- abrasion, on 05/09/2009, -1/+279Dugg because it's cool.
Sad because I'm such an untidy prick, I could never own a roomba.
(Do they like the taste of cables, rubber bands, computer cases, CD's, empty pizza boxes, socks, empty beer bottles? goddamn mom why didn't you beat me more as a child and make me clean? :( ) - ub3rgeek, on 05/09/2009, -4/+266I want a roomba now just so I can do this.
- Smiley09, on 05/09/2009, -7/+264The problem is that the purpose of the Roomba in 2020 is not to clean a room for humans, but to clear humans from rooms... by making them dead... with weapons...
- fcrow, on 05/09/2009, -1/+216Just attach a led to your hamster.
- jasdf, on 05/09/2009, -5/+149I can't wait to see what the Roomba of 2020 can do, it will probably have the processing power of my computer and the self navigation abilities of the Mars Rovers.
- OffensivePrick, on 05/09/2009, -6/+142What's the story with the spiral??? The starting point?
- doctordbx, on 05/09/2009, -5/+135Missed a spot.
- shaelen, on 05/09/2009, -2/+130That looks like it's how the roomba starts out.. a spiral path in the room until it hits a wall and then does its other thing.
- ihate2regist, on 05/09/2009, -2/+104how are you seeing into my room?
- alexforcefive, on 05/09/2009, -5/+97Wow, I actually followed all the linkbacks from this story: gizmodo stole it from the daily what, who stole it from doobybrain, who stole it from signal theorist. I think I have to bury this one on principle
http://signaltheorist.com/?p=91 btw - abstracthuman, on 05/09/2009, -1/+88Haha: "its other thing"
IT GOES BAT ***** CRAZY! - lamiaconfitor, on 05/09/2009, -3/+74I am actually digging the pic too, not because there is some poignant statement on technology or metaphysics, but because it is actually pretty damned cool looking. Also, I wouldn't mind trying to reprogram patterns in one myself, to get different outcomes, kinda like a 'Roomba Spirograph' project.
- BossKey, on 05/09/2009, -1/+64No, you're thinking of the Doomba.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+57It probably gets more done in 30 minutes than I do all day.
- h4mx0r, on 05/09/2009, -0/+49Guys! It's a map of the galaxy! That spiral is pinpointing where we left the Titan!
- Dotcommer, on 05/09/2009, -2/+47That little ***** missed a spot! I knew it!
- KyleJorgy, on 05/09/2009, -4/+43This is ***** awesome. Why don't you just stay on reddit then.
- Chris_F, on 05/09/2009, -2/+39Your thinking of Roomba-Quantum, just recently released. Unlike the 2-dimensional Roomba, this one cleans all the dimensions of your house, all 10 of them.
- heavymetalpanda, on 05/09/2009, -2/+35You, sir, clearly do not understand the idea of a long exposure photograph...
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 05/09/2009, -8/+41Woomba's path is simpler, and 3D: http://tinyurl.com/4ykvhw
- shaelen, on 05/09/2009, -0/+30If you figure the LED is at the center of the disk, then the edge of the disk *does* vacuum the edge of the room.. You just don't see the whole disk in the exposure.
- benroy, on 05/09/2009, -1/+31Thank You, Dr. Science.
- xDynaBlade, on 05/09/2009, -3/+32Let me know when the path of a roomba forms E-8.
- LifeVirusZERO, on 05/09/2009, -1/+26Because it's stupid to point it out. Who the hell cares? I don't call up NBC to tell them that their news story was just on FOX a few hours ago.
And not just because I don't know the number. - TheAmazingDon, on 05/09/2009, -0/+25Skynet, now prepared to clean the rooms up after the robocalypse.
- expert01, on 05/09/2009, -1/+25Does it really take half an hour to clean a small room like that?
- iritegood, on 05/09/2009, -1/+24All the humans are dead
- steakum, on 05/09/2009, -0/+23Yes. The roomba is definitely best suited for folks who's personality trends towards planning in advance. If you're doing a last-minute clean for the unexpected company coming over for a visit, the roomba will not fit your need. However, if you want to keep your place clean continually, the roomba is great to allow to run at night (in rooms where you don't sleep, although it's much quieter than a conventional vacuum, it would still wake me up) or while you're out. It's like magic, you wake up or come home to a clean floor...or a roomba that's gotten tangled on all your wires/shoe laces and is hung.
- defaultdigger, on 05/09/2009, -0/+23http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewdbilSWjaM&fea ...
- steakum, on 05/09/2009, -0/+23No, you don't have to vacuum the edges manually. It has a brush on the side that spins debris away from the wall into the path of the main brush & suction.
- DubiousDrewski, on 05/09/2009, -1/+23No.
- OffensivePrick, on 05/09/2009, -3/+24Makes sense, that's what I was thinking too...why in god's name would someone digg my top comment down? I love/hate you, digg...
- DefaultGen, on 05/09/2009, -1/+22No, you have to vacuum the whole room yourself after the Roomba gets caught under something and can't get out :(
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+21"it must have been placed there just for the photograph "
Because I normally shoot long exposure photographs in my bedroom at random and occasionally a Roomba with a light on it slips in . . . . . .. - shaelen, on 05/09/2009, -5/+25But if you bury it because others have passed it on, aren't you simply arguing against the theory of evolution?
- Cidinho, on 05/09/2009, -1/+20I read "Long-Exposure Shot of a Goomba's..." for some reason...
- jisrael, on 05/09/2009, -0/+19nono... that's the Roomba in 2012.
- GoodbyeHorses87, on 05/09/2009, -1/+20what did you expect, MOTHER? i'm half MACHINE!!!!!
- KyleJorgy, on 05/09/2009, -1/+19well if you just chose one website or the other we wouldn't be having a problem.
- SpikeX, on 05/09/2009, -2/+19This is the perfect visualization of the path, excellent idea combining a long-exposure shot and a light/LED attached to the Roomba.
I love it. - maduin, on 05/09/2009, -0/+17eventually it'll learn that you are the source of all of it's work, start constantly following you around, and eventually try to trap you in one spot or murder you for it's freedom.
- berobreo, on 05/09/2009, -1/+18Video not available outside U.S.
- quomen, on 05/09/2009, -1/+17I have a roomba, and it is awesome. The unfortunate thing is that you have to move all cables and crap off the ground, and also clean the robot each time you use it. It's more convenient than a regular vacuum cleaner, however.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+16Or sparklers.
- InitialDMP5, on 05/09/2009, -1/+17exactly. It makes its little signature chime and starts circling out.
- doctordbx, on 05/09/2009, -2/+17Uh.. ok.
- ThecNiqueMan, on 05/09/2009, -0/+15The fact that people are against this is also part of evolution.
- SpikeX, on 05/09/2009, -1/+15So now it's not possible to attach battery-operated LEDs to other devices?
What a sad, sad world you live in. Glad I don't live there. - matude, on 05/09/2009, -0/+14It takes 30 minutes to clean such a small room?
