Japanese-Style Keyboards Look Almost Too Good for Typing
gizmodo.com — These traditional Japanese-style keyboards are a class apart from the grey or white boringness of the average keyboard. As well as looking different, and neat these devices are even handmade for that extra "creative" touch.

- yongke, on 04/09/2008, -1/+44Absolutely an abomination, but it's from Japan, so it's Kawaii (^.^) !!!!
- bosssmiley, on 04/09/2008, -1/+16Dugg for summing up the weeaboo mindset perfectly. ^-^
Those kitschy pieces of tat are no Datamancer custom jobs ( http://www.datamancer.net/keyboards/keyboards.htm ), not by a loooooooong stretch.- fucknuggets, on 04/09/2008, -1/+4those are the best looking keyboards i have ever seen
- themastersb, on 04/09/2008, -1/+3You forgot the "~Desu"
- KingGorilla, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1The cherry blossom one looks like it has a skin rash
- bosssmiley, on 04/09/2008, -1/+16Dugg for summing up the weeaboo mindset perfectly. ^-^
- Topher06, on 04/09/2008, -3/+8I will take a white or beige keyboard please. Then I can puke on it and get the same effect.
- sonnysavage, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Looking at the gold one could induce vomiting
- antdude, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1I want clicky keyboards. Co-workers and bosses say I type too loud! Duh! I am faster with clicky types. If they gave me soft ones, then I am less productive. :P
- Tehrooni, on 04/09/2008, -8/+1Those Japs will think of anything to make an extra buck.
- qtpheonix, on 04/09/2008, -0/+9i can't even see the letters on the keyboard... might as well just make it a painting.
- Culyt, on 04/09/2008, -1/+1If you need to see the letters, you suck.
These keyboards are horrible anyway.
- Culyt, on 04/09/2008, -1/+1If you need to see the letters, you suck.
- devaka, on 04/09/2008, -2/+2nice pads, but mine genius is better :)
- jggube, on 04/09/2008, -4/+3"attractiveness costs, mind you, as they're available for $154.90"... not too bad considering the keyboard I want to get (Logitech diNovo Edge 2) is over $160 dollars.
- Gregsaw, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1found that for ~90 (with rebate)
- Vertabreaker, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3The green keyboard made me go crossed eyed.
- Patori, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1I think I see a boat!
- Eira, on 04/09/2008, -1/+6Try typing on a Japanese keyboard. You won't think they're cool after that... The space bar is like half the length of an American one, and if you hit the wrong button, everything you typed just turns into random hiragana and kanji.
- juliustan, on 04/09/2008, -3/+3you know, there is a character change button on Japanese keyboards which you can use to switch to english. I guess you were to ignorant to try though.
- MiDri, on 04/09/2008, -1/+1on the Japanese keyboard its the engwish key.
- loungechair, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1On my japanese keyboard the key says "type perforably in english and japanese with keystroke action"
- MiDri, on 04/09/2008, -1/+1on the Japanese keyboard its the engwish key.
- juliustan, on 04/09/2008, -3/+3you know, there is a character change button on Japanese keyboards which you can use to switch to english. I guess you were to ignorant to try though.
- jakobrowning, on 04/09/2008, -9/+5Japanese? Did anyone else notice that all those keyboards have english letters on them? Buried as inaccurate.
- PocchieTheMan, on 04/09/2008, -0/+4Read Japanese STYLE.
- juliustan, on 04/09/2008, -0/+5If the colors weren't so blinding (or if you actually looked at the pictures) you will notice that the keyboards have the traditional hirigana and kanji right right under the english letters.
- ZellD, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2That's how keyboards are designed in Japan. English letters with small japanese ones beneth. Moreover, you really don't even need the Japanese characters since the commonly uesd input system involves a phonetic change RA -> ら The major differences of a Japanese keyboard tend to be in the symbol and function keys.
- juliustan, on 04/09/2008, -0/+4aka romanji.
- secleinteer, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1rōmaji*
- jakobrowning, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1Well... Don't I feel like a jack-ass. I thought I was being all insightful, but instead I FAIL! Thanks for the lesson guys.
- Hoogs, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1No thanks, I like to be able to actually see what's on the keys.
