- blaksaga, on 10/12/2007, -10/+54There's still too much crap on the page.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45FOOL. It's all about the AJAX, the site itself is irrelevant.
If someone put up the goatse shi with AJAX that would get front paged. - valona, on 10/12/2007, -8/+36I'm going to get dugg down for saying this, because it's Yahoo and not Google, but I think it looks really really good. The option to switch between narrow and wide view is a nice touch, and the mail preview is just sweet. It's much cleaner looking than the old page. I wish they would change their logo, or smarten it up a small bit, it screams 1995.
- Darkhacker, on 10/12/2007, -16/+35I could care less if it is using the latest in buzzwords. I'm digging it because the interface is 1000x better than the old one. Much cleaner, easier on the eyes, and easy to navigate. This my friends is how you compete with Google. I would definately consider switching to Yahoo as my main portal.
- sk545, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19yep, just too many links.
- JonnyJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16indeed its alot more clustered than google is, and for that reason google still fits the needs that I'm looking for, but it certainly is pretty and I give the web designers much credit for their creation
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Now they just need to work on pages that still look like this:
http://tv.yahoo.com/ - maverick2001, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Just an additionnal info: this new homepage was already launched 2 weeks ago in France and UK.
Nice to see some AJAX for the mass ;) - dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Why do we have a link that is about yahoo.com that goes to another website? This is ridiculous. Link to real f'ing page.
- burnstyle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14i think ill stick with googles personal home page..... its so much cleaner
- Gigadafud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7i think i see a few spots where they could put a few more links, someone should let them know about the available space.
- BritishGolgo13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hasn't this been out for a while now? Or was it in beta up until now or something? At any rate, I agree with valona, especially about the logo. The new layout is very sleek and appealing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Huh? I've been looking at that homepage for over a month. I didn't realize that it was not 'live'.
- Niz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well Yahoo does have a separate search page which you can keep as your homepage, it pretty much looks like Google on this page. you can cross off the mail and news if you want.
http://search.yahoo.com/ - HumbleDialog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So... I can pretty much ignore the right-hand 40% of the screen, right? Because not only is this where all the obtrusive ads are, it's also where the web search button is.
- calebegg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Linking to yahoo.com would have been pointless because when the post was made the page was not live. This is also not about the page itself, which has been at yahoo.com/preview for a while now. The purpose of this digg article is to announce that the yahoo.com page redesign will come out today, which is why it links to the blog.
- burnstyle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6for those that dont know... the google page is here
http://www.google.com/ig - silverbax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Don't really care for the new page. The old one was cluttered, now the new one is even more cluttered.
- cadrass, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I agree with Darkhacker... This is a massive improvement over the old site. Way to go Yahoo!
- MehYam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Search quality aside, the Yahoo/Google comparisons are a little apple v. orange. Google has that portal page that's more like Y!, and Y!'s got a slimmed down Google-kin here: http://search.yahoo.com/
- vordhosbn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5ugh...the source code for the new site is absolutely atrocious...the stylesheet goes on for miles and miles.
i guess it doesn't matter though, yahoo's front page and even google's front page are made obsolete for me by firefox's little google search box in the toolbar...i only care about how the results page looks. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree completely. A good page you can navigate in seconds, but Yahoo is filled with random, unrelated info strewn all over the page, along with a minefield of ads thrown in between. Who needs this **** really?
What are you getting out of that page? Email, news? Some sort of useful info? There are much better and more customizable ways to get all those without going through a barrage of spam.
Google's approach is much better, they really cut the spam to a minimum. - mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5What the hell is with the top banners? Disappearing and moving the entire page each time isn't very appealing.
- dance2die, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Looks quite awesome.
Gotta love the eye candies... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hehe the homepage alone is 95kb without any of the images or animations...so they are not going for dial up users here? I thought they would still be a large percentage of the market.
- supafuzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would be more impressed, if my.yahoo.com had the same new look.
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Google really needs to hire some web designers now.
- Nyghtewynd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I like it. Much better than the old one. Good stuff.
- GregoryHarbin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9YUCK. I played around with the new Yahoo for a few minutes, and I still hate it. I hate to sound like a Google fanboy, but I have my personalized page all set up, I have no desire to use Yahoo mail or messanger, this new page loads really slowly, isn't as interactive as Google IG...why would I use it?
- Niomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Millions of people may have their first interaction with AJAX today?? This is said like it's a damn religious expirience. It's just javascript, get over yourselves. >_>
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a long time ago :-)
- solvable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Much more sleek. I like it way more.
However, I like Google way way more. - critic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doesn't matter, it still won't run unless you have the DRMd WMP10 and a funky ActiveX control. Achieve content liscenses must be set to aquire automatically.
Free content with a very steep price. Don't kill your BT cliient just yet. - Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The old layout is still available at this link:
http://www.yahoo.com/?p=1153158578 - rhamej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How can you be stuck using a web page? Is someone from yahoo standing behind you holding a gun to your head? Maybe that is why yahoo is #1.
- sremick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Looks pretty. Never really used the Yahoo home page much anyway so hard to tell if the usability is better or not. One thing I noticed was that the redesign of their home page is nice and snappy, unlike the redesign of their mail service. The new Yahoo mail runs like molasses, even worse if you're not running Windows. I have dived into the code a bit in order to work up new Adblock filters for it... I must say, it's a bloated mess.
- rages4calm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Was never to big of a fan of yahoo, but its good to see they put very good use to ajax and using it properly. The new site somewhat reminds me of a cross between msn style, with google's ajax, and myspace as far as the 360 goes. Wonder if this new approach will attract more people.
- daveboudreau, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm getting kinda tired of that generic "web 2.0" look that all the websites are coming out with now.
Yahoo is Yahoo. All the fundamentals are still there, its still yahoo, just in a shiny web 2.0 box. yippee? - jiggadigga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This site has been up for quite a while, but I lik the cleaner look and the ease of use. The AJAX is great and I love not having to visit a seperate page to check my email.
- esourcemag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now all they need to do is unify the look throughout the site. They have the new front page and the old pages all mixed up with each other. How can you go from the brand new front page to a story page that look like the old site?
- officerdoofy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So it's made for me? What if I don't want all of that stuff on one page? I'm not seeing a way to get rid of it. Sweet, I can change the color...
Otherwise, props to Yahoo. It's definently a step in the right directions. If it had the ability to add and remove certain elements I might even switch from IG. - INHUMANITY, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I remember when I made the switch from Yahoo over to Google when Yahoo would load up and the cursor would not automatically start in the search field. I would have to navigate to the search box every time I wanted to search for something.
I have not used Yahoo since. This new design may give it the oomph it has needed and lacked for many years. I like the design. It is loaded with content, yet they manage to keep it moderately clean and easy on the eyes. - diggmanic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks alot better than before.
- FinishdLawSkool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I do not like it. I find the older page looked more organized and had less useless rubbish.
This new home page reminds me of AOL. - vezquex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Still fails to validate hansomely, 41 errors and no doctype!
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yahoo.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's a good point, critic.
YAHOO GET RID OF THE WMP REQUIREMENT! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And Google doesn't have to bite off AOL
- yoshitx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yawn.
Yahoo has lost its edge. - AlanJV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm gonna stick with the old one. I'm a creature of habit and am already comfortable with it. There is no need for me to switch on over.
