Besides, who the hell tasers cops, they'll probably just shoot you.
- Arrakistor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39It was suppsedly invented to keep cops from tasering themselves accidently!

*Assault rifles
*Nightsticks
*Uzis
*Fists
*Pepper spray - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33Everyone... everyone! Listen... just make sure you react to it! Don't do that "I'm Superman" *****. Fall on the ground, and wriggle in a huge fit. Carry some alkaseltzer tablets and put them in your mouth if you have to. When "the man" runs off to hit someone else, jump to your feet, wipe your mouth and say, "I hate that *****." and escape into the night. Don't ruin it for everyone. That's all I'm sayin'.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27...you should read the paper sometime. any time your arms go above your waist with *anything* in your hands, you are in the process of committing an "assault"... and the unfortunately reality is that a dead suspect if far easier to defend your police department against than a wounded, innocent citizen. Hence standing orders and training that dictate the use of lethal force any time an officer perceives that an assault is about to happen against them (when non-leathal alternatives are unavailale or have proved unsuccessful).
This happens on a regular basis across this "great" country of ours... - Arrakistor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I'm not sure the public at large would be complacent with that degree of escalation in violence, as they are with tasers and pepperspray. Hard to say a gun is non-lethal.
- wafflez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12lol i would just pretend like the tazer was working on me so the cop would ***** off.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"I suspect that this fabric is just some sort of woven, highly conductive mesh, so the electricity takes the path of lowest resistance between the two taser electrodes, rather than through your skin (which is somewhat higher resistance)."
Well, if that's true, then wouldn't a tinfoil lining work just as well... maybe even a 'tinfoil hat' ;-) - williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I'll laugh when thug cops get followed home and have their houses burned down by pissed-off protesters.
- willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"then wouldn't a tinfoil lining work just as well."
yes it would. try it.
It could also damage the taser/stun gun because the resistance would be so low it would effectively be a short circuit. - betacmag4u, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Remember Ruby Ridge
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Ridge - racey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wouldn't a flak jacket protect you from a Taser anyway? Surely you can only be electrocuted if the 'pins' get through to your skin.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13> cops beating up folks with their tasers?
...careful what you ask for, 'cause for your average cop the next step involves them emptying their clip into critical parts of your body. - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Depends if the electrodes are close enough for the electricity to jump to your body. They work better when they're in direct contact (or when they penetrate the skin for best effect), however because of the extremely high voltage (but low amperage), the electricity can still jump an inch or two through clothing.
I suspect that this fabric is just some sort of woven, highly conductive mesh, so the electricity takes the path of lowest resistance between the two taser electrodes, rather than through your skin (which is somewhat higher resistance). I'm curious if it would work if the taser barbs actually penetrated the clothing into the skin (ie: if they shot the barbs at the guy wearing the "protected" t-shirt at the end, rather than just using it in contact mode). - Rodahue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9NEW! Haha, definitely.
Sadly, the legislative changes in the US (and the UK, for that matter) combined with the expertise at manufacturing consent is a horrible precursor to serious and wide-ranging problems.
I expect that someone's going to end up fighting for their freedom and their lives, and if it's not us, it will be our victims.
History just provides too many well-documented examples of this for us to deny the likelihood - apathy in the face of this sort of thing has only ever led to bad consequences.
I'd be interested to see someone distributing things that can keep you safe against attacks by emotionally unstable government officials like the fat guy here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVdH1G0KQt4
or these people: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqDCImxBv4A
Any government that has nothing to hide, shouldn't have a problem with a purely defensive piece of clothing being worn by a law-abiding person, should it? - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8because they can get tons of taxpayer dollars to sell them to the cops
- diggduggjoe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Neat idea, but it will force the escalation of tactics. Body armor has forced cops to shoot at the head first, so they can be sure you are eliminated as a threat (permanently). They cannot trust the average joe is not wearing armor. A couple of young men were gunned down in my town and the head shot was terminal.
Would cops begin head shots to peaceful protesters? I am not sure I would like to test the fascist state without a very good reason. I would guess we will soon be desensitized to peaceful protesters 8 miles from a convention being shot for not agreeing with "The Decider"
It amazes me how close that is to "The Dictator" that Bush said he wanted to be. - Norseman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Not if the pins penetrate through the rubber lining and get to your skin. You either need to keep the pins from getting through the rubber, or you need the pins to pass through something more conductive than your body so that the current doesn't shock you. Theoretically, you could use some sort of conductive paint applied to your torso. I definitely wouldn't use tinfoil though, since it's too prone to breaking and it would be noisy enough to give the game away.
