- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Iron Man armor designs from the comics:
http://www.ironmanarmory.com/armors.html - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Yeah, it's always good to have a high-quality reliable host like Imageshack on standby when things like this happen!
wait what - LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Looks too Halo to me.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Anyone else notice the Freedom Tower in the second image?
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Yuck. That looks like Rubber Suit Man, not Iron Man.
Besides, the fact that Favreau wanted to go with a Granov-inspired design is no secret, it's one of the first things that he said in the message boards of his MySpace group:
http://groups.myspace.com/ironmanmovie - jayfarer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It looks like an expensive power ranger.
Though I can't think of how to make it better yet mobile. - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The problem with directors today is that they're all trying to make their mark on existing classic franchises by completely changing everything that made the original a classic to begin with. See Michael Bay's Transformers designs for a perfect example of this.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Jon Favreau is a pretty big Iron Man fan, dude.
...plus, he's a great director. The only question is, how he handles something that isn't comedy and has a ton of special effects. - rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It shoud look like iron, not plastic.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6why do they have to completely redesign costumes every time? there was daredevil, x-men, fantastic four, only spiderman looks pretty much "authentic".
regardless of how good a story might be, i have a hard time sitting through a movie when i have to stare at an integral part of the story that's completely WRONG.
why do they need concept drawings!?! WTF, can't they just say, 'iron man #242 yeah, that's what we're looking for.' ??
sorry, ironman was one of my favs. :( - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Those original CGI renders looked spot-on, I wonder if they want something more like the Army's LandWarrior system?
And since when does James Bond use a mechanical suit, nor does Tom Clancy ever written about such technology! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Im sorry but if your making a film based on another format, shouldn't your strive to use what that format uses?
Sin City is a perfect example. - mister_llah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm confused. Tom Clancy ... Iron Man? I am not really seeing any sort of feasibly connection.
Tom Clancy's Iron Man would simply be a guy wearing body armor and potentially a face mask (but even that would be a bit too surreal, a face mask has severe impracticalities).
Regardless, this does not at all match the image of Iron Man from the comic book.
James Bond, maybe, I mean, they did have Jaws and all.
===
Bloody cool costume that got rejected, sadly. - Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Looks more like plastic man to me.
- corduroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The CG looks great, however, I'm definitely not a fan of that design. It looks busy just for the sake of looking high-tech... reminds me of the nippled Batman designs.
I searched for adi granov and his website: http://www.sofos.com/adi/ has a few pictures and in my opinion, if granov's design is similar to his ironman pictures posted on his site, then i agree with the decision made by the director. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Granov's design is way more suited for film, i think.
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That was the same conclusion I came to! I do like the CG renders though, but if these were rejected, I trust that they have much better ones they are holding onto.

I see what you're saying, but the truth of the matter is that some costumes that look good on the printed page dont look so good on the big screen.
For example Wolverine looked good in the black jumpsuit in the X-Men movies, but my favourite costume from the comics is the yellow one that he was wearing when he ripped through the Hellfire club. - newbietheatre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It doesn't look too bad to me. I think something simpler would be more effective though.
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I like to think that he took one look at the lens flare on that second image and said "Get the hell out of my office!"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8oh great another ***** up comic to film movie because the director doesn't know *****.
This is why Peter Jackson has let a fanboy direct the Halo movie, because he himself was a fanboy for Lord of the Rings and knows what it's like to let some idiot screw something up that he loves. - Democritus2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Rats, I thought it was the other Iron Man (from song)
Am I the only person in existance who thinks that song would make a great movie? The good guy turns into monster and after saving peoples lives he decides to say ***** it and wastes them after they cant come to terms with his monster-ness.
