- mzkply, on 01/29/2008, -1/+220That's pretty much right, but just a little more complicated. The red button on the Airbus sidestick serves two purposes. Pressed once, it disconnect the autopilot if engaged. If pressed and held it locks out the other pilots sidestick.
The idea of this is that since the sticks are just electric command input devices if one stick was giving bad commands the other pilot could disable the other bad sidestick by pressing his button. Also, since the sticks do not move in unison like a conventional aircraft the other pilot doesn't get a visual picture of how much control input is being made by the other pilot. If the other pilot needed to intervene, say one pilot saw traffic and the other did not and needed to take immediate action, the pilot would push and hold this button to lock out the other pilots input. If for some reason the button was not pushed and both pilots were applying pressure to the sticks the computers sum the inputs. If both pull back it gives lots of pitch up. If one pulls full back and the other pushes full forward it sums the input to zero. The airplane does announce "Dual Input" aloud to let you know both pilots are trying to fly the airplane. - seldon452, on 01/29/2008, -9/+225Its almost as complicated as Microsoft Flight Sim.
- dmach27, on 01/29/2008, -8/+220Does this plane have missiles? what's the red "fire" button on the pilots' joysticks?
- DeskFlyer, on 01/29/2008, -1/+208That's the 'wings stay on - wings fall off' toggle button.
- ekai, on 01/29/2008, -5/+145where's the manual inflation nozzle to blow up Otto the Autopilot?
- TwoXist, on 01/29/2008, -1/+141All that high tech electronics and the seats still look like they cost 4 bucks.
- laserob, on 01/29/2008, -2/+124Shirley you can't be serious.
- trammell, on 01/29/2008, -6/+121That's fine and all, but where's the 8-track player?

I wonder where else they got them? - phore, on 01/29/2008, -5/+87pshh, i guess thats nice, but i'm waiting for the iPlane. It'll only have one button and a glossy touch screen and sync with my itunes, more importantly it'll have an apple logo.
- DeskFlyer, on 01/29/2008, -6/+85I am serious....and stop calling me surely.
- gnews, on 01/29/2008, -2/+72That's the closest we will get to a A380 cockpit, with all the high level security...
- DLRULZ, on 01/29/2008, -9/+76It wasn't interactive, you couldn't press any of the buttons in the cockpit and see what happened.

- xptweakerntn, on 01/29/2008, -1/+53I've seen a lot of "360's" before, I've actually even made a few of my own, and this is, by far, the best ever.
- christoast, on 09/04/2008, -2/+53Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can't take a guess for another two hours? - fkr3, on 01/29/2008, -0/+49I like the ultra high-tech features, like 3 cup holders EACH for the pilot and copilot!! Look at us schmucks with our single cup holders.....
- Misinformant, on 01/29/2008, -0/+41Navigator gets 4 cupholders.
- bxblox, on 01/29/2008, -1/+40Wait for the iPlane Air, it'll fit in a manila envelope and the landing gear is external, provided you have a hundred bucks to spare.
- kfury, on 01/29/2008, -1/+38The awesomeness of that comment can't be summed up by a 'thumbs up' click. Also, if both pilots pull up it doubles the input? I can see averaging when commands are in conflict, but summing when they're in agreement seems pretty non-optimal.
- inactive, on 01/29/2008, -17/+53This is officially the coolest thing I've ever seen on Digg.
- Sebach, on 01/29/2008, -0/+36Thumbs for the most information-filled comment I've read on Digg this week.
- ncapone, on 01/29/2008, -0/+35We have clearance, Clarence.
- cl2yp71c, on 01/29/2008, -0/+35The developers of Flight Simulator XI will have a blast.

- bowe, on 01/29/2008, -0/+33imagine if Steve Jobs made a plane, it'd only have 1 button.
- truspect0r, on 01/29/2008, -1/+32fail.
- zeptobyte, on 01/29/2008, -0/+30Well you don't want the pilot running out of coffee on an 18 hour flight!
- Gamer2k4, on 01/29/2008, -12/+42Buried for resizing my browser window.
- seldon452, on 01/29/2008, -2/+30Please, seldon452 is my dad. Call my seldon.

- pradaaddict, on 01/29/2008, -3/+27dugg for Leslie Neilsen and great justice
- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/29/2008, -1/+25Yeah...that's probably the closest you should get, unless you're a pilot or at some exhibition.
- amneosis, on 01/29/2008, -0/+24exatcly, all you need is to put the engines on/off and a joystick, totally over engineered.
- akbrian, on 01/29/2008, -0/+23Wow! Three cupholders per seat! Truly the future is here.
- Discerneth, on 01/29/2008, -3/+26Ever seen a grown man naked?

- phore, on 01/29/2008, -0/+20Apple will allow you to wirelessly use another plane's landing gear. I think the best feature is time machine. "Arrive at your destination before ever departing"
