Enjoy.
. - donwilson2, on 10/11/2007, -25/+68Just give us the full size JPEG.
No need for the annoyingly hard to use flash app. - Shando, on 10/11/2007, -4/+89A gigapixel would be 1024 megapixels, just sayin'
- 0o0Moylan0o0, on 10/11/2007, -5/+21Think Pink!
- kawahee, on 10/11/2007, -20/+11@donwilson2
How is it hard to use? There's a plus button to zoom in, a minus button to zoom out, a zoom reset and you drag to move around in addition to the four arrows. The flash app partitioning the image is much better than having a 1 gigapixel JPEG in your computers memory.
He'd need a CDN to distribute the image to everybody on digg, much smarter to use an image partitioning algorithm and efficiently dish it out via an interactive front end. - fatas, on 10/11/2007, -11/+6Is it possible to get the full image?
- Shenanigans, on 10/11/2007, -17/+2Edit: Lame joke, bury this
- CaptMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -3/+48If you click to see the technical details, it says the final image size is 7gb. I'm guessing that's why he's using the flash app instead of loading the image into your browser.
- planckstudios, on 10/11/2007, -13/+35@Donwilson2
He's a professional - he's not going to give you his work. He'll sell it to you. You sir, are insulting photographer's skills when you ask for free *****. - finjetsu, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1@ Shando, well technically thats wrong, if your talking about a computer classifing it as a Giga Pixel then yeah your right, but in our terms Giga is 10^9 so 1000MP would be Giga Pixel which is right in this case
- l33tsauce, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1WoW the Shedd Aquarium is really beautiful at night. I live in Chicago for a year and Chicago is an awesome city at night.
- Light11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11the bottom of the E in the CHASE building sign is out..

!!! 13 GIGAPIXELS OF HARLEM !!!
http://www.harlem-13-gigapixels.com/
first thing i did was to start looking in windows. i found a chick getting dressed, someone sunbathing on their balcony, and some guy using a computer. way more fun. - egscott2004, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Anyone else see the ghost people and ghost cars in the Harlem picture?
- sukosaki, on 10/11/2007, -16/+10neat picture and pretty cool viewer controls
- nfxmedia, on 10/11/2007, -9/+14If you're interested, he used Zoomify.
http://www.zoomify.com/ - alman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Zoomify is now included free with Photoshop CS3
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4For some reason, Zoomify in CS3 is botched. Many users can use it on some images, but not others. I've got a 200 megapixel image, saved as a .PSD, and it won't let me use Zoomify...but other smaller images work fine.
- nfxmedia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@GawtMilk
I've used the enterprise version of Zoomify for a couple of projects and the converter loves JPG and BMP files. PSDs with layers or other features won't convert.
@alman
That version bundled with PS CS3 is a stripped down version.
- nfxmedia, on 10/11/2007, -9/+14If you're interested, he used Zoomify.
- kakkaraja, on 10/11/2007, -9/+250OK now 2000 nerds will spend the rest of the night trying to find a naked chick in the photo :P
- Insomniac33, on 10/11/2007, -14/+112That's not true, most of us will probably look for 2-3 hours then fall asleep to Battlestar Gallactica DVDs. Buried for inaccuracy.
- oxdeltaxo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+137It's like where's waldo for geeks.
- Flashman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+81Mom?
- masgrada, on 10/11/2007, -7/+43There's not any; I already looked.
- EbilPhish, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1Unfortunately the resolutions not that good, you would just get skin coloured blurs :(
I'll wait for 10gigapixles and one of those image search programs to find the porn for me.
Also one of the previous ones did have a nude beach in the shot :) - mattprice, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@EbilPhish (#7009815)
Or just check out http://www.harlem-13-gigapixels.com/ sans the porn. Still an awesome photo though.
- danielbachhuber, on 10/11/2007, -9/+1sweet jesus
- DarthMalcontent, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25Zoom in on the Shedd Oceanarium (the low, glass building on the lake shore on the far left). My vacation pictures aren't much clearer and I was inside the building. I could have saved a few hundred dollars and stayed at home.
- Mike89, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Thanks, I was just about to post asking what that was. Looks cool!
- winnopeg, on 10/11/2007, -25/+4When I zoom in all I get is giant pixels...
- chaosdude78, on 10/11/2007, -2/+75Obviously, your tubes have been clogged, give it a while for the pixles to squeeze through all that internet junk,
- Sil369, on 10/11/2007, -18/+2That was LOL chaos :)
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -15/+2That was laugh out loud Chaos ;)
What? Go learned some grammar.
- silverchrysalis, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1if you look really close, you can see someone getting mugged in the park
- wasteman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0o rly.

