If I Could Redesign Myspace: Part Deux!
deviantart.com — 255 days ago, I created a concept layout of what I dreamed myspace could be if they hired some decent designers to renovate the slowly dying website. Just yesterday I looked back on that layout and cringed with disgust on how outdated it looked. Who knew 255 days could be so long. So I tried again, and this is what I got.
- 2806 diggs
- digg it
- SiggiSim, on 10/12/2007, -18/+180Beautiful design. I would actually use myspace if it looked something like this.
- SeppukuBLUE, on 10/12/2007, -16/+146The layout's is great yes, but it doesn't hide the fact that MySpace isn't a great website. It's still the giant, ball of a website we've all grown to hate. Sadly, I use it daily.
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -64/+18It's a little *too* Web 2.0'ish for my taste.
- WildTang3nt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+134Sorry to abuse the comment system, but no new design will ever come to Myspace for the simple fact that it's already too far gone to be saved. EVERY Myspace user has some horrible code in their profile page, they all look like *****. Ya... you could fix the main page, but profile pages will always be ***** up unless Myspace goes and resets everyones' styles, which of course is never going to happen. One of those "would-be-nice-if-they-did-it-but-too-bad-they-won't" things unfortunately.
- ScottTheRobot, on 10/12/2007, -49/+126anyone else sick of web 2.0? it's like: insert gradient background here, drop shadow there... it's really not that impressive.
i don't know if creating a better looking myspace.com homepage in photoshop is really worth the self congratulations. - tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -26/+17I prefer your original design better.
- Xageroth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21@WildTang3nt, that's not thinking very creatively. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to say "Keep your profile the way it is now, or convert it to our new fancy smancy profile editor". old profiles use old code. new profiles use new.
- pwill, on 10/12/2007, -22/+5I still wouldn;t use MySpace even if it looked like this. It would still be owned by News Corp, and it would still be full of 14 year old girls that don't know the difference between your and you're. Check out http://www.shuzak.com/ - it's like MySpace, but for geeks. Also, it has a clean design.
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43*Working on a (horribly difficult) Greasemonkey*
- WildTang3nt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17@Xageroth: I had thought of that actually, but come on... this is the Myspace crowd we're talking about here. Do you honestly think any of them will keep the new system once they see it messes up their "perfect" profile? "Liek OMG! this is all messd up screw this! kthxby"
- tatltat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12apparently you need to be a "featured profile" to have a good site.
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=1456240 - carbonetc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+76It's like putting a pretty bow on a pile of dog *****.
- vvargoal, on 10/12/2007, -15/+8Why is there this misconception that rounding frames and adding tabs magically makes a web site better?
Rounded or pointy, myspace is still ugly as sin. - natmaster, on 10/12/2007, -16/+11I hope they hire you - GREAT WORK!
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -17/+12There is no need to redesign Myspace, just use Virb ( http://www.virb.com ) - it's currently in a closed beta stage but the design blows this away, it's features are better than Myspace, the default design is better, customising is 10x easier and better, etc.
It's by the people who made Purevolume (A well designed and very functional site), so imagine a Purevolume version of Myspace and than make it twice as good and you have Virb. - fungifred, on 10/12/2007, -12/+10I will second that Virb recomendation
- MiddleGirth, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5@ iamcitizen,
you're opinion sux. - lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Ok the bloggy web 2.0 look with rounded corners and such is starting to look REALLY old. It wouldn't be so bad if 90% of the contemporary websites didn't use it. Look, it was an improvement at first because it was original and easier on the eyes. Now that it is no longer original, it would be great to move on. Why do all the good websites have to look the same?
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"Beautiful design. I would actually use myspace if it looked something like this."