I will keep hoping. - ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thought that said "Reject Iron Maiden Costume Design" for a second. I was dissapointed. D:
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The dude made a sweet Gatorade commercial though. On the other hand, his website looks like it's circa 1992.
http://www.brandonperlow.com/Broadcast30v04_DIRECTORsCut_32505.mov - Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You know, these are rejected designs. If you don't like them, then why are you complaining about how terrible the film will be? This vision was rejected! Wouldn't that mean the filmmakers were on the right track?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"The problem with directors today is that they're all trying to make their mark on existing classic franchises by completely changing everything that made the original a classic to begin with."
One of the worst examples of this is Starship Troopers. It lacked the battle armor that was one of the key elements of the story COMPLETELY. People don't realize that Starship Troopers was the first story to have robot "battle armor" which served as the inspiration for the countless anime movies after, and even Halo itself. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3BEHOLD : LENS FLARE
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope they find a nice metal suit design that doest make the guy move like robocop or C3PO.
- Sowdi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know about any body else but I think it looks a lot like Samus' Power suit.
- kotatsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks absolutely terrible, as bad as the Power Rangers style Green Goblin design from the Spiderman movie. Top marks to the man who said no to it.
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd love it if they make it like the one in the CAPCOM arcade games. That'd kick ass.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Splinter Cell?
That's basically Batman though. I guess he didn't want to say we want to make Iron Man like Batman. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Besides, the fact that Favreau wanted to go with a Granov-inspired design is no secret"
Did I say it was? The photos of the rejected design is the news. - norman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2zathura had a ton of special effects...
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@coldfusion:
excellent point about the limitation of "real costumes". however, i can't agree with you on wolverine looking "great" in the black jumpsuit. i did think the suit looked "ok" though.
that being said, i completely respect you and your opinions after you threw your hellfire club comments in. the john byrne era of xmen comics are by far, in my opinion, the best illustrated/written comics ever, bar none.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a9/Uxm141.png - ionblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like the costume they're going with better (judging from the teaser). Its pretty much exactly the same design as in the new comics. Plus Favreau's a pretty good director, so I'm not too worried about this movie
- ashlvsya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Power Rangers anyone?
- slackerbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Iron Man has always looked pretty much the opposite of "beefy." The strength is pretty much all from the suit. And the thinking probably is from the suit half the time, what with Tony Stark being a recovering alcoholic and all. =)
- ProfessorRiffs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He obviously wears Iron Man Underoos.
- jasonchute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agree 100%
The costume just doesn't have that 'rough and tough' look that Iron Man should have. - iggee85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...So why don't they just use his design?
- dharm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3it looks pretty accurate, except for one thing. Ironman seemed alot bigger.
needs to look more beefy - HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Im sorry but if your making a film based on another format, shouldn't your strive to use what that format uses?"
It's called an adaptation.
Using your logic, any movie based on a novel would be 2 hours of text on the screen. - Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's not exactly true. If you look throughout the Micheline/Layton runs (the definitive Iron Man IMHO), particularly the post-alcoholic days, Tony is in pretty good shape (and since the suit then was more of a flexible mesh that polarized when powered up, the physique was Tony's). He's not just an alcoholic, but a guy with a severe health condition (bad heart) who was really trying to give himself as much of a fighting chance, through both science and physical fitness.
- a99tandem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm..Yeah... looks too much like Samus.
- acjunglist203, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The designs remind me of Metroid Prime...less the really large shoulders of course...
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I see what your saying it would work as a mytho to a degree, but it has no real ending or movement really.
"Heavy boots of lead, Fills his victims full of dread, Running as fast as they can, Iron man lives again!"
Its not like your going to get any of them to be conscious enough to say 'oh yeah its part of a story i wrote about ...' or 'i got the idea from ...'. Also some connection with people like Ian Anderson (Tull) or what not didn't exist at the time. So there is no theft or mix-up you can steal from.
The Origins of BS would make a good movie, that first show with Jethro Tull would be pretty cool little tale to play out on the scene. - vich11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey guys, there's a NEW concept drawing of the armor here:

Vic - Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the Seinfeld reference. Everyone else seemed to miss it...
