretty nice. Definitely the jumping ahead is the best. It still takes a little bit to buffer and load, but obviously infinitely better than having no option at all.
So if you have facebook, post a youtube video, and then play it back within there.
(but I have played around with facebook's own video option that did just come out, and it's pretty slick too. Tagging videos to friends and all that is implemented very well, just like tagging photos in Facebook) - betona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Amen. One day in the future you will look back at this era and wonder why anyone was interested in viewing horribly pixelated videos that were not much larger than a business card.
- lagged, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Mine plays Duke Nukem Forever. Nyah.
- RoflMyWaffle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3does anyone else feel a very frontrow-eskness coming from this?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Thank you Google! I HATE Youtube's current video player. I'm glad they came in and decided to bring it up to their standards.
- understudy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4
See: http://digg.com/design/What_the_YouTube_Player_Redesign_SHOULD_Look_Like_PIC
_ - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3So they're sticking with the stupid circle and red line? Vimeo's player with the autohiding controls is the best I've seen, and I wish youtube would copy it. Fixed screen controls are on their way out.
- ifonly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3To be honest they still need to redo the tacky grey gradient bar and buttons, they just look crap.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I just hope this dosen't make video playback waste any more cpu power than the current player, on ym anchient system youtube is about the only website with imbedded flash video that actually still plays smoothly, and even they just barely.