- Rizmaster, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Noob. If you need to see the keys, you've got to learn to ***** type, dude. These keyboards suck balls but that doesn't excuse stupidity.
- Hoogs, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Shut up. No, I don't have the location of every single key memorized, but that doesn't make me stupid.
- Rizmaster, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Noob. If you need to see the keys, you've got to learn to ***** type, dude. These keyboards suck balls but that doesn't excuse stupidity.
- sponeil, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3Man, this was terrible. I was expecting some sleek shapes and lighting added to the keyboards, not ugly coloring added to the keys of a regular keyboard. They need to get their best manga/anime artists to draw up some concept art for futuristic keyboards, and then have a company make them.
- Falldog, on 04/09/2008, -4/+2mine's better: http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/07/ ...
- Sandkat, on 04/09/2008, -3/+1No, mine is better: http://iria.homestead.com/files/keyboard.jpg

- juliustan, on 04/09/2008, -1/+9i fail to see how these are "Japanese-Style" keyboards rather than just "Stylized Japanese Keyboards"
Is there something Japanese about the designs that were plastered on the keyboards? Look like regular designs to me.
buried as inaccurate.- amoeba, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1the keyboards are for japanese computers, they have special keys for switching character input. check beside the space bar and below the esc key.
- DarkGerbil, on 04/09/2008, -0/+0It must be pretty high, because I fail to see the broomstick up your ass.
- llcheesell, on 04/09/2008, -0/+0some of styles are good, but not suitable for keyboard.
- Slagtits, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3I'd tap that.
- Myztry, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1They look more like blocks of chocolate. The first one shows a block with the Easter foil on it, and the second shot shows the 'strawberries and cream' chocolate underneath...
- plytheman, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Anyone know what a good paint would be to use on a plastic keyboard? Looks like a fun project but I want to make sure the paint I put on the keyboard stays on the keyboard...
- cloud4197, on 04/09/2008, -1/+1Skank. All skank.
I agree with the commenter on the web page that states you could make the 2nd one b making a kid laugh while he's drinking milkshake - ChanM, on 04/09/2008, -1/+1But will it blend?
- k00pa, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1I think it will
- k00pa, on 04/09/2008, -5/+4Why japan is over rated country! Manga is too popular! Argh! No more japan!!
- rip747, on 04/09/2008, -0/+4"As well as looking different, and neat.."
am i the only that thinks these keyboards are ugly as *****? - mrection, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1"Look Almost Too Good for Typing" ... um... no. Tacky at best... I'd never have one of them on my desk :/
- credence, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Anyone else notice that the site they linked to was absolute *****? Or is there someone out there who really wants a pair of these?
http://www.geekstuff4u.com/product_info.php?manufa ... - reverbhell, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3Classic white or beige keyboards may look boring, but once you've typed on a Model M - there's no going back!
- sagien, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Like in that movie "Hackers" where Dade spray paints his keyboard with a brown cow pattern.
And, somehow, it still works and he can still type like he screws on it.- eviljolly, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1How does one go about "typing like he screws on it"?
- eviljolly, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1How does one go about "typing like he screws on it"?
- KabutheKing, on 04/09/2008, -0/+0oh lol :D that with pink flowers looks like it was just very, dirty, like after a very drunk party :D
- Cancerkitty, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1God those things are just hideous. I'll stick with boring gray and white, thank you.
- ubuntu710, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1keyboards are so ugly i wouldnt touch it with a 10ft stick
- tikistyle, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1It might just be me, but those keyboards have been hit with the ugly stick.
- sysop073, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3When I first saw the pictures I thought they were showing examples of terrible keyboards to lead into the good looking Japanese-style ones. I kept thinking that as I scrolled down until I hit the end of the article.
- Bodhinature, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1I'm still not giving up Das Keyboard!
- oceanographer, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2Looks like my teeth
- antdude, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Mine are worse. Black/Dark colors. ;)
- ZephyrNinety, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1More like Puerto Rican keyboards
- lidong, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1oh my eyes..
- OneEightHundred, on 04/13/2008, -1/+0Living in Japan, seeing stuff like this isn't uncommon.
