That's the thing, I AM running IE 6.0 or *higher*, it's called firefox 2.0. - MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -8/+201First Comment Abuse, but: Do a hard refresh in firefox (ctrl+F5) and it will reload the css sheets. It doesn't work perfectly as some of the text on the top left still overlaps, but it's much better.
- dominasian, on 10/12/2007, -10/+143looks like ill stick to TPB for now
- Mc_Carter, on 10/12/2007, -10/+130It is wal mart its like going into their store on the internet.
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -11/+126Sent email to Wal*Mart:
I wanted to check out your new video download service, but when I attempted to go there in Mozilla Firefox (one of two browsers on this computer - the other being Konqueror, which, by the way, also doesn't work), I found a completely broken site. Just for reference, my PC was bought from your online store, with Linspire preinstalled.
I'm a web developer myself, and I have to say, you shouldn't allow a web designer to copmletely embarass you like that; cross-browser compatibility is not only the mark of a quality website, it allows your product to reach customers like myself.
According to the latest web statistics, Firefox has anywhere between 9-25% of the browser market - whatever the number, it is not insignificant, and should likely not be ignored.
I like Walmart, for a number of reasons: low prices; the activist pushes in the supply chain, such as the move to organics; the availability; the convenience of your online store. I was hoping this would spread to your newest feature, but I'm afraid it just doesn't work in my browser. - shortkud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+79ctrl+f5 = looks good
- rtini, on 10/12/2007, -1/+73Here's what it looks like in Firefox:
http://i9.tinypic.com/40biohx.jpg - sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -3/+73I'm too busy on Wal-Mart's "hub" social networking site to have time for watching movies.
- rtini, on 10/12/2007, -2/+64Funny, it looks okay in Safari on a Mac, there is some overlapping text and no ActiveX plugin, but otherwise it's perfect.
Firefox is totally trashed looking on either Mac or Windows though. Nice work Walmart!
You'd think it would explain to you that it's only compatible with IE, rather than give you a screen of garbage. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+56Here's what it's supposed to look like:

- imnojezus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39I know one of the engineers at HP who is working on this project. Man, do I need to give him some serious ***** tomorrow. Hilarious!
- Ajajadude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Rats. Now I'm not going to be able to use a service I never planned on using.
- SteaminTmann, on 10/12/2007, -13/+49Any self-respecting developer uses firefox, if not for its extensions alone, I know I for one love the browser. I wouldnt dare not develop a site that doesnt work in FF, its just hipocrasy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35Nope, still looks like ass in Firefox 2 on linux,
- cracell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Your Walmart has white floors? Mine has a lovely shade of brown.
- aussieNickuss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35When will companies learn?!? Cut it out with the proprietary software! Don't they see the increase in Macs sales and Linux use, as well as the massive speed of growth that Firefox is experiencing?
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32My Firefox browser only fails 95% at this site. Inaccurate. ;)
- spartan018, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29this error is occuring because the server is reporting the CSS file as MIME type "text/plain" instead of "text/css". to get it to look normal, load the page, then hold down Shift while clicking on refresh. it'll look (mostly) normal afterwards. still dugg though because technically this is still an incompatibility with firefox.
- damentz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31i opened the page in konqueror and i closed it immediatley because it looks exactly like myspace.
- trogdor282, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28You're right, who would spend a whole 5 minutes fixing a glitch that shuts out a mere few million people...
- kaffein, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Only the floors are not as white...

- dsignr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24It refreshes without looking at your cache.
ASSUMPTION: Javascript loads a modified css file from the one initially downloaded at page load. - CircleFusion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Good point. Let's blame Target.
- superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27Safari doesn't seem to do to well on it either. Thats an effective shut out of the mac audience, firefox & safari not working, that is.
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26That's ok, no one shops at walmart anyway. NO ONE.
*looks around* - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21We apologise again for the fault in the web page. Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked, have been sacked. --Wal-Mart
- damentz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23You don't need Soviet Russia to make a joke about Walmart.
Walmart IS a joke. - drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -1/+21seriously though, don't most firefox users know where to get movies without the aid of walmart? :)
- Ocelot13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21man, im betting Wal-Mart sees nothing wrong here.
but in all honesty, i can almost guarantee anyone who is dumb enough to purchase movies or music from Wal-Mart, isnt going to be using Firefox.. they are the type of people who refers to IE as "The Internet", and doesnt know that IE is actually a program. but this is just what i think - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20"It seems odd that someone smart enough to use Firefox"
You'd be surprised, Firefox is gaining alot of ground with the mainstream audience, even if most of them don't realize the greater significance of using the alternative browser. I have many computer illiterate friends who use it everyday and don't specifically know why they use it except for the fact that they hear people who are computer literate talk about it. Score one for Firefox's grassroots marketing campaign. - SPLASTiK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20From the Help Menu in Firefox you can report broken websites (at least in 2.0, can't remember previous).