The front end of a website is one thing, Id hope they redesigned the backend first before they attempted anything this ambitious. I would rather have a site work properly than it look like butter and it not work at all. In Myspace's case it looks like ***** and their network is the worse I've ever used. - vegittoss15, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@TheReport:
Totally agree. - rofflcopterr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i stopped wishing upon a myspace a long time ago and took part in the Virb beta. can't believe i got virb.com/tim! go get one and CSS your heart out!
edit: i see there are fellow virb-ers out there! glad to see we're fellow diggers, too! - TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@rofflcopterr
hey do you have an invite you could possibly send me by chance? I'd like to try it, from what you've said already if you can truley modify the CSS then im all there. - luketabor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, if anyone has a Virb invite that isn't spoken for I'd love to check it out.
- addictedidol, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3This is nowhere near compatible with a site like myspace . And its wayyyy to Web2.0(and that name is SOO retarded) Happy Blue Green Colors that make you ***** yourself with happiness.
Im already waiting for people to get over this crap. - JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Any Virb invites going around then? RubbaJP at hotmail.com
I wouldnt mind looking for an alt to myspace for my circle of friends. Im sick of them asking me for help modifying their profiles, it is a painful mess! - FoxifiedNutjob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1After being bought out buy that enemy traitor, Rupert Murdoch, WHO in their right mind would want MySpace to thrive?!
- andreas1999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OT. Does anyone actually believe spiders won't be able to pick this up, "RubbaJP at hotmail.com"? I'm pretty sure they spammers figured that one out already..
- ucg1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The problem with MySpace isn't just the sucky visual design (and the fact they allow users to make their profile suck even more), its also the incompetent staff they have running the backend of the site. I understand that running a website that is hugely popular is a challenge, but just read this article to discover what kind of clueless morons are running this MySpace: http://www.baselinemag.com/article2/0,1540,2082921,00.asp
- Gdoubleod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the most lacking part of mysapce is the mail. They should have a nice inbox section yahoo mail or something so I can sort my mail and everything now that would make myspace much better
- lobsang, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Here's my proposed new design for myspace
Hi
Turn off the computer, go outside and make some real-life friends. Life's too short and next thing you notice, it's gone.
- habitat2050, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2defectDS, I remember that story from a while back, there was some ***** who tried to criticize your myspace page for looking like ***** but he got your name wrong and then you linked to your actual one. Anyways, I bring this us because i think it was then that i added you as a friend on digg because i intended to add you as a friend on myspace and ask you about your code that you used on your page. Anyways, i dont think i ever did.
- habitat2050, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1so hit me up
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=54443521- joaob, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Mike Davidson
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Very nice. I too would dust off my old and decrepit myspace page if the site looked like this. You could really do something good with this.
- ckohler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+97Looks nice but the problem isn't with the homepage. The problem lies with MySpace giving its vast majority of design-ignorant end users too much creative control over the look of their pages. Every time I visit a MySpace page, I feel like I've stumbled upon a webpage from 1997.
- Exploited, on 10/12/2007, -7/+43I did not mean to reply here.
- chrispen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31Ahh, 1997 the good old days, when no one knew better.
- a0me, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Difficult choice.
1) Eye-bleeding design from the late 90's
or
2) Uninventive and overused Web 2.0 look
By the way does anyone know who exactly started this whole Web 2.0 school of web design? - Promantarius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9a0me: I actually prefer Web 2.0 to the alternative and I am fairly sure that I'm not the only one. Instead of having to learn how to navigate each unique site design you're able to easily pick up each Web 2.0 website as the majority of them conform to simple design ideas. The look is easy to bare and since there's generally a lot of white on the page it's much easier to read and it doesn't carry any sort of depressing looks (too many dark colours on websites with white text get me down for some reason.)
Web 2.0 is a great thing, to me it appears to be about making websites easier to navigate, read and use. The fact that they all look similar is great when you look at the alternative; having to learn how to use each website on the Internet they may have it's own unique way of showing information is really annoying for me in a lot of cases.
