- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20How on Earth did you come up with such a unique and innovative idea?
- Barney7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Nice metaphor! How many of us have gone round and round the same circle chasing that elusive pot of gold?
- phlogiston99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Clearly, you should sue!
- edilclyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11video of a full circle rainbow

- GuidoRosso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Cool how the shadow of the Tower is dead center of the rainbow
- lukestylewalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11love it!

- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I guess with no end to the rainbow there's no pot of gold.
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Boooooring! Lemme know when you have a mobius strip rainbow.
(Web Sarcasm Proofing: Just kidding, really cool pic. Never saw one of those before.) - qber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's as common as the normal rainbows we see here and there. They're all circles, but you have to be very high up to see the full circle.
- soupnrc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Quote from Wikipedia: "The rainbow effect can be observed whenever there are water drops in the air and sunlight shining from behind the observer at a low altitude or angle". The view from the window is either east or west, I'm assuming we are looking towards the east cause it is probably evening. With that said, since the "sunlight shining from behind the observer" the towers shadow should line up directly in the center of the rainbow. The more you know...
You can have that one for free. - JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Just in case you were wondering, all circular rainbows are actively managed by Samuel, the stingy, but humorous leprechaun.
- Habemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Anyone can see this using a water hose set to "mist" and a sunny day. Stand with the sun to your back and squirt the mist away from you. You should see the circular rainbow around your shadow.
- eleven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Absolutely - I was surprised by complete rainbow when I was flying in a small float plane. I had never seen one before that. The best part was that it "followed" the plane for about 5 mins.
- otatop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dude, I bet gold pot's expensive as hell.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is how all rainbows are, you just dont see all of them.
- dreamlayers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A rainbow is a circle centred opposite of the light source. Generally the light source is the sun, and that means it's generally above you in the sky. This means that the centre of the circle is below eye level. The rainbow you see is generally the part of the circle that's above ground. The part that's below ground isn't seen because if you look in that direction you just look at the ground without many raindrops in the way. In this case the picture was taken from a tower. The ground was far enough away that there were plenty of raindrops in that direction as well, and so the entire rainbow was visible.
- BananaGrabber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4must be a new care bear attack.
- PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's a great shot. If you are up high, there's moisture in the air and the sun's shining, from where you are you'll see a full circle rainbow. When I went to Colombia at University, we could see these from the hills early in the morning looking down into rainforest valleys.
Doesn't mean it's not a thing of beauty and wonderment. It's just not a rare phenomenon. - AnteChronos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"It doesn't make any sense."
Spoken like someone who has no idea how rainbows actually work. - Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"reddit.com: Where you can view the lay-out from 5 years ago, today"
- gavintlgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Can someone tell me how you add those notes on the photo? I can't figure out how...
- plugues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3HOW COME NO UNICORNS IN THE PICTURE?
me so disappointed - Falconwing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@berwiki: yes, double rainbows exist. I was just taken away the first time I saw one - it's beautiful, just beautiful. Did you notice that the outer, fainter one has the colors backwards compared to the primary one?
Google has plenty of pictures. - blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Ah...metaphor...come on, its night time..and I didn't get to sleep in today. You trying to make my head hurt? I was lucky to get past "Oohh, pretty colors!"
- bcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Whoa! That's awesome!
- xsecretfiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So where does it start? and where does it end?
damn you gold pot - gamesector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2***** the guy that left the "improve your photography" tag. ***** him right down to the ground.
- gavintlgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Found it out: You can do it to your friends' photos too.
- Pebcak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...does this mean that there's no pot of gold?
- Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Supposedly airplane pilots see these all the time. Well really everyone sees them all the time but it's usually only half or less.
- AnteChronos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Notice how the "rainbow" is actually a full circle."
All rainbows are full circles, as long as there are water droplets within ~41° of the antisolar point in all directions. Please educate yourself as to how rainbows work. - buddydvd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I once saw 7 circular rainbow at the same time on top of Mt. Wilson. Too bad I didn't have my camera with me. It was an awesome sight.
- GrantTheGr8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gold pot, maybe?
- jgrundy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Correct, the photo is facing east.
Love the shot! - nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can do it at home with a garden hose on a sunny day. Stand on something high, spray a fine mist all around the direction of where the shadow of your head is being cast by the sun, and behold.
- nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Notice how the "rainbow" is actually a full circle."
Notice how the title of this story says "Full Circle Rainbow". - dreamlayers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Here's a double rainbow. It's also viewed from a high place though it is less of a full circle:
http://epod.usra.edu/archive/images/raincircle.jpg - intense321, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's definitely cool, but very common...
I see about 50 of these a year since I live on top of a mountain. :) - bossmanthe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's what I was gonna say! :)
- dreamlayers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can find the original-sized version by any of these methods.
a) Viewing the source, searching for "jpg?v" and transforming that link by removing the "?" and what comes after it and adding "_o" before the ".jpg" (eg. change http://farm1.static.flickr.com/92/251818480_5671c51d01.jpg?v=1170671693 to http://farm1.static.flickr.com/92/251818480_5671c51d01_o.jpg )
b) Opening the AdBlock Plus blockable items list, searching for "jpg?v" there, obtaining that URL and transforming it like in "a" above.
c) Going to a different picture (eg. next or previous in photostream), finding the URL of the thumbnail of the picture you want (eg. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/92/251818480_5671c51d01_s.jpg ) and then transforming that URL by changing the "_s" before the ".jpg" to "_o". - nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and 'to HAVE been there'.
- dimension, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All rainbows are circular. The perspective in which you see it from is what matters if you see it or not.
If you use a hose to make a rainbow, you can clearly follow the rainbow all the way around.
/science junkie - richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You've been a member under a year - people were using that way before you got here.
- sethworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Flickr... not Flicker
The size is controlled by the one posting the picture, not Flickr. Flickr just makes the lower sizes for you based on the size of picture you upload. - nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know I've seen pics of full circle rainbows high in the sky - the situation being where sun reflects off a still lake, so it is as if the sun were shining up from below the horizon.
