- 471776, on 05/20/2009, -1/+45Why can't people use correct grammar? It's not that hard.
- DecoyQ, on 05/20/2009, -1/+38web 2.0 is sooooo 2006 *sigh*
- serif69, on 05/20/2009, -3/+31I can't wait for the promised follow-up tutorial that explains how Photoshop slices are a great way of doing web design.
/s - kierucom, on 05/20/2009, -1/+26*sigh* Not another 960 grid plug...
- motionblur, on 05/20/2009, -1/+22Flexible layouts were okay a few years ago, but with the advent of wide screen monitors, you end up getting some undesirable effects with text stretching too wide. That's why most websites have moved to a standard 960px wide layout.
- nourayehia, on 05/20/2009, -3/+22I am not a big fan of many "web 2.0" designs out there but hey, this tutorial had some really nice effects and good taste.
- DecoyQ, on 05/20/2009, -4/+22because you look like a moron trying to make sense.
- gamerbambi, on 05/20/2009, -2/+18Without clicking the article I am guessing is just abuse of Photoshop's Bevel Emboss, Gradient tool, and rectangles with round corners
- FACT, on 05/21/2009, -4/+17Web 2.0? Come on this is 2009. May I present: WEB 3.0 http://www.sharperfx.com/kkmime/index13.htm
- thegrizz51, on 05/20/2009, -2/+15Anyone notice that at the bottom is says "Need us say more" ??? Shouldn't that be "need we say more"????
- jaygeeze, on 05/20/2009, -0/+8Definitely. 960 grid is boring and rigid. If you want to use the grid at least create your own sizes and spacing.
- crimson117, on 05/20/2009, -4/+12How is this in any way "Web 2.0"? Where's the ajax? Where's the social networking? Where's the user-generated content?
- FortyCaliber, on 05/20/2009, -1/+9kierucom, clearly you misread the article.
The grid is 960px. 990 is all wrong.
990's the key number here. Think about it. 990-Elevens. 990 doors. 990, man, that's the number. 990 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby.
It's 960 or nothing. - solid12345, on 05/20/2009, -6/+13Yeah because all good websites should have no images and no style and be flat, white, and in a wordpress format.
- kierucom, on 05/20/2009, -2/+9See, you are confusing 'design' Web 2.0 and 'function' Web 2.0. In terms of web design, Web 2.0 is all about the big text, large white space, and use of colors and gradients with perhaps too much of a leaning towards pastels.
In terms of web development, Web 2.0 is all about mash-ups, AJAX-powered anything and user-generated content. - AmazingA, on 05/20/2009, -0/+7What tipped you off- the thumbnail or the definition of "web 2.0 style"?
- jemka, on 05/20/2009, -0/+7@gitargr8,
Yeah, blame the reader.
Jsut bceuase you can raed tihs deos not maen it's rihgt. - Johnglave, on 05/20/2009, -5/+11Why can't people use flexible layouts? There easy to make.......
- JBregard, on 05/20/2009, -0/+6And you would be right
- TM22, on 05/21/2009, -0/+5/seizure.
- woofers07, on 05/21/2009, -0/+5Enjoy explaining your non 960px grid to your client that's paying you/your agency $50,000-$100,000 for a new site, but I do agree it's stale and boring.
- gamerbambi, on 05/20/2009, -0/+5the term "web 2.0"
- rodneykeeling, on 05/20/2009, -0/+5I'd digg this if it came about 2 years ago.
- inactive, on 05/20/2009, -0/+5Web 2.0 = rounded corners
- geoken, on 05/20/2009, -0/+4According to Merriam-Webster difficult is a synonym of hard.
- chrrie, on 05/20/2009, -0/+4How exactly do you create the diagonal lines for the background? I'm not really a Photoshop person and I've always wondered how people made that effect.
- kierucom, on 05/20/2009, -2/+6Maybe they'll follow that one up with a 'pro-tip' on using Front Page?
- 7aji, on 05/21/2009, -0/+4I heard 4.0.1 hotfix just came out.
- xyphur, on 05/20/2009, -0/+4@jaygeeze: To prove your comment's correctness, 'police' is both singular as well as plural. An 's' isn't required. :)
- quaunaut, on 05/20/2009, -1/+4Create straight lines down, rotate. Then erase-gradient last.
- chadisawesome, on 05/20/2009, -1/+4ugh, let the font in the navigation breath... jeeze, that looks bad
- Raz0rEdge, on 05/20/2009, -0/+3I was wondering the same thing, it seemed like the author began with VERY specific PS instructions in the beginning and then trailed off to suggest things that should be done without saying how. I guess that's an "exercise left to the reader"..
- mindfeck, on 05/20/2009, -1/+4It pissed me off, and it's a lame tutorial.
- geoken, on 05/20/2009, -0/+3@solid12345
Nobody is saying your site needs to look like google's front page but making a site that's so static you need to redo graphical elements because you added 3 or 4 characters to one of your menu items is amateurish. If your design can't accommodate variances in content doesn't that defeat the purpose? - kierucom, on 05/20/2009, -0/+3http://www.stripegenerator.com/ will do it for you. I generally just use them and save myself the annoyance
- inactive, on 05/20/2009, -0/+3The term "Clean" became as meaningless and overused as the "Web 2.0" thing itself.
- wild, on 05/21/2009, -0/+3Designers design. Programmers program. The world goes well.
Designers try to be programmers, or programmers designers, and we get ***** on a stick. - geoken, on 05/20/2009, -1/+4Web 2.0 = a completely static site where your whole layout is essentially a big jpeg and dynamically adding a new li in the menu or p in the main content area breaks your design. Or at least that's what the article taught me.
- MAGZine, on 05/21/2009, -0/+3That's a pretty ***** "web 2.0" design.
- EliteByDesign, on 05/20/2009, -1/+4Sweet Jesus how the hell did this make the fp?
- FortyCaliber, on 05/20/2009, -0/+3Serve it up nice like Giada does.
Also, her boobs. - crosquillas, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2i'm afraid she just blue herself
- takatoo, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2web 2.0?
seriously? - Philbert, on 05/20/2009, -0/+2The way I follow tutorials of any sort, is not to do the tutorial but to read it through and take techniques from it to use it my own work. Just because this one explains how to make a site, doesn't mean you have to make that site. Suppose I didn't know how to make separators like in Step 8. I don't have to make that entire button, but I can learn the separator technique.
- Nosyn, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2@jaygeeze,
Correction: "grammar Nazis!" - BoneStamp, on 06/08/2009, -0/+2You can also use the digg button. Supposedly, this is a social bookmarking website... so you digg something and it becomes one of your "bookmarks".
- 7aji, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2with pleasure!
- DeathfireD, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2I've already upgraded to web 4.0.
- techdever, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2because you touch yourself at night
- silentpl, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2that's not even a website.