I think this post lacks some clarity, but trying to explain all of the advantages I see in web 2.0 would take too long. Suffice to say it's far better than the alternatives available at the moment, so long as the colours are nice and bright it's fantastic :) - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0
- CircleFusion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's really annoying to see people use/abuse the phrase "Web 2.0", especially when they are using it to bitch about something they don't like. I, and many others, realize that it is more of a marketing term than anything. Don't make it more than it actually is. The popularity of various design techniques (curved corners, gradients, pastel colors, logos with the reflective floor look) are more of coincidence with the Web 2.0 label. Those design techniques started becoming more popular before the phrase Web 2.0 was coined. Web 2.0 is not about design techniques. Web 2.0 refers more to the combination of certain technologies to place emphasis on dynamic content, rich interfaces, community driven content, and interaction between different sites.
I know many of you (us) don't like marketing jargon. I can understand that. My uncle (a sales person) was talking to me about websites and some stuff that he had learned recently at some trade shows. He mentioned both Web 2.0 and (oh dear god) Web 3.0 in his speech, where it was obvious to me that he didn't understand what he was talking about. Whenever there are marketing terms that refer to technology, it can create a lot of misunderstanding among salespeople/marketers/business owners. However, this Web 2.0 thing is fueling investment in web technology again, and I think that is a good thing.
I really wish the web wouldn't create bubbles like the real estate market does...but that is what happens in a market where people can make a lot of money really quickly without actually being an expert in that field. - metlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Circlefusion
Well, I do agree with what you say about the jargon and technology part. But do bear in mind that the reason the "Web 2.0" look and feel became popular is because of content management systems and free blogging services. Starting out, the blogging softwares and other similar CMS had a set of standard themes that became popular. As they matured, the interfaces matured, with the new tools that older technologies provided.
And soon thereafter, free blogging services all had a similar, simplistic look and feel (e.g. WordPress, Blogger etc) which just became popularized.
While Web 2.0 isn't _entirely_ about design, the technology while not new just was reinvented to support richer interfaces (XMLHttpRequest was around long before Firefox implemented it, MS had used it in their Outlook software), and became more prevalent. Therefore, the design went hand in hand with the technology.
You're right of course -- it's nothing more than a jargon like the, "Information highway" or whatever crazy metaphor that was popular back during the boom. But the difference now is that now there is an actual change in the way websites are designed, built and interact with the users. That, I think, is what makes it special.
IMHO and all that.
- NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3That's way better than MySpace currently is (not that that's hard).
- matthistory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Looks waaay better, now if only they could speed up the service along with a better interface.
- CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34But oh the cruel irony of having a great homepage and watching 14 year old's butcher it with cheap javascript and CSS hacks...
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22good luck with that javascript.
- jonwheatley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The problem myspace would have if they updated their design now is, like ckohler mentioned, all of the user profile pages. Because myspace give them so much control any sort of design update myspace decide on making will probablly mess up the fast majority of users profile pages.
Still, it's a very nice design.- snipes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really wouldn't mind the revamp. Erasing all the customization on each page isn't really a bad thing to do. Maybe *deleting* all the profile might cause a little discomfort in a few people's minds, but its just a web page.
MySpace would probably be down for like a week though. - stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not fast majority, vast majority.
- snipes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really wouldn't mind the revamp. Erasing all the customization on each page isn't really a bad thing to do. Maybe *deleting* all the profile might cause a little discomfort in a few people's minds, but its just a web page.
- MuteMathSSR, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Brilliant!
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -16/+10Slowly dying? I don't figure the most popular website in the western world could be considered "dying". :/
- omenmedia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40Michael Jackson was once the most popular male pop artist in the world, and now... well, just look at him. Hey MySpace kinda resembles his face!
- IgnatiusJReilly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That seems like weird logic. Something may well be the best in its category (website, in this case) but past its prime, and coming down ("dying").
- dhbanes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?site0=myspace.com&site1=&site2=&site3=&site4=&y=r&z=1&h=300&w=500&range=max&size=Medium&url=myspace.com
!= slowly dying - 1ee7sauce, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2He said he didn't think MySpace was dying and he got dugg down to -2.
