- Murrabbit, on 03/26/2008, -2/+24Is it just me or does this article's title and quick summary reek of viral marketing?
- theuber1337, on 03/26/2008, -0/+18Believe it or not, I don't want to attract the chicks that only care what my car looks like.
- rentmitchum, on 03/26/2008, -0/+7But if they make the car now, how will I get one in the future to drive around in my Enterprise? Nothing about this adds up at all! Where's my chronograph!?
- lamiaconfitor, on 03/26/2008, -0/+5You beat me to it, if someone wants to sleep with me because of my car, I don't want to think of what kind of stds I would get from that shallow slut. Not to mention the cost of bail money for sleeping with a teenager.
- chandan333, on 03/26/2008, -0/+4$ 26,000
- ripple123, on 03/26/2008, -1/+5I just think its great to send the message to the general public that the electric car is about as attainable as spacecraft that travel at multiples of the speed of light. Just faaaantastic......

..................................., - lacreme, on 03/26/2008, -1/+5if electric car companies stopped trying to be so radical and made normal looking electric cars they would probably take off faster.
electric bmw m3...mmm - ripple123, on 03/26/2008, -0/+4The Tesla. Now thats a nice looking electric car.
- positron, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3They should have a character make a passing comment about it being a "classic car" otherwise the movie will be severely dated for future viewers if the car ends up going into production.
- UcIc, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3I wonder how much room there is inside the cabin. I have an S-10 Extended cab pickup and while it's not much at all in comparison to other vehicles, the extended cab area is plenty of room for my needs.
An electric vehicle that can actually get above 80mph, is only $26,000 and gets ~300mpg? Sign me up for one. - bremstrong, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3With gas over $3/gal, a 300 mpg hybrid car should generate quite a bit of interest. And it is nothing if not extremely futuristic looking.
That said, who knows? Any story here could be here because someone paid for diggs, really. - EdgeOfEpsilon, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3If it looked "normal," it wouldn't get 300 mpg. 60-80% of a car's energy consumption is pushing air out of the way.
Unfortunately, we're so used to design-by-emotion rather than design-by-function that people automatically assume they're doing it "to be futuristic."
I mean, I suppose they could have use the stunning design exhibited by their prototype as a final product: http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/14/aptera-takes-wr ... - EdgeOfEpsilon, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3There's one in every Aptera story… http://aptera.com/details.php
Long story short, it's not as unsafe as it looks. Don't judge a book by its … cowling. - theuber1337, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3looser than what?
- LucidHawk, on 03/26/2008, -1/+4I could go for a girl who is attracted to me because I'm a semi enviroconscious tree *****.
- chandan333, on 03/26/2008, -1/+3Chicks go to Hell. I wanna Race with this.
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2Who gives a ***** what you supposedly knew and when?
- hoffey, on 03/26/2008, -1/+3Who cares?
Death to Detroit as far as I'm concerned. They could have had a vehicle like this out 10 years ago, but they chose to bombard the industry with expensive gas guzzlers. Why? Because they make so much money servicing internal combustion engines that they do not want a simple easy to maintain/service car on the market. Go ahead and watch 'Who killed the electric car' documentary -- it is awesome and sad at the same time.
Apetera and Phoenix Motorcars are changing the game, and it is going to take small companies to uproot the big evil corporations. Also, A123 Systems and EEStor are going to be major players, even if GM invested in EEStor. The problem with the big car companies is the service industry, remember that. Why do you think they want E85 or some other ***** fuel instead of fully electric cars? Because as long as there is combustion engines, there will always be an expensive service industry.
Simple, fully electric cars are the way to go. With rapid recharge technologies emerging, only a matter of time until the titans of the industry fall. As consumers, we have to invest in the smaller companies, otherwise we will end up paying for it. Just saying.. - lacreme, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2electric
- TWiThead, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2Right, "Star Trek Babies" shall be the franchise's salvation.
- charlietuna, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2100 years in the future I an sure cars will have legs.
- KraxSintax, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2J.J. Abrams has one. In fact, that's probably *his*. That's the only reason it's here.
God this film is going to suck arse. - hoffey, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2This thing is awesome, can't wait to buy one..
- Tenoq, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1But wouldn't you be worried she just loves you for your flora?
- theuber1337, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2No... it was cool 20 years before Picard. It was cool until the 10th movie and Enterprise series. It's dead now, hopefully this will revive it.
- pillcounterd, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Thats the same thing I thought. This could be one of the actors' or the directors' car. Until I see this car in the movie, I won't believe.
- Laiden, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1That would be pretty funny.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1You mean one week ago, March 18th - http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36031
Or - http://digg.com/movies/1st_Spy_Shots_of_Starfleet_ ... - d4n3, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Obviously, it will be a vintage collector's car in the movie.
- razorsharpwit, on 03/26/2008, -3/+4What? Star Trek without Picard! LAME!
- seanchristopher, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2The photos show the car in a position where the cameras would not see it... Theres no actual evidence that it's in the movie at all. Buried as possibly inaccurate.
- Laiden, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun, it's electric! The electric sliiiiide!
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I thought the next Star Trek movie takes place in the past.
- WoundedCow, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1mmmmmmmmmmm...Star Trek
- ToiletGhost, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1That looks so unsafe! The crunch zone looks less than the diameter of one of those wheels, three wheels for added adrenaline on potholed turns, and tiny headlights for extra squinty nightime driving.
I'm all for new vehicles that don't use fossil fuels, but we should be able to do much better than that death trap. - inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I don't think they have much to worry about then. Isn't this at least the third breathlessly announced electric car, none of which have surfaced? How many Teslas have you seen in your grocery-store parking lot?
Zero. - tp123, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1The Aptera is set to be released later this year in California only for now. You can find a lot of good information at their unofficial forum - http://apteraforum.com
- EdgeOfEpsilon, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Source?
- EdgeOfEpsilon, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Right… Aptera Motors is giving away one of the … one of these in existence. Seems unlikely.
- mstrebe, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1These things are being built in San Marcos, CA. I saw one testing on the CA-78 freeway. It was definitely bizarre looking. I seriously doubt it's going to make 300mpg--that's impossible if you're accelerating from a stop more than once per charge.
- SilverBlade2k, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1It is, but do you have a spare $98,000 to buy it? Highly doubtful.
- Celeron, on 03/26/2008, -3/+4You sure are going to attract alot of chicks with that car.
- hoffey, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Screw the hybrid, I want fully electric! Seriously, 120 miles per charge how many miles you drive per day? If you need a car for long road trips, then keep your gas guzzler..
- Cyberen, on 03/26/2008, -2/+3It's Electric!
- wstrucke, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2This says nothing about the car and everything about Paramount running Star Trek into the ground.
- EtherGnat, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1God forbid an increased need for fuel efficiency and thus good aerodynamics should affect how cars are designed.
- EtherGnat, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1"a 300 mpg hybrid car should generate quite a bit of interest."
If only such a vehicle existed. The Aptera actually gets around 130mpg. The 300mpg figure includes the power from a fully charged battery to start your trip. - hoffey, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1http://aptera.com/details.php
Big enough to fit two surfboards, two wakeboards, two beach chairs, and two vests? - Tenoq, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1They're kinda expensive. Oh, and I'm in the wrong country too. :P
