- SixSider, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Phill, you really enjoy making new blogs, don't you? 66 blogs on blogger alone. Scary. You mat want to give one or two your attention.
- figvam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Looks a bit like black-hat SEO/spamming to me - creating one-post blogs to emphasize the keywords in the domain name? No digg!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I like sketchup. I just wish it could export to swf. I also wish mysterious extra white lines wouldn't appear when I look at it with various angles. They show up when exporting to png as well, which makes tracing the bitmap in Flash messy. But other than, it's really easy. You can figure it out with the 3 included tutorials in about 10 minutes. Now I just dunno what to make...
- dscx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually its very nice software because of the speed which you can draw up sketches, its not meant to replace autocad or something.
- Attic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Expecting to find some usefull info on how to use Sketchup I clicked this link. Landed on a blog-entry which in effect features nothing but a few tips for cheap computers, some links to computer user groups, some self-promotion by the author, and
oh wait....
there's also a link to the flash-tutorials on the official Sketchup-site...
Well, that was another 5 minutes of my time waisted... - einfeldt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Speaking of Flash and open source, I would love it if someone would tell me that there is an open source app that runs on Linux for turning video into .swf format, or some comparably small format. My email is einfeldt at g mail dot com
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@chris9902: You're an inconsiderate dick.
@automagically: There's an option to fix this, at least from what I've experienced... "Correct reversed picking driver bug" in system prefs>openGL... I hope that works for you, if not, try enabling/disabling hardware acceleration and such. - ChippyLasticko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Agreed: SketchUp has UI, Usability, Speed of object Creation, and learning curve all in it's favor. Its no AutoCad and it's not attempting to replace such a heavy-weight tool. It's the AutoCad for the average-Joe masses packed with some sweet features. I've been using it a while.
Unfortunately, the poster's blogging method is entirely disagreeable. Many of his "blogs" don't even have a 1st post. It's not how you're supposed to use a blogging engine. Put your 100 thoughts into 1 blog.. don't run 100 blogs for your 100 thoughts. - retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a cool program, I've used it for about 2 years before google bought them out. It's fast, simple, and easy to learn, which is good. I not only use it for fast/simple stuff; it's a great way to start a more advanced model by composing individual parts in sketchup then exporting to say, 3ds max.
- danielg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here is a list of his other one-post blogs: http://www.blogger.com/profile/708760
No digg. - detroitsux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sketchup's an awesome program. I've been using for close to 5 years and there's a ton of advantages. It's a lot faster than those heavier 3d programs and can be used to quickly create a 3d model in front of your clients where you're limited to a 2d isometric diagram with the traditional pencil+paper method.
I'm not inviting the Mac vs PC debate, but it works great on both, then like retral mentioned, you can export it to DW* and 3D* formats for AutoCAD or Max workstations at work (regardless of what platform your job tells you to use). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From the site:
"Google's recently released Sketchup software will unleash a torrent of new 3D creative expression. By distributing this software for free, literally millions more youth and adults will be able to dabble and develop skill at expressing their ideas in 3D."
Um, yeah. I'm sure that's real high on everyone's to-do list, right after "learn to knit my own socks from dog hair." - Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2add a pause button and seek bar to any flash:

- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2And the picture of Phil Shappiro is priceless.

There are some plugins on the net where you can export the models into 3DS Max or Maya (and any other program) then you could import them into Half-Life 2 (or any game engine)
it makes map building a lot more fun and a lot quicker. - estacado, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The flash tutorials have no pause/play button on them. You have no choice but to watch it 'till the end.
- videowashdc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Thanks for the info Phil. I'll wait for the Linux version. Read the description on sketchup.org web site - a useful application within my budget. :-) Justin
- Razerious, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1... Ok
- alphatally, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Why in the world did this get buried? This is post is the only reason this comment is hundred times better then the attached article that made the frontpage.
- kloud213, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1delete me
- hoofarted, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1---
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2SketchUp sucks... An application that can produce 3D models? It looks like it came from the 90's.