Makes perfect sense.
- MondayJBlack, on 10/12/2007, -18/+13Nice, but does fall into the trap of generic web 2.0 design - gradients, rounded corners, etc. All websites are starting to look the same.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -12/+60Stop bitching about this web 2.0 crap. Websites are getting prettier, deal with it.
- TonyBuzzan, on 10/12/2007, -19/+13WOW this is great, now it looks like 95% of all web 2.0 sites out there. This guy is cutting edge, cutting edge I tell ya.
- quickgold192, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9I'd have to agree (unpopular opinion, apparently). That design looks like every other new website out there.
- Dathker, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3looks awsome, too bad myspace sucks ass.
- lintsniffer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21It's just stereotypically web 2.0.
If I redesigned myspace, I'd make it actually work without 400 different bugs in it each day.
I'll admit the site does look like it was created back in 95.- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well.. Myspace is made in cold fusion... and NOT great.
I hardly doubt any design could change that.
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well.. Myspace is made in cold fusion... and NOT great.
- dualaudi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0thought you said "decent designers..."
hahha... j/k looks good man, - jonmlm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20of course, rounded corners. obviously what every website redesign needs
- choylesincharge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I want this to happen. I would use myspace in this case.
- Warpling, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18This is why I am on facebook. It may not be as colorful as your amazing concept, but it follows web 2.0 and changing, and advancing ages beyond myspace rapidly.
Did I mention myspaces enless commenting on profiles?- choylesincharge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4exactly. if only facebook could support the bands that use myspace.
- shad0w, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The music is the most annoying part of myspace. Just because you think the music is good, doesn't mean that I want to here it. If I'm listening to music, I hate going to a myspace page and having some gansta rap ***** shoved in my face.
- stillasleep00, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Even your "outdated" older layout would be a huge step up from their current situation
- kixxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1actually, I like the first redesign better than this one. They're similar, but I like where the other one is going.
- CezaryBlazej, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Would be interesting if Myspace to see this..
- tatltat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i should be able to change my colors, backgrounds etc. through myspace, not by spending all my time searching for layouts. that is an absolute joke.
- breakpointhalo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Looks great and follows the general "Web 2.0" look. If only they could work with newer technologies and limit what users are allowed to edit. Perhaps adding hundreds(?) of different page themes would keep user's pages highly individual. I doubt this type of change would be possible without any personal information loss(not that this would be a problem) as it is often buried in CSS.
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone got a link to his original concept?
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He links to it himself.
- kryptocaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/33943638/
i think thats it... - benger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/33943638/
(click for full view)
EDIT: got beat to it :)
- kryptocaine, on 10/12/2007, -35/+0http://www.myspace.com/51022573 is mine, and its not covered with crap code, just cleaned up.
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Your profile is private. Genius.
- doubleblack, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1ROFFLES!
- PureHeretic, on 10/12/2007, -23/+1i like the old design as well, you should submit this to myspace somehow :)
btw
http://www.myspace.com/EviLSiX- duzytata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16If I have to highlight text to read it I close out of the page and move on.
- SteveRogers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Your MySpace is a perfect example of how, no matter how good you make the site look, people will ***** it up to no end in an attempt to be unique.
- trendsetter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1the design is organized but its not so unique......if they consider updating their design, i'm sorry to say this but it definitely won't be yours....
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3I hate everything MySpace...i hate how slow it is, how un-customizable it is, how it attracts 13 yr old emos and 40 yr old sexual predators, and how you can spend hours on it and accomplish nothing(at least in WoW you get a level or an item or something)
But, it's like crack to me and I can't quit...
Maybe make the profile section of Digg like this? that would be freaking sweet....- clockworkORANGE, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1uncustomizable? you can do a lotttt of things with myspace, and CSS and DIV.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I mean customize within myspace, change stuff around through a menu system...I don't want to spend hours finding crappy pre-made themes, and I'm far too lazy to make my own...