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/5017/chicagofd8.jpg :)- maehem, on 10/11/2007, -15/+3Why digg him down? The smiley after the link is a tip-off. Too funny.
- KMye, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I love the concept. But I think his Machu Picchu one is the only one that really begins to capitalize on the concept. The two cityscapes, to me, seem kind of weak subjects for this, at least from the perspective he chose to take. I think it would also make sense to stop the zoom one or two levels above what he does, as the last two levels are essentially pointless. But I'm just nitpicking; the concept's great, and his other photography (especially the non-HDR) is excellent.
- yomamaisfat, on 10/11/2007, -7/+28I found Waldo.
- MacBandit, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2I found your mom!!
- Shade00a00, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Similar to the gigapxl project : http://gigapxl.org/gallery-SanDiegoNight.htm
- PaulDrake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0San Diego look as impressive as Evanston.
- nreisan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+53i think he needs less megapixals and more megabits of bandwidth on his server
- OllyHagen, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Its not that clear
- AudioDan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Who's got a mirror?

- SarahC, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0Half gigapixel image =)
http://rdc.untamed.co.uk/zoomify/index.htm - zmigliozzi, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12Since when did a Gig equal 1000Meg instead of 1024?
- Spr0k3t, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2Careful, that's Microsoft Patent speak. You could get sued for infringing on a patented thought.
- Kookami, on 10/11/2007, -5/+131024? That would be a gibibyte, good sir.
- Kitsune818, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Base 10 or Base 8?
- kemiller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1
Since the official SI prefixes were reclaimed. Giga- is supposed to refer to one billion of something. They invented new prefixes to refer to 2^10 (kibi = kilobinary), 2^20 (mebi = megabinary), 2^30 (gibi = gigabinary), etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibibyte
Not that I've ever actually heard anyone use these. But they are useful when you need to be precise. (This isn't one of those times.)
Also, when refering to pixels, mega- has pretty much always meant one million, not 2^20, and is generally an approximate figure anyway.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel#Megapixel
- whattimeisit, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1@oxdeltaxo
Now that is statement contradicts itself. - impkuo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1@rfriaz
How'd you save the actual image? - RegalGSX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17If you zoom towards Wrigley you can see Zambrano slapping Barrett.
- CyberAlan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@regalgsx (#7007201)
And a blue flag with a white "L".
- CyberAlan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@regalgsx (#7007201)
- nemobushido, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14In the 2nd tallest building, zoom about 3/5 height of the building: there is a couple doing it against the glass, doggy style.
- swavalier711, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9lies.
*goes to check* - trshtehdsh, on 10/11/2007, -5/+0screenshot?
- DiggMasterJ, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2That "building" has a name you know.
- Khamel83, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3from the perspective of this picture, the second tallest building is the aon center. i doubt people are having sex at night in an office building. if its actually the hancock building, then anythings game.
- zmigliozzi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2In perspective, but the John Hancock I think is really the 2nd tallest there, all i know is that's where Chris Farley died :(
- swavalier711, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9lies.
- trshtehdsh, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0pretty damn cool. i dont have the patience to shoot 194 pictures let alone sit there and put 'em back together again.
... now i gots the hankerings for some deep dish pizza and some Berghoff's root beer. too bad berghoffs is closed :( - veeshy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3finally, a google street view competitor
- odganarb, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1yeah, i was gonna say, how is this less of an invasion of privacy than what that is?
- darkism, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'm thinking I need a giant-sized print of this taking up my entire wall. Then it will be like the floor-to-ceiling windows I don't have.
- DiggMasterJ, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7On a houseboat you don't have in the middle of lake Michigan.
- docnetau, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I'm in the progress of talking to a company regarding doing large-scale prints of these photos - starting with the Chicago shot. If you're interested, drop me an email at shp@doc.net.au and I'll let you know when they are available.

- allywilson, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1People having sex in Sears tower? nope.
my work here is done. - nesibus, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2This is pointless, if the picture is going to be blurry in most spots when viewing max size, there is no point in even taking it this big cause its useless.
- Crazysticks, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3Naked Chick Found!!!
1. Find the bright spotlight in the middle near the water.
2. Scroll up to the top of the building directly above it.
3. The top row is long rectangular windows.
4. The window you are looking for is in the first row of square windows from the top.
5. It's closer to the left side of the building.- nesibus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1If you can spot a naked chick in a blurry window image with a small scale even at full size....you're more desperate than most.
- Burn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Stuffed up link.
- Crazysticks, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1*The tallest building directly above the brightest light on the waterfront.
- crossmr, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I think I see what you're looking at and that is a stretch to be able to say its a naked woman.
it could be a curtain moving.
well now I know you're full of it. The tallest building the first row (and first 4 rows) of square windows are completely dark. - Crazysticks, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1@crossmr - The building to the left of that one.
*The window below the one with a redish glow. - crossmr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Yeah, like I said that is a stretch to call that a naked woman.
There is nothing on that blob that would even indicate if its male or female. - leGRIZZLY, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0omg screenie plz
