- XxpokemasterxX, on 10/07/2008, -1/+14And then gaming was changed forever.
- MatchStick, on 10/07/2008, -1/+12please, no more
- ligyron, on 10/07/2008, -2/+9You're a movie?
- DanBoodro, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6Nothing really new, but still really cool.
- Miyazaki, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4They are using these to make Dr. Manhattan in the Watchmen movie.

- bobdance, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3The same technology is being used for Dr. Manhattan in the Watchmen movie.
- SasquatchBill, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Dugg for the "Feds [heart] L0pht" shirt.
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2If you want to see what an artist/game designer can do with this (and some extra software), check out Julian Oliver's levelHead:

http://selectparks.net/~julian/levelhead/ - StacMasterS, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Jeez, am I the only person who owns Eye of Judgment for PS3? You can go out and buy this tech in any video game store for 50 bucks.
- patm1987, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1As someone who worked on similar technology, I find that end product pretty impressive (we couldn't get out identification system working in real-time, though most of our code was in c#). The secret is the box around the shape which helps locate it in an image (the white border around black hollow square is easy to identify since it's high contrast and the square is easy to extract) and setup the inverse perspective transform (probably what they use to identify the shape or, in my case, a barcode).
My paper isn't very interesting (or good) but I found these two fairly decent if anyone is interested in this kind of technology (protip: creative googling will probably get these papers off of the webpages of one or more of the authors):
Eisaku Ohbuchi, Hiroshi Hanaizumi, Lim Ah Hock. Barcode Readers using the Camera Device in Mobile Phones. Proceedings of the 2004 International Conference on Cyberworlds. Volume , Issue , 18-20 Nov. 2004 Page(s): 260 – 265
Ouaviani, E.; Pavan, A.; Bottazzi, M.; Brunelli, E.; Caselli, F.; Guerrero, M. A common image processing framework for 2D barcode reading. Image Processing and Its Applications, 1999. Seventh International Conference on (Conf. Publ. No. 465). Volume 2, Issue , 1999 Page(s):652 - 655 vol.2
Drawing an image overtop comes free from the inverse perspective transform, as it is just drawing a 3d object over the computed center then applying the perspective transform normally will provide accurate placement of the object. The trick comes from identifying the label (what they called Glyphs) within a reasonable time. (either that or I am really inexperienced with image processing and really comfortable with computer graphics). - DRZion, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Maybe this could be used on a lense to bring around cheap eye-tracking for entertainment purposes.
- Ioncannon, on 10/07/2008, -2/+3Wow, some people should learn when is the appropriate time to use the right meme!
- Doctype, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1That would be really cool. Like the chess game in Star Wars, always wanted that since I was a kid!
- djhindsight, on 10/07/2008, -1/+2I make movie picture film for happy fun times.
- Crath, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Now switch them. Make the computer generate the ball and move the game board by hand, watch the screen to see where the ball is.
on a serious note, very awesome, but im not sure how practical besides gaming. - Tenoq, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1You mean like MonkeyBall on an iPhone? :p
- crownedgriffin, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Sweet. How long until this translates into giant fighting robots?
- BeSublime, on 10/07/2008, -1/+2Already been around the block?

- FreakinRepublic, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1who cares? I'm buying a flamin go-cart now
- XZanatos, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Ah fockin' hell. Did anyone else notice the video 'responses' on the youtube page? Damned asses figured out another way to advertise crap we don't care about. In case anyone is wondering what I am talking about: over half of the responses aren't related in any way, they just 'responded' to a popular video in order to drive traffic to themselves.
In a completely related matter. This tech would totally reinvent tabletop RPG battles. Just imaging Warhammer 40k with moving, interacting fully 3D sprites. You would need glasses of course but I would pay for that! - VelvetoneFusion, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1RIP Gizmondo.
- Chubaccatron, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Gees, what'll these guys come up with next, a glove you can play video games with? This is INSANE!
- PabloIV, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Prototype This! is gonna be the new Mythbusters; if this is from S1E1 I expect great things.
- joy2k9, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1wow, i've never seen anything like this...!
- Jareth86, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Seen it action before. Amazing stuff:

- SlingTrade, on 10/24/2008, -0/+0I am sure the military will have some practical uses for this type of science. Very, very cool stuff. That technology can only grow and expand...the future will be very interesting.
- djhindsight, on 10/07/2008, -3/+2we already use this... fyi :)
- Zervaman, on 10/07/2008, -4/+3I just came.
- scy1192, on 10/07/2008, -2/+1Real life Pokemon Simulator?
- denimhead, on 10/07/2008, -1/+0digg me up
- Davers, on 10/07/2008, -2/+1This is just like the software that comes with a lot of Microsoft and Logitech webcams, only LESS advanced. The webcams can identify and track parts of faces, in order to change the appearance, add hats, masks, etc.
- beamster, on 10/05/2008, -10/+9Neato!
- nellyspageli, on 10/07/2008, -2/+1don't breathe this!

hi Dildog - DredPir8Robrts, on 10/07/2008, -5/+0The thought of using this with that Wii headtracker setup kinda makes me dizzy
- aforsberg, on 10/07/2008, -8/+2Hot damn! Maybe Crytek can use this instead of their current eyeliner and camera method to achieve an npc posing engine as powerful as that of valve
- MrJohnSmith, on 10/07/2008, -7/+1That is the question.
