- itsmrdumass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+68Ha! I can't wait to see how he makes the big white info bubble.
- saladtossser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38he should leave it flat on the ground when they update!
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33can you see it from google maps though
- awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Myself, I often think about Google's "red Makierungsnadeln of the georeferenzierten".
- frant1c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Crazy, pointless, and I love it.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Ive seen worst. Some people smash expensive gaming consoles just for the sake of art.
- lazlonger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Yeah and it took you 6 hours and 27 minutes to FINALLY tell us, you arrogant snot.
Awesome concept. The kind of thing you'd come up with at the bar and say, "yeah we should really do that" and never do it.... - Gawkboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19If he really wanted to be accurate he should place it half a block away from the address
- SgtBeavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Absolutely pointless....
but TOTALLY KICK ASS - sniper6121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Here is the video of him making it. I wonder what his neighbors thought? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvHeNC5VJw8
- lazlonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16fulfillment of a concept, which is nearly always reason enough when it comes to art.
- vh1`, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18"art"
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13How about...

Up?!?!?! - vemerge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I was hoping he'd put it on a rough or something, and just leave it there so that it would show up on Google Maps eventually.... whenever they update their maps anyway.
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I know right! I would have totally put that thing in the middle of the road...
Come on man, you know better than that. http://www.datenform.de/map_pizza2_1000.jpg - Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Oh god, DON'T GIVE THE SPAMMERS IDEAS. GOOGLE EARTH/MAPS SPAM. FAKE INFO BUBBLES EVERYWHERE
- Pyrogen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10We care, why?
- MrStabby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9...as the actual marker was in the middle of the street.
I propose that Google actually MOVES their marker to where his is located.
With all that said...
WHY!?!?!? - mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Online fame?
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Reminds me of that kite shaped like a huge cursor arrow.
- wintermute0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It would be funny, too, if the satellite passed over while his pin was laid out and eventually the photo was updated into gEarth/gMaps.
- Pests, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It would be funny to see Google change (or make, if they do not have them) their campus maps (the ones posted on walls) to use a similar system, and then actually have an the letter and that thing posted at the location.
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Translated text, by Google Translate:
The project “map” brings up for discussion the red Makierungsnadeln of the georeferenzierten search machine Google map. Around search results in alphabetical sequence to makieren Google uses small graphic Icons, red marking needles its form from the similar world was derived. On the Web interface of Google maps fulfill it fully automate their service. After each local retrieval query the 10 markers (A-J) position themselves seconds again within 10tel on that corresponding map cutout. They and also the speech blisters with detailed information of the marked place shade, belonging to it, throw to interesting way on the map and/or the satellite photograph. Independently of the current zoom shot factor the red marking needles always remain the same for the map as graphic object in their pixel size on the screen. If one measures its size however in relation to the explained environment shrinks the markers if one them approaches. This effect corresponds accurately to the phenomenon of the Scheinriesens Mr. Turtur from the novel „Jim button and Lukas of the Lokomotivführer “from Michel end. The reproduction of one of these red marking needles in reality corresponds to the counterpart on the map in the Web interface in the largest zoom shot factor in its size. Owing to at Holger and Michael for the assistance. - unixer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Here is the English Version
http://www.datenform.de/mapeng.html - crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was expecting a view of it from Google Maps. :(
- gonzo1773, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The only bummer is that it takes so long before the satellites go over an area again. If he leaves it up for a year then maybe it will show up on the satellite map.
But then, would the google marker be needed then? - biuku, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It would be cool after the next flyover ... which angle to aim it though?
- GeekZap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow now everyone in the world knows where that guy lives. Nice!
- resplence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I read dillonish's remark as a joke, but what do I know.
- diversionmary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The pizza joint is called 'Pizza' ?
- RUFiO006, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That only appears if you search for pizza. As in, it's a superimposed Google marker and not a fabricated 'real life' one. This one will probably never show up on Google Maps - i doubt it'll be up for long enough.
- nickw252, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This isnt supposed to be in a satelite picture, it is just showing the relative size. If you only search the address, it is not there, if you search for pizza near that address, it shows the balloon superimposed on the map image.
- fishywoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&q=pizza&near=&sll=52.511766,13.448803&sspn=0.000642,0.001824&ie=UTF8&z=19&ll=52.512106,13.448803&spn=0.000642,0.001824&t=k&om=1&iwloc=A
Nope. Still there. - rorrison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@vemerge
Wouldn't it show up better on a smooth? - kazisdaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool but too bard google maps take forever to update and change.
The satelite images of my university haven't been updated in like 3 years. - krazymelvin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=31.426353,59.765625&ie=UTF8&z=19&ll=52.511791,13.448591&spn=0.000736,0.002704&t=k&om=1
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't get it - the marker looks totally digital on the satellite photo on Google Maps. If it were the real-life marker, the proportions wouldn't be perfect and the colour wouldn't be so strong.
- igyigyigy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like how many 'modern' German words are so similar to English words:
Makierungsnadeln - Marker...thingy...
georeferenzierten - Geo Reference.... thingy..
It makes me feel less ignorant when I can look at a sentence in a language I don't know and at least grasp the basics of what it's about. - m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2it'd takes years maybe, unless Navteq decides otherwise :P
- RatTrap, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Thats kick ass.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Haha, that's great. We need more Google map things like this.
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You lose, it's only got 2 r's in the middle of "mirror".
And for those of you who are "referrer-impaired", as I like to call it :D
http://duggmirror.com/design/Photos_Man_Creates_a_Giant_Google_Maps_Marker/ - deedas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Not very original but if you're gonna put all that work into something, you deserve someone to digg your project. Dugg.
- dillonish, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4It doesn't appear that he put it in the same place as the actual marker.
- nroose, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Not big enough to look good if the sat imaged it. Also it is upright, not flat.
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Haha, that's awesome.
- datcrazydj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Wait...why is it facing up? Shouldn't it be laying on the floor so Google will see it in it's entirety...not its shadow?
- jhaitas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1what a jackass
- DannySpace, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Some guy in my town did this last year! I guess he missed his window....
- RUFiO006, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1According to Google Maps, it's not there anymore; or never was. Surely Google update their satellite photos every year or so, so surely these photos are doctored?
