- monkeywithagun, on 10/31/2008, -52/+371I look forward to seeing the blue screen of death wrapped around a sphere
- pradvan, on 11/01/2008, -50/+288OMG MS is sooo ripping off the iPhone OMG! OMG I must report this to Steve Jobs while I'm sucking his dick OMG
- gabe37, on 11/01/2008, -2/+70Watch out for those blue balls of death.
- Chubakkaz, on 11/01/2008, -0/+52I think the highlight was the infrared part of it, that wasn't on the original surface was it?
- TheInfinityZero, on 11/01/2008, -2/+53I'm still waiting for the computers from Minority Report.
- Termy58, on 11/01/2008, -5/+52Stop ***** comparing this to the iPhone this was in development since 2003, before the iPhone was even thought of. And touchscreens aren't ***** only for iPhone, apple didnt invent the touchscreen douchebags.
- Phoros, on 11/01/2008, -0/+47Okama Gamesphere FTW!
- overt, on 11/01/2008, -8/+41Her voice is so annoying. Still a cool video, so dugg.
- aenima987, on 11/01/2008, -22/+52Stop burying this guy, *****.
- rpeters, on 11/01/2008, -7/+34Crap at a higher price? I guess you never heard of Apple?
- Jforsyth89, on 11/01/2008, -1/+26From one of the youtube comments:
"The spherical monitor is genius - with flat monitors, the problem is that you can see the entire thing. I suppose until I can buy this, I'll have to make due by covering half of my monitor with a sheet of construction paper."
I thought it was pretty funny. - MonTheBuds, on 11/01/2008, -11/+36and then the inevitable picture on the Digg frontpage with FAIL on it.
- Forky, on 11/01/2008, -3/+22Talking about copying. How is that copy & paste for your iPhone going along?
- lostngone, on 11/01/2008, -0/+17From FAQ:
How does Microsoft Surface work?
http://www.microsoft.com/surface/about_faqs/faqs.a ...
Surface uses cameras to sense objects, hand gestures and touch. This user input is then processed and displayed on the surface using rear projection. Specifically:
Surface uses a rear projection system which displays an image onto the underside of a thin diffuser which is the table's surface. Infrared light is also projected onto the underside of the diffuser.
Objects such as fingers are visible through the diffuser by series of infrared–sensitive cameras, positioned underneath the surface of the tabletop.
An image processing system processes the camera images to detect fingers, custom tags and other objects such as paint brushes when touching the display.
The objects recognized with this system are reported to applications running in the computer so that they can react to object shapes, 2D bar codes (tags), movement and touch. - wibambau, on 11/01/2008, -4/+20The blue sphere of death.
- pault107, on 11/01/2008, -0/+15I want a big ass-table.
- Biks, on 11/01/2008, -1/+16So hopefully someone will come up with a killer app for this thing. Anytime there is a demo for a new, touchy feeling thing (i.e ipod touch) it shows the world obsessed with spinning and resizing images. I can see the damn photo fine...MAYBE I'll zoom in if she lost her top.
- mcmlxxii, on 11/01/2008, -6/+19Why wait until then?
- maxz2508, on 11/01/2008, -0/+13This is NOT the surface.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -2/+14Okay, That was cool.
So how much do they cost? - threemagic, on 11/01/2008, -4/+16"Sir, he posted a comment about the obvious"
"Damn him, aim negative digg ray...annnddddddd...."
"FIRE" - billizm, on 11/01/2008, -10/+22If only it were made by Apple... then this would really get dugg up, despite that videos like this have been around a couple years.
- jimv1983, on 11/01/2008, -4/+15BSOD? I have not seen one of those on my computer in years, since Win 98. The only thing that ever causes BSOD anymore is hardware failure and that cant be blamed on MS.
- sjorsvb, on 11/01/2008, -1/+12Stop with the ***** photo dragging and resizing already!
- aenima987, on 11/01/2008, -4/+14I assume you're one of Mr Job's little bitches.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -1/+11Awesome, a spherical monitor. It's much more efficient to only see half of the display at a time. Although, it looks very useful to be able to collaborate with my coworkers by drawing on a ball with my fingers and moving the pictures over to their side rather than drawing on a whiteboard or a now-obsolete flat monitor, therefore being unable to move it in front of them, because they can already see it.
As a stopgap solution until we can purchase this technology, I'm sending out a staff memo that all further reports should be submitted on the surface of a volleyball. - pond70, on 11/01/2008, -1/+11there was another dude touching his big ball ...hahahaha awesome
- wonderbriefs, on 11/01/2008, -2/+11Digg: You're doing it wrong.
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=micros ... - dave122, on 11/01/2008, -0/+9it's called a concept, they are actually innovating, which is pretty great. Unless your definition of innovation is taking 3 year old technology and putting it in a nice shiny case and giving putting an 'i' in front of it. *cough* apple *cough*
- Clbull, on 11/01/2008, -3/+12I lol'd
- JanYpe, on 11/01/2008, -6/+15Shut up, you wanker.
- matrix121, on 11/01/2008, -0/+9THANK YOU.
- Katana314, on 11/01/2008, -1/+10Okay, whatever MS/Apple ***** you want to spout...you have to admit that hands ABOVE the table, and having a 3D surface, is pretty new and cool.
- Katana314, on 11/01/2008, -0/+8Erm. They DID show off more than just the touch things. This thing can read your hand from a distance.
- DragonForce4, on 11/01/2008, -1/+9for ten million dollars
- Sadistex, on 11/01/2008, -2/+10All you have to do is pull back a couple inches.
- fuzzynyanko, on 11/01/2008, -0/+8Ever see CNN's fancy screen?
- svensksvamp, on 11/01/2008, -0/+7"If you prefer to interact with your computer in three dimensions..."
eh... woot? - burnin8r28, on 11/01/2008, -0/+7Yeah, it's great. Until the robot up rise. Just wait until your table gets rick roll'd.
- Elpants, on 11/01/2008, -0/+7I like where this is going.
- WilliamAdama, on 11/02/2008, -0/+6wow you're annoying.
- sittered, on 11/02/2008, -0/+6I like a lot of things about Apple, but all those things barely make up for the rabid fanboys. When did evangelism find its way into personal computing? Why do people take it personally when someone doesn't like what they like?
I guess I'm just trying to say what pradvan said without bringing dicksucking and OMG into it. - SmileHeart, on 11/01/2008, -4/+10Awesome
- Pritchard, on 11/02/2008, -0/+6*weiner
- Yage2006, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5I can imagine you getting your ass handed to you by someone with a mouse/keyboard :)
- lies03, on 11/01/2008, -1/+6They need to change the blue to black, then it will be a black hole.
- kirakun, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5For a moment, I thought they have invented a touch screen that can touch back.
- Narrwald, on 11/01/2008, -2/+7Not Surface.
- knute5, on 11/01/2008, -1/+6It's cool but it's klunky. Cameras below and infrared above a big chunk of glass - yuck. The goal is to make technology as unobtrusive and accessible as possible, and MS stories always have this "look at me, look at me, isn't this neat?" vibe to them. Show me innovative solutions to improve what I do, or show me a new way to do things and I'll buy. Put it in a product and THEN let me know. Otherwise, you're just strutting ... and we won't see something practical for years.
- elnerdo, on 11/01/2008, -1/+6Umm..
If you're going to back Microsoft, at least make sense.. -
