- Waldens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Woh, its going to take me a while to get through that list.
- kolofon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uhh, please make a .zip for me. :).
- goldcents, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol :-)
- Thoreau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great article, I do pre-press and I always get the dumbest font questions from people. This will be a good article to refer people too. I was expecting this to be pretty much just the list, but there is alot of god info too. Definite digg!
- homewardbound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I run into the same problem of people not getting font licensing. Great Digg
- prepress, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Huge list and awesome article
Diggity Digg dugg Diggity Dooooo - Pas3n7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0175 of which look almost exactly the same. Why do people get so into fonts? They don't add much functionality and can make your system load slowly.
- burndive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Running with too many fonts ties up system resources. You should only add fonts that you know you are going to use. One problem with fancy fonts these days is that they're useless on the Internet unless your audience has them.
They can be nice for creating printed fliers and such, provided you print the original document yourself, or somehow embed it into the document (PDF might allow for this), but be careful unless you want to slow your system to a crawl.
Digg uses CAPTCHA now? - energyblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0dafont.com thats what i use.
- rhyno2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Start with www.dafont.com, and work your way out from there.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"...Running with too many fonts ties up system resources. ..."
He doesnt know about the 3 sea shells?
Jesus.
Just keep your non-system fonts in a SEPERATE folder called EXTRA FONTS or some such, then you wont have to worry about it. In Winodws 95 or 98. Or ME. You also dont have to worry about it since Windows 2000- IDIOT! - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"...One problem with fancy fonts these days is that they're useless on the Internet unless your audience has them. ..."
Ever hear of embedding? - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ever hear of .gif or even .jpg?
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"...or somehow embed it into the document (PDF might allow for this),..."
Somehow? PDF might? - alexanEmpire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg effect has happened. Does anyone have this site mirrored?
- redrighthand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dammit i was too late before Digg crashed it
- prepress, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The site's owner is trying to get the information onto another server. When she does she will post the link.
- Orangutan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fonts are my life, but unfortunately, the site has been dugg to hell.
i will return! - graphicdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is the font list on another serverrnrnhttp://www.allfreelance.com/freewarefonts.html
- graphicdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is the font list on another server
http://www.allfreelance.com/freewarefonts.html - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is actually spam, over half these sites offer fonts on a timed basis only, or you have to include their link on your document/site or you ahev to pay.
No digg due to misleading title. - D14BL0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting how many of these are actually fonts you'd generally have to pay for. Just with different font titles.
- TheQwe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0These huge lists of huge lists of fonts suck; there's just too much to choose from. Personally, I'd like to see some intelligent reviews of free fonts from someone who knows something about typography, rather than giant lists of fonts you have to root through to find something good.
- graphicdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK guys my server was reset so the site it back up. It isn't a misleading title...all the fonts are free...no payment.
- graphicdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well I like to have a big list of font sites to look through for when I am having designers block. It helps me to look at fonts when I don't know which direction to go next. I know a lot of designers who do that.
- graphicdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TheQwe, which fonts sites do you use?
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No mention of Postcardware? About 20 of the sites just go to sets of links of other sites that arent aggregated into free-only.
Postcardware is NOT free.
So, the title IS misleading. Not ALL of them are TOTALLY free.
Kind of Lame, but still dugg. - graphicdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thank you Battybattybatt (love that name). They don't go to postcard design sites...some of them have tricky links that go to that stupid pc fonts or mac fonts sites - but every single one of these sites (unless I made a mistake) have fonts on the site. You might have by accident clicked on a deceptive link. I have trained myself to not even see 'pc fonts' or 'mac fonts' because I despise both of those sites. They are 'postcard' sites as you called them. If you see one of those types of sites, please let me know and I will take it down. I spent about 2 weeks finding all of those links...I was very careful. Thanks.
- clsmyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Since I work in Linux all day (xterm), I am occasionally on the lookout for good, clean monospace (constant/fixed width) fonts. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good source of those?
- jj555298, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fonts=slow slow slow as a few diggers have alerady noted, though I do use different fonts for projects i delete them when I'm done. :)
- GeneHACKman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Cool thanks. I don't know what I would've done without this. I mean, you'd think there would be, but it's a shame that there's no site you can go to that will run a search of websites for you based on whatever you type in the search bar....
Oh, wait, nevermind. - TheQwe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0graphicdesign: I haven't found a useful one yet.
clsmyth: I like "neep": http://www.jmknoble.net/fonts/
I use it for xterm and gvim. very readable, even at tiny point sizes on a 1920x1200 display. - helfon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0First random 3 sites I looked at wanted money to buy the fonts. This is spam and people are digging it.
- graphicdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't see How the first 3 sites are sites that want money. The font site that I use more than any other font site on the net and I know for a fact that it is free. For the 2nd site, 1001 Fonts, You go to the right bar, click on the fonts and most of the fonts say 'Freeware' under them. They are free. For the 3rd site, 2200Fonts, You click on the Alphabet Letters at the top of the page, and it takes you to the free fonts. These are all sites that contain free fonts....some sites contain fonts that you need to pay for, but most don't. You have to be vigilent to make sure that what you are looking at is free. That is also why I say within the article, to make sure that I haven't made any mistakes and to be careful to make sure to check to make sure of usage rights.
- graphicdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0excuse me for the typos above...it is 2:30 am....I will rewrite it without the typos

I hope that this time I didn't make any typos, sorry, I need to get to bed. - Keir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think 200 free font sites is a bit excessive. I mean about 80-90% of the fonts on the sites are all going to be the same. Still, I guess for those who know of only a couple of sites, I'll digg it :)
- jeolmeun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What other site do you need besides dafont.com which allows you to preview the fonts with text you want?