- PureHeretic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@D3koy
I hate how people still make fun of a dead subculture from the 80's, grow up and choke on that 40 year old predator :D - thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@clockworkORANGE
you right css isn't hard it is easy as hell
for example, look at my page, i'm a ***** noob at css and i still made it look ok
http://www.myspace.com/33073138
- chubbsdeluxe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The major gripe I have with myspace is that I have to input html into it to get anything to work, which I think is ***** if you want users to easily create and modify content.
- pronouncable, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Adding content requires actual knowledge? myspace FTL
- thecheat1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I was just thinking today that Myspace could DRASTICALLY use a site redesign.
Good job! - rtimmons, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20I believe I may have a solution...
index.php:
?php header("Location: http://facebook.com/"); ?- clockworkORANGE, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4facebook ftw.
- dotdan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5However, that would only output text on MySpace's servers.
- pronouncable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4These MySpace stories bring out the best in people.
/isafad - PureHeretic, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Lol @ Facebook
- dustinl4m3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Current myspace has no doctype and renders in quirks mode. Good luck...
- ChimeraHero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Its not difficult to redesign your page for myspace. I took about an hour and put this together earlier this month.
www.myspace.com/hiiro
As for the main page, its intolerable. But a lot of things about myspace are intolerable - Needs more than a face lift to stay alive.- duzytata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I like that, it's slick. My coding abilities don't go beyond modifying code I get from a profile site. I wish I had the time to learn how to design a page like that.
- MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, that's awesome!
I've messed around with the idea of totally changing my MySpace page like that... but I give up hope after a while. I just end up with simple changes instead.
Could you post a tutorial or examples on how to start? I know the basic CSS, but for all the floats and placement and stuff, I give up.
I can make anything in Photoshop... I just can't get it all lined up on the MySpace profile. - rchtr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2duzytata: You clearly do. Way to waste time on Digg that you could have spent learning whatever.
- duzytata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6rchtr, aside from dedicating 30 hours a week for homework and taking 21 credit hours a semester for Pharmacy School, I'm lucky if I have fifteen minutes to take a break and check up on Digg let alone learn HTML and CSS. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a report to finish.
- Tandaemonium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's not bad man. I like it.
Here's mine: http://myspace.com/reynes
It took some nasty ugly coding on top of myspace's existing ugly. I too am a hypocrite who hates so many myspace users designs, let alone the actual myspace default design but still went ahead and did it myself, though I did try to retain the original layout intuitively in the sense of where your eyes go on a myspace user's site when you're looking for something specific. - akinder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"his profile does not support the Internet Explorer browser. Please choose a different browser. You may download one of the supported browsers here:"
Browser lockout, no thanks. - unfinite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I cheated. Can anyone figure out how?
http://www.myspace.com/unfinite - AlanOrozco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@unfinite: Yeap. http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/1508/fadestripexo8.gif
- doubleblack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Now may I suggest making a "prototype" Myspace Profile design, and make it in CSS code or something...so we can actually use it?
- WalkerBurgin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Facebook. Enough said.
- rory3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Yes.
- NatalieMac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I have to tell you ... MySpace seems determined to hold on to their god-awful design.
I live mere miles from their office and me and several others I know who are excellent designers or programmers have applied for the "design" and "programmer" positions they are constantly advertising on monster, and none of us has even gotten an interview.
My programmer friend told the MySpace person who called to chat to her that she was interested in working with more "ajax-style" applications, and he had no idea what she was talking about and said he'd call her back after talking to rest of the programming team. Yeah, she never heard from them again. - ishuta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I agree that Myspace needs to clean its layout up a hell of a lot, but this is just... horrible. Cliched in every way.
- rory3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah... That design is just myspace/web2.0. It's like I've seen it before, but haven't...
- MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I agree with everyone here... MySpace isn't ugly on it's home page... it's the USERS who completely ***** up their own pages.