I always report broken sites as Mozilla contacts them and explains to them why they should make their sites FF compliant. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21"Mine has a lovely shade of brown."
Actually its refered to Redneck Brown - Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Im using Opera twinkie and wanted to know how it looked in firefox. But thanks for speaking on behalf of other people, thumbs up for waramps !
- JaySherman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Is Firefox Garbage? Or is the badly implemented standards by some ignorant web monkeys who think IE is actually a good browser?
- Nanobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16The issue is due to the site sending the stylesheet as text/plain in the HTTP Content-type header. The correct content-type for CSS stylesheets is text/css. The site correctly has text/css in the "type" attribute of the "link" element, but the bad HTTP header that's sent with the actual document naturally overrides it. This is expected behavior.
The thing is, Internet Explorer has long ignored HTTP headers when it thinks it's smart enough to guess what the author wanted. This "smart" behavior does have side effects, such as cases where the author really does want the browser to treat a document as something it doesn't appear to be (for example, sending an HTML document as text/plain instead of text/html for the intended purpose of showing the user the source instead of the resulting webpage).
Because of Internet Explorer's behavior, there have been sites like Walmart's that incorrectly use text/plain instead of text/css for their stylesheets. The problems went unnoticed because they were only testing in IE. In order to support these poorly written websites, Opera and Safari decided to go against the standard and support stylesheets in this way as a special exception.
Firefox hasn't made a special exception, because it should be up to the website to tell the browser how the document should be treated. To disregard the given content-type like IE, Opera, and Safari do is to limit the website's control of how documents should be treated.
In short, the HTTP Content-type header that the Walmart website sends to your browser when the browser requests the stylesheet tells the browser to treat it as nothing more than plain text (which doesn't deliver any stylesheet information). Internet Explorer, Opera, and Safari just happen to be ignoring that header.
Here's a simple test case: http://www.webdevout.net/testcases/css-content-type/ - Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15For those in question, ctrl+f5 (to my knowledge) "refreshes" the website by re-downloading all of the files again (ignoring cache) I don't see with my explanation how this just fixed the website, but..
- JK1150, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19It's a beta...
- dsignr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Their source says "text/css" as the type.
But I do find it funny that the following comment can be found:
"/* Removes the dotted line from links in mozilla */"
Hey, at least they _tried_ - hyperfocal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Does he have to wear a blue vest while working on the Walmart project?
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16According to Boing Boing, even if you go ahead and use IE, "you'll be paying $20 for a 240X320 movie in a DRM-laden Windows Media file that won't play on a Zune or an iPod, or a computer running Mac or Linux."
I was going to say how great it was that they got the major studios to go along with their service, but now it looks like they're just setting a terrible precedent by being the MPAA's bitch.
There's just not much working for downloadable movies yet. iTunes won't let you watch the movie on anything other than your computer or iPod, and Netflix is streaming, not download.
I guess I'll have to stick with "other methods" if I want to get movies without renting/buying a DVD.
Can't the movie studios learn their lesson from the record industry? When you make it hard for people to buy your stuff online, you're not protecting your property, you're pushing people towards piracy. - nthitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Ctrl + F5 preforms a hard refresh in firefox. Instead of just reloading the page, it will reload the page and reload all elements on a page, that is to say, the JS, CSS and images will all be requested from the server again instead of loading from the cache. I'm not sure why that fixes the problem, probably due to some screwy JS.
- Aaryn015, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14This comes up under all the crap if you click on "Review Cart/Checkout":
"We're sorry ...
Our website requires the browser Internet Explorer version 6 or higher. It appears that you are using Firefox, Safari, or another browser that Wal-Mart Video Downloads doesn't currently support. Click here to get Internet Explorer for free from Microsoft."
So they obviously don't care about selling stuff to sane people....... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13It might look fine but do the Add to Cart buttons work? cause it looks fine in Opera as well but the Add buttons don't.
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13@Fordi - That's just awesome. They sell a product and then make a website that doesn't work with the product they sell. Genius.
- theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16*cough* @ aussie
Macs are proprietary... - nkassi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13And how is Firefox garbage ? Because it doesn't include hacks to support the broken implementation of css that IE does ?
