- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19God forbid someone gets to make a little money for their hard work.
- JoshuaGross, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13It's $10.
Ten. Dollars.
Give the guy a break for trying not to lose money on it. - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13A suggestion to the themespress.com owner: I'd like to try it before having to register for the site. Lemme take a quick gander and how it works, before putting me through the paces of registering for another website.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Blog spam. Link directly to the site you're digging you traffic leech.
Buried. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Real link: http://www.themespress.com/
- jeff1943, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Unfortunately, it's not free..
- Jon20usa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Here is the forum post about it on Open Web Design http://www.openwebdesign.org/forum/topic.php?id=18905&f=1
It seems like a great idea and should be very successful if everything works correctly (including stuff like validating that some may care about). I think $10 is a good price. - jole, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Correct me if I'm wrong, but anybody who knows how to upload a website and actually cares enough to figure out that life does exist beyond the default WordPress themes probably knows how to make a theme using CSS/XHTML, especially if you grab one of OSWD or Open Web Design. It's not that hard.
Not to mention, the whole fun of blogging and doing stuff on the Internet is screwing around with the stuff. I personally would never pay someone to take away my fun :)
My two cents. - BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I do find that funny. I'm just as guilty as the next guy too. For some reason on the internet 10 dollars becomes waaay too much even though 1 dollar or less would also feel 'too little' or awkward to pay. I mean, on any given day we'll spend 10 bucks for random crap but on the internet it always sucks unless we're getting something physical.
Maybe a more universal and easy to manage payment system for the internet is in order. However I'll probably find myself purchasing this, I am not a good enough coder to really do what I'd like to with my wordpress site. - loneraven, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5lame. should've mentioned that it was $10 in the description.
otherwise, this is lame. - benplanet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3lol give him a break.. 10 bucks is nothing! it will prolly save you a lot of headaches .. because wordpress is nice and easy to use. good luck on this project joe ;)
- JoshuaGross, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why give your two cents.... when you could give Sir Kaplan $10?
Kidding. I'm sure some will find it useful, I might have used it if I found out about it a week ago. Some non-personal blogs, even if you have fun tweaking with that stuff, you just want up ASAP... - tomi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4And NOW you tell me about this? Geez, so many times in the past I could've used something like this...
- brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why is he getting dug down? Does everyone register for X before they even know what it is? Sheesh people...
- iFrank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This sounds pretty cool, but I think the real issue people have with making Wordpress themes is getting the CSS right. Many Wordpress users have moderate knowledge of some basic web programming languages, but lack the deep understanding of CSS required to build a multi-browser compatible theme.
If you already have the images, the HTML and the CSS, however, it's fairly reasonable to think that you'd be able to at least figure out how to throw some simple PHP commands in there.
If I'm misunderstanding the function of this site, please let me know, but I don't think I'm too far off. - vijayanand12003, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1you can get lots of templates here
http://bestwebsitetemplates.org - dtietze1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well then why not link directly to http://www.themespress.com/ instead of your Blog entry? Your entire blog entry almost fits into Digg's description.
I think people aren't just complaining because you're providing a link to themespress, but rather because you're linking to your blog instead of the site of interest. - seanrox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey brendanc.
Yes I know Joe and I was a beta tester for him on this project. I've even paid to use the service myself... no free rides for me.
If I didn't think this was good and useful to the WordPress community, I wouldn't have dugg it... doesn't matter if I know him or not. I mentioned right in my description that he was a friend. It's not like I tried to hide it.
I've had other friends do web projects that were not so good and I didn't try to help promote them. I wasn't trying to SPAM anyone. - seanrox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hi dtietze1. I did put the URL in my description here on digg and on my site.
You'll notice my description here says: "A good friend of mine Joe Kaplan just launched ThemesPress.com" but I didn't realise that the ThemesPress.com wasn't an actual clickable link till it was too late. I did look for a away to edit the digg but couldn't find a way.
Again, I wasn't trying to SPAM or do something wrong, I'm just trying to promote a good site project, one that I've actually used while in beta test and when it went public. I even pay the $10.00 per theme like everyone else. - MrBaconpants, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I agree.. that is the best part about having a blog.
I gladly take your two cents. - tiga31328, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Neat but this Digg is SPAM and reported as such.
- brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Unfortunately I'd have to agree. It would be one thing if someone had used it and was totally unrelated... but its the dev's friend submitting...
Sorry man, it's spam. - darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I wish there was a free alternative. I make so mayn client sites with wordpress, and have to get a coder to do the php parts when I could cut costs by using a system like this heh
- sensibledriver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2SPAM.
- Rajun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Lets see how it help me. I want to change my site http://www.reportbd.com with a new theme of my own creation.
- JugularBean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a decent site for n00bs. I'd rather work my own themes.
- Rajun, on 12/08/2007, -0/+0I will also use it to subdomain of my new site about RuneScape game http://www.runescape123.com to create RuneScape help guide.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1...or you could learn PHP, since you have so "mayn" clients that require it.
- z00k, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Gah....... Needs to be free :(
meh. - seanrox, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Hi Jon. You'll notice on the OWD post that I added the digg link to here ;) and as an added bonus, I'm an admin over at OWD :)
ThemesPress.com is working really well. I helped with a lot of the beta testing and bug checking, so keeping our fingers crossed, it should work 100% without any errors. If you or someone else finds a bug, let Joe or myself know. - swamyg1, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0total crap.
- TechZ, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2A great idea I think.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2not free, so suck ballz
- llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1i hate it when i digg something and the stupid button doesn't work. ever since the #1 crap digg button seems broken.