I check MySpace every few days or so, to check messages and stuff. It's not that bad.
BUT, as soon as I click on a friend to send them a comment... BAM, I'm hit with multiple songs and/or videos, glittery graphics, mile-long surveys that shove their comments a mile below... etc.
Facebook did it right... all the same networking features of MySpace... messaging, photos, etc... but they kept the interface clean and un-customizable. Bland? Maybe... but it gets the job done well.
MySpace doesn't need a facelift... they need to stop letting their users pretend to be designers. :)- jayfarer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No. It's ugly on it's homepage.
Not as bad as it's users, but look at it. It's an old mess. Tiny links everywhere, every other box being an ad of some sort, very plain imagery. It only gets worse when you log in. Navigating for the first time shouldn't take so long to figure out. - MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0> "No. It's ugly on it's homepage."
True, but I'm only on the homepage for a second before I log in. Then I go straight to my inbox.
One change I'd love to see is moving the "My Mail" box to the top of the page. I have to scroll halfway down the page to get to the stuff I actually use. I know why they do that... so you have to see more ads on your way down...

- moudig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8To improve MySpace they can do the following things:
- ban auto-playing music and video
- ban custom template - colors and background image
And maybe a few other bans.- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At first I thought you were listing some unknown features you can toggle in preferences. I went looking for them, but then reread you comment and realized you were just wishfully thinking. :(
- lhnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can already ban auto-playing music.
Custom templates for the technical user are the best thing about myspace? If you remove them there is less of a distinction between intelligent geek and stupid 13-year-old girl.
- elbxmatatan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Myspace at 6-8pm pisses me off! can't even load my homepage.
- AlfaWolph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Looks good though a little too 2.0. It's heaps better than the Ghett.O thing they currently have going on, though.
- kamikazicondon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1omg i wish it looked like that
- sodakproud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have to admit that myspace looks like crap, but basicly you've created digg with myspace writen over it.
- threepop, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I am a very experienced Flash scripter and I'm all for a redesign of MySpace. Funny thing, tho. I agree that it's the users who screw up their own pages. My profile page is still created within the simple parameters of the site's design "engine" and it runs just fine. The framework may appear outdated to Digg users, who by default are more aware of leading edge technology, but it is not outdated to most people who use the web. If you don't like MySpace, leave. But you'll be throwing away the chance to use the most pervasive networking tool on the web for the sake of being a Web 2.0 or design snob. MySpace is an economy of scale. What you lose in design beauty and form is more than made up for in raw exposure value.
Also, MySpace is far from being a "dying" site. It's only reaching the true mainstream now. Facebook is still a site for those "in the know" or those who strive to be "cool" at the expense of making a true impact. I guess you just have to decide what you're really using a social networking site for. MySpace is still king (and will remain so for quite a while) for reaching the widest user base.- BlinderBomber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Facebook is for people in the know? Maybe it's for people with a college education and a sense of style.
- Domestiques, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1the users, the real users, my daughter, her mates do not give a ***** about what some deviantart kid thinks about the design of myspace, they care about bulletins and code they can usethemselves.
- jfoun3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this isn't a HUGE update from what it looks like now, but it is something. kudos for Ur effort, but i still hate and loathe myspace
- Nextrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We all know MySpace needs a face lift, and I think your an excellent person to hire for their design team. Put personally I think the design has too many elements taken from other popular web 2.0 site designs. The internal elements I feel are simplistic and logically places, but the outer shell need some tweaking. I hate sites with curve edges that are used too much like it is the next best thing for site designs. I think the advertisement placement need to be redesigned on this design as the ad revenue is really what keeps MySpace in business. For instance the section where it states "Meet your Friends' Friends", this would be an excellent place for an animated flash rotation script showing off many top promos under the site. The side column for the Google Ads table does not do justice as it pops out too much. I think we are at time where we must be smarter with advertisements, and actually let them blend into the site epically when they are text ads.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Not enough in-your-face ads.
