- shaggomatic, on 10/12/2007, -10/+530I actually think this menu is pretty cool. Didn't really have much trouble using it, and enjoy the uniqueness.
- 10001110101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+107I hear you.. Screw Vista/Ubuntu/OSX.. I want my Sci-Fi OS right now!
- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -12/+108if the menu didn't disorient you, try clicking on the bottom left square...that will do it for sure
- stupidStan, on 10/12/2007, -11/+101@lordmetroid
they use Adobe Flash
Which means you lost your grip on cs-geekiness a while ago, and you are LOSING your grip on English spelling... - MrSarcasm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+83IT'S WEB 3.0!!!11!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71Yeah, when I see 3d rotating website user interfaces, the first thing I think is "Killer Bees."
But seriously, this brings up a major bug with Digg.. logging in with multiple tabs open returns you to the WRONG story in that tab. - SatoriMoment, on 10/12/2007, -5/+64Clearly needs more cowbell.
- cnidog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49This site is art. It's obviously not intended to a utilitarian exercise in practicality

Flash? :P - guinunez, on 10/12/2007, -5/+47 btipling: "3D is technically not possible in Flash, but you can fake it"
Your statements are not actually accurate.
3D is possible on flash, maybe not in a native way, but you can code it by your self. Here is a tutorial on the basics of 3D math (sadly, it is on Spanish):
http://idam.ladei.com.ar/articulo.php?archivo=Flash3D&nombre=Flash%203D&tipo=multi&ver=0
a working example, based on the previous work:
http://www.inka.com.ar/es/campamento_virtual.htm
Here is a more advanced tutorial, this time on English:
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/3dindex.htm
And if you don't like flash, and you are a css/html fan, here are some experiments to make html 3D:
http://idam.ladei.com.ar/Experimentos/HTML3D/
Essentially, all 3D on a computer is fake, since the screen is a 2D device. What you do is to make your brain believe that he is looking is a 3D environment by transforming 3D coordinates into a 2D system - chrisabraham, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40Only unemployed people, art students, or people in "the biz" have the curiosity and time to really appreciate a unique interface like this... that is why UI rules are so basic.
- Aliasing, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35"incredibly strange 3d rotating .... very disorienting."
Clearly you never worked with a Silicon Graphics GUI. - Hemingrubbish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32the blur is well done
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Okay. Seriously... These last two videos in the top row on the "Media and Algorithms" menu... Man, these really scare me. Watching them loop with these crazy beats & sound effects reminds me a lot of The Ring, except they're actually scary.
Damn... Creative guy. - unclesaamm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Does anyone else think that the programs themselves on the website are cool in their own right?
- TimRogers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Digg Rule #77 - Imitating JS doesn't make you cool.
- lordmetroid, on 10/12/2007, -11/+30I am aware that it is flash... Just never bothered looking into it and how to create anything in it. Hence I thought it would be cool to do so and asked for some helping guidelines of how to do so.
- Sarevok9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Only if i can use my optic nerve as a mouse.
- daveheinzel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27Cool in concept, but not very practical. Reminds me of 5 years ago when everyone was making their own flash-based navigation systems. They looked awesome, but you had to spend so much time just figuring out what you can click before actually getting anywhere.
- cantankerous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Holy blast from the reality engine past!
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22The positioning of the letters around each other is three dimensional as long as the cursor is in the middle of the screen, if you move toward the edges of your screen the position is kind of random. The actual letters however are not 3D, they are always facing you - 3D is technically not possible in Flash, but you can fake it. The fade out effect on the letters is pretty cool too, I imagine that was done with a class, of which each letter is an instance and there is some kind of 'distance from screen' calculated based on where the cursor is that transforms the letter by increment from a letter into a blob.
Very cool and original, and moves smoothly without eating a lot of CPU. - b3mus3d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17booo. If he doesn't want you to have the source code, don't just take it anyway.
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16The trick is to the log in to the last tab you opened. Then simply hit refresh on all the un-logged in tabs to stay at that story.
- phoenixrip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15That is spectacular!!
And I find it quite easy and enjoyable to use.
(I don't think I'v ever described a 'menu' as enjoyable before!) - PRlME, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13@ guinunez
3D in flash is possible (it was not for the last 10 years)
Go to http://blog.papervision3d.org/
its the first example of true 3D in flash. - geoken, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20"I am aware that it is flash... Just never bothered looking into it and how to create anything in it. Hence I thought it would be cool to do so and asked for some helping guidelines of how to do so."
If you've never used flash it would be pretty much impossible to explain how to do this. You would have to read and understand a beginner flash book before you could even understand the concepts used to make that. - cantankerous, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Jeepers man, you forgot drop out coffee house poets.
- rsalsman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Digg Rule #78 - Mistaking JS for Flash code makes you look like an idiot.
- meridianknight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"where can i download his music? :)"
"He uses layered video and creepy sound effects to establish something of a cynical view at human life."
"booo. If he doesn't want you to have the source code, don't just take it anyway."
"did he do the music samples himself? if not, I'd love to know where they're from"
"Damn... Creative guy."
"he has a first person view of a male engaged in doggie style.. wow.. i am impressed!"
"It's a chick behind it all."
It's interesting that everyone assumes it a guy. I thought it would be interesting if it wasn't, but the contact name is Stephane, not Stephanie. - rarun98, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20wow that was nice, now all we need to see, is someone do that for an OS.
- macmankev, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Yum! Mystery meat!
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Great site. Too bad I didn't get a single damn thing out of it except some scratchy foreign techo songs. Are they selling something? Giving something away? Heralding the coming of the Messiah?
- crohno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6am i the only person that don't really like it?
- thesixthdesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's cool .. but honestly not cool enough to be the top on Digg ..
- fawker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i would suggest you check out the looping housewife duties and I challenge you not to see the looping pornography.. it appears that in between 50 and 60's reels he has a first person view of a male engaged in doggie style.. wow.. i am impressed!
- drewdvorak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Feels a lot like minority report. I like it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is sweet. The blur/focus effect sells it. Reminds of playing the Homeworld series of games for some weird reason!
- roinur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5where can i download his music? :)
- meefman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It wasn't disorienting at all. It was rather beautiful and original. Kudos.
- M0b1u5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Interesting but stupid.
Mystery Meat navigation will NEVER be acceptable. - chowderdick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks awesome, but... content?
- grimjestor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3how in bloody thunderation can this ridiculous site bring so many comments?
**edit: ooh, i get it now. hypnotistic.... hehe. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Web 3.0 just got leaked!
- memoBug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Maybe screenvader.com needs a three-D 404 Page, too?
- Peynis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I love them
did he do the music samples himself?
if not, I'd love to know where they're from - xxdesmus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Remarkably useless UI. It's pretty, but entirely pointless in terms of accessibility.
- MinisterOrange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those picture generators are sweet. It's like the computer actually is creating the art with a little help from the artist/programmer. Computers as artists...scary?
- markspace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I find the spherical display model very intuitive and easily used. This is a clever way to get more usable space out of a 2D display.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The first thing I thought of when I saw those videos was, "Damn, I should get high and watch this", especially on the second video. Really cool stuff.
- innov8life, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I though it was a very cool interface, and it wasn't that hard to navigate once you got use to it!