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Hm. I pick cops not abusing their authority. That is an option, even if you didn't list it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sorry, Unable to process request at this time -- error 999.
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11If I could make clothes with this stuff as a lining... I'd certainly wear it to a protest... just as protection... XD cant imagine the look on their face when they tazer me and I don't fall over... (course I'll willingly lye down...XD i just dont wanna be tazered >_> =P)

//Boom Headshot - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@Deuterium - The only legitimate reason for your comment is if your saying it should be a "magazine." If not, you're a tool.
- aratika, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5At least the hippie army would be nice and clean. You know - matching uniforms and all.
Anyway - it would certainly an improvement over the usual fare: http://zombietime.com/hall_of_shame/ - Arrakistor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually, I would think it DOES protect against that new fancy microwave deal, as it acts as a Faraday cage.
- Arrakistor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@sho,
You are right, we will blame them. We as american citizens have the right to peacefully protest. It is a constitutional right. All government which tries to stop peaceful protest should be fired and personally liable, in my opinion. - Arrakistor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.defensereview.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=860
- shodanx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3that's fine, we got sports armor and gas masks
all you have left is high pressure hoses and real bullet
that'll look real good on the 6 o'clock news
(bringing attention to the cause means protesters wins, it's all they can hope for in any case, just look at tiananmen square) - Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5OC (pepperspray) will still work
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It would have been really helpful if the poster had linked to the correct page....
- 5hop4orce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, imagine an army of protesters being able to buy this fabric--or at least being able to find a price and/or purchase link. This is a "low-tech" fabric that no one can buy! You might as well imagine an army clothed in diamonds!
- jon3k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Imagine an army of protesters wearing THIS! "
Ok, I'm imagining 500 dirty hippies getting shot with tear gas. - t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hmmm, why not just put some fine wire mesh in the jacket, like flywire or something, for the homebrew solution?
- Arrakistor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3if you designed a burgkah out of it, it would. Alternatively, your body would be fine as long as you don't mind the feeling of your face melting off. And of course, I imagine you could retrofit a paintball mask with a faraday cage material.
- tf5bassist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wow... crazy crazy stuff there... Not saying where I stand with all those subjects.. but... crazy photos.
And yes... Berkeley, CA is really that weird. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@tf5bassist FTW!
- meatstack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Or crazy right wing dingbats who protest marine funerals because they love fags?
Jackass. We have idiots on both sides. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3-1, False. The police rules of engagement wrt riot control starts with the taser, then proceeds to either pepper spray, manhandling, physical force, batons, and as a last resort (and in the face of possible critical injury to the policeman himself, i.e. the officer feels his life is in grave danger), the glock comes out. Note that this is specific to one-on-one encounters, when the officer is attempting to apprehend a specific person, and has nothing to do with crowd dispersal techniques. .
BTW I'd much rather get tasered and live to tell about it than have a trigger-happy, nervous cop and his outnumbered buddies start opening fire with their 9mm handguns. You can talk of facism and lack of basic rights in the US all you want, but in nearly every circumstance (and I'm not saying all), the protesters were neither peaceful nor law-abiding. I know it's stupid to require a permit to peaceably assemble, but that's how it works here. It's not like the stock footage clips of the Muslim world where everyone is just pouring down the streets burning flags and screaming at the tops of their lungs, and the whole permit thing is designed to prevent that kind of nonsense. - jjesusfreak01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its a protest. Theoretically, the protesters were never decided to be a threat worthy of lethal force. In fact, less people would get hurt if police left the protesters alone for the most part. That said, police using deadly force against protesters in this country is very very bad. In a criminal situation (a non riot police situation), police can move to the next degree of force, but here it just isnt necessary.
There are two kinds of riots, the violent kind and the non violent kind. Sometimes the police dont take the time to differentiate. NV riots (protests) should never have tasers used on them, but this happens. Why not wear a shirt of this stuff to one of those? If the riot is violent, then the police can do whatever they need to do to protect the public. - Arrakistor, on 10/12/2007, -21/+23Tired of seeing all those cops beating up folks with their tasers? Me too. Next time instead of complaining about how you were tasered for excercising your first amendment rights, just hack the taser by lining your clothes with this! How long till one of you diggers tells us how to make this stuff at home?
- catbeller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@davev: yes, we would blame the police for killing protestors. because they killed them. with guns.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I see you would like to go back to the days when the police had to use batons, dogs, and rubber bullets.
