- lindsay_1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It shows again that lots of you who comment are immature kids, who have the time to visit sites like this that few heard of, because you don't have a fulltime job or a family to take care of or not? I’m sorry guys, but check the comments and the use of words of some people, pretty pathetic and childish sometimes if you ask me.
Anyway, about the tutorial: the person who posted this on digg.com has made a mistake and given the tutorial the wrong title. It's not about how to make people look pretty, it's about how to beauty a face. ‘Pretty’ or ‘prettier’ are two different words. With that in mind I look at the final image and I do see a girl that does look prettier. It’s also quite obvious that the author didn’t want to go over the top with the corrections and didn’t want to make her look fake which happens too often.
I don’t understand some of you complainers; this one of the most complete, detailed and nicest tutorials I’ve seen in quite a while and all for free and the only thing you can do is bitch or trying to become popular with childish comments. If I were the author I would say the famous words FO and close the site. See, that’s the problem today; people want everything for free, but once they get it for free they have to complain about every stupid thing without a good reason. This is just a great tutorial, maybe not perfect, but 100% sure with the sincere intention to help people and those who help people should get more respect than the immature comments I’ve read right now coming from some spoiled brats. Sorry, but I just feel the need to say that (with the aftermath of the hurricane in mind). - onelinestudio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6yeah... remember she is someones daughter, mother, or sister... besides doesn't she kinda remind you of.... http://img359.imageshack.us/my.php?image=kr5is.jpg
- Julian_Photo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i do this as a job , lots of good advice on this, pretty much exactly how i do it

Most impressive is not important, it’s not a challenge which tutorial is best. But an impressive tutorial? Yes, it is.The main of any tutorial should be to teach something in way that is easy to understand by most people. Just by looking at the tutorial and how well it's documented (I wouldn't be surprised if even newbies wouldn't have a hard time with it) make this tutorial (and the others I saw) impressive, that is, from an educational point of view. The section about cropping is actually a good example that the guy (or girl?) wants to show more than just how to use the crop tool.
Sure, you can show the most beautiful image at the end of your tutorial, but what's the purpose of it if the steps leading to it are not as well documented as in this tutorial. See, that’s the problem with most tutorials; a great result but lousy written instructions
Farry said: > For a full on process, you need distortion
I don’t agree. Distortion leads to artificial makeovers, exactly the ones you see at Worth1000. The steps that this author discusses are one of the most important steps and not how you can ‘distort’ Barbra Streisand’s nose, because then you’re not getting the point.
Farry said: >For example, removing all traces of wrinkles and fine lines is not a good idea.
The point of the tutorial (and unlike you I’ve read the complete text, all 7 pages) is to show what’s possible and not whether you should remove all or few wrinkles for example.
You make conclusions based on a quick view, when it’s very clear what the intentions of the author are when you read what he/she writes at the end, the part that starts with “I want to end this tutorial with a few comments:. - farry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not the most impressive image processing tutorial.
Although there are tons of tutorials out there, I'll just throw out a page of some ok tutorials:
http://www.worth1000.com/tutorial.asp
For a full on process, you need distortion (how can you miss it!) =D
The art is to correctly use a combination of techniques. For example, removing all traces of wrinkles and fine lines is not a good idea. - andr3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i totally agree with lindsay_1972. My first reaction was to go to the last page and see the change. At first i didn't see any, but then i actually READ the page and mouse-overed it. Pretty cool improvement.
It's not all about blurring and smuding the skin.
i dugg it, but the title should be changed to "..prettier". - eMpi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bad digg. The photo is definetely not finished - he need to keep on working it..:)
- knut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd Hit it!
/er, wait... wrong site - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Guys, she's not remotely ugly.
Evidence #1: check out celebrity paparazzi shots... notice how most models pre-photoshop, just hanging out on the beach, don't look stunningly perfect. http://www.celebrity-thumbs.com/ (some parts might be NSFW)
Evidence #2: Digg has already covered great examples of how models are almost always photoshopped, and don't look emaculately perfect in actual real life. In case you missed them: http://glennferon.com/portfolio1/ and http://homepage.mac.com/gapodaca/digital/digital.html
Having your picture photoshopped isn't bad. In fact, it's probably a good indication if someone is willing to spend so much time making such tiny tweaks to your picture, because people don't tweak turds. - Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"You cant polish a turd"
It's the 21st Century, of course you can!
http://www.squeem.com/Pics/turd-polish2.gif - onelinestudio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree too.. I would change it if I could
- onelinestudio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1that was my first thought too..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd agree with digital ice... I'd do her too.
Subtle enchancements in photoshop are a great way to enhance the way a person looks. It beats making them look like a clown as previous photoshop diggs have done. - cherylsurfs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0photoshop rocks! another great find! thank you!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now if only we could make this happen in real life.. :)
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm wondering if they just didn't do it backwards?
- TeChGuRL19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0god you guys are so shallow. She isn't that bad. I shudder to think what you'd say about a really nasty looking chick. The final pic looks pretty good!
- ernesthoffmann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice digg
- 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol @ Seaton- nice image there...
As for the retouching - I don't think there was that much of a difference...but I guess getting rid of minor flaws is better than those plastic images from that guy that does *complete* digital overhauls. - kungfustickman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So mean...what happens if that's Kevin's relative or something. (that would be akward)
- orb_nsc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If she would have just tweezered her eyebrows and gotten a better night's sleep she would have looked like the "After" photo anyway.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@widmaniac: Oh, *****, didn't notice that. I guess the final image is a bit of an improvement.
- Widmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You have to mouse over the very last image to see the final image; otherwise your just seeing the original image. The changes are noticeable but I think she looks really good before hand so I see no reason to change anything in the first place (except to demonstrate a few Photoshop techniques which as it turns out is the intentions of the author anyway).
- onelinestudio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0somewhere there is a very nice young woman probably crying herself a river tonight because of all of your comments...... (i wonder if i could find her on google earth? brb)
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If she's crying it's because waves of geeks are showing up at her door saying "I can photoshop you in my mind baby, be mine!"
- Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1New Photoshop plugin:
"Virtual Tweezers" by Revlon - xjeffx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good tutorial. The best part is he cut off her ear! That's so Van Gogh.
- mercatroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ lindsay_1972...Well said.
- Grypht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Guess I'll be updating my online personal pic shortly...
- kevd18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no digg :(
- kungfustickman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow that is creepy... Way to go!
- t.toe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I once heard it said that in the near future, every photo you see will be retouched in some way or another. with tools such as Photoshop being readily available to anyone, it's only a matter of time until every picture has been digitally "enhanced".
me? I'm torn about this subject, because, while I hate the fact that the final image in the tutorial is "fake", I still find myself more attracted to the woman in the "fake" image. - Bluejaye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0She looks like a very nice *real* woman to me. But I have a feeling some of the posters here haven't ever actually kissed a girl, so...
Haven't read the entire article, but it seems like a useful tutorial. I'm particularily interested to find out how to remove the shadows/bags under the eyes. - Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For all those people who say she's ugly, please post a pic of yourself so we can get a better idea of who's talking. :)
- prowling-tiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lindsay_1972 is so true... I think this is one of the best free tutorial for this kind of photoshop technique.
- iPood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In my case, I need to learn how to remove my second chin of fat if I want to look better in pictures, anyone know how to do that?
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed with interiot..
I'd be surpised if you see someone in a magazine that hasn't been photoshoped..
Theres loads of tutorials indentical to this, but if someones not seen them, then this is usefull, for them
- Ben - ben.0081, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0poor girl
- newave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i like the subtile approach better than the super insane changes you see on some other tutorials...
At least the girl still looks moslty like herself in the end... - jay42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oooooh, mouse over. Crazy if you flick your cursor on and off quickly
- pgm_01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another trick is to slightly enlarge the eyes. The pic is not up to celeb standards yet, the picture would be smoothed (specifically the skin) also you can apply a false glow. Many of the retouch techniques were the same that portrait painters have used for hundreds of years.

I write:
The obvious answer, of course, is to eat healthy food and in moderation and get plenty of excercise.
Or you could just take a photoshop class... Might be easier. - SHuisman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0""" How do you recruit someone to model for a pic like this? "I need to phot ograph someone fugly, and I immediately thought of you. """
I AM laughing out loud - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@KelteN: Yeah, the final picture looks pretty much the same as the first. The author didn't even get rid of her yellow teeth.
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0daym that mouse over is freakin scary.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yikes, nobody on the internet is safe.
- Afaubert, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Wow. Man you cannot make someone like that look pretty, unless you change that face with someone like Jessica Alba. You can't posibly think that you could "beautify" somone with that fugly face.
- Scorch6969, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0^^yeah i'll look with you to find that girl. i'd bang before, after, and even if i hadn't seen her in this photo LoL. google won't help us though...maybe if we contact the rendering artist?
- KelteN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0It didn't help that girl much.
- digital_ice, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0i'll bang her, she doen't look that bad
