- TheProtested, on 10/11/2007, -10/+68that picture of the water ballon exploding is ***** ridiculous, wow.
@ vincenoir
clearly, you know nothing about photography... - kevyn, on 10/11/2007, -7/+62wow - some really good photos, and no use of BEST PHOTOS YOU WILL SEE TODAY EVER EVER EVER IN THE WORLD
thank you. - thefat, on 10/11/2007, -5/+40Mirrored Images - http://www.picturebookmarking.com/index.php?/category/81
Just in case. Server still looking healthy. - pusle, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39Good God! That dog looks like it comes straight out of hell! Some excellent photos here I must say, and some funny as well :) Excellent!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+37Ya, the title is awfully misleading. This isn't high-speed photography in the sense that it's shot with very fast shutter speeds -- some are but others are shot with quite slow shutters.
It's an exhibition/competition of photos with a theme of speed.
Some nice work there but not much is AMAZING. - Malcx, on 10/11/2007, -6/+34You know his girlfriend?
- ladofdestiny, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29what's the go with the last one? that's not amazing at all.
- themoose, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28How is the viagra one high-speed?
- catalysis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Made me realize how much I suck at photography.
- estacado, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20The first one (the dog) reminds me of this: http://www.pandafile.com/uploads/29392097_wtf.jpg
- gregdogum, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14The guy tried way too hard to be funny with those captions.
- inajeep, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12'To shreds you say'
- pascalosti, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13I love the expression on the girl in roller coaster, makes me laugh.
- silverchrysalis, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13cool photos, but the captioning had me nodding vigorously in hopes that the writer would shut up or say something better...
- unclenutzy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+16Cool photos. Could have done without the lame comments underneath each one, though.
- YvesKlein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9A few of these are the opposite of high speed. Some use a slow shutter speed to show movement.
- bredvad, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12My entry:
http://www.crestock.com/blog/photography/contest2007/entry.aspx?id=3362 - Boing, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7They even got one of some Michael Vick dogfighting....nice!
- TheProtested, on 10/11/2007, -9/+15@ VinceNoir
....then i guess that means your just a really ***** photographer, or maybe your just an artistic dick who cant appreciate other peoples work. probably both.
while none of these pictures were necessarily masterpieces and most of them were taken by amateurs, you can still appreciate the effort they put into them, some of these pictures clearly took alot of effort to create and all of them are very well done, and i dont see any of your work posted on here, so maybe you should stop being jealous and start to try something new...or maybe find a career that you dont suck at. - etruscan, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11I don't know why you people are digging VinceNoir down. He makes a very valid point. The picture of the waves is a perfect example... it's actually produced using a very slow shutter speed. When I think "High Speed Photography" I think super fast shutter speeds, freezing the motion. Infering motion is a different thing entirely.
These are all great pictures, no doubt, but the title is misleading, and anyone who debates VinceNoir seriously needs a lesson in basic photography. - Uhhh, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I found this one on CNNSI yesterday. I think it's great.
http://i.cnn.net/si/multimedia/photo_gallery/0706/gallery.most.fun.to.watch/images/tomlinson.jpg - beerbarron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Some incredible photography there, and some mediocre, the dogs are fantastic as well as the waterbaloon, the one of the viagra car, is a nice photo, but no real skill was required. Loved the one of the bloak in the boat, nicely framed to give the impression he's about to land on the sand.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7These are good but i found some really high speed pictures of bullets and stuff getting shot at http://pileofphotos.com/view/20/High-speed-bullet-photography
- rhodin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Typically in studio shots, water isn't actually used. It isn't viscous enough for most effects. Those cold cans of pop you see in Coke or Pepsi ads? That's not water either, it's glycerin. Relatively easy to find and works wonders, so that'd be my guess (as an actual photographer).
Cheers. - bjarkebech, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I want hi-res versions of them.
- dbr_onix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Your.. against cropping?
I can understand the dislike of the over-contrasted/saturated "HDR" look, but.. cropping? - zonk3r, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5And like a flash... the server is gone.

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.819 - CZzyzx41, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3My guess for this, as well as the water balloon was setting up the shot, then using burst mode and doing this over and over and over for hours until you get the perfect one. I've seen a lot of photography like this. There's some skill in getting the color and lighting correct and setting up the right composition on the object. After that, it's persistence and dumb luck. Good photos, surely but not quite as hard as it looks. Just requires a little skill and a lot of patience.
- Thumpster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Kinda sad that the contest will be won by somebody pandering to his Internet buddies looking to sway the vote.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/leviathor/529795367/
It's a damn fine photo, but not the best "speed demon" shot for sure. And certainly not by a 30 vote margin.
There are much more deserving photos in the pool. - ungamedplayer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I think you'll find that the term photo "chopping" was the the original term used by people who were paid to edit photos for magazines. The software "photo shop" replaced this term due to the popularity of the software.
These people did more than just "crop" the image, quite often they'd print the image out large scale, edit it with a real airbrush, then take another photo of the original (smell the quality loss!), then use that new photo.
The original poster is correct in his terminology, he/she might be late.. but is correct. - PhilH, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Not every photo has to be "HDR" to look good. What's wrong with a normal image? Silhouettes can look good!
I would also like to see this as a wallpaper. - JustLaNavigator, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6So does anyone have any ideas as to how the glass with water was achieved?
- robalesi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The Water Balloon FTW!
- vroom101, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The "Speedy burst water balloon" by pajohnson is a WOW! shot. Check out the Photron video of a water ballon being popped by an X-acto knife: http://www.photron.com/gallery/gallery.cfm , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdMIsCF_7p0
"Flying Free" by vikasmal...there's just something nice about a sunset-ish/sunrise-ish shot of a mosque. See photo #17 at http://chamorrobible.org/gpw/gpw-200702.htm
"Snap frozen" rbphoto is another WOW! photo...how was the shot setup, or was this a right-time, right-place, only-one-shot moment? Check out the "Milk Meets Coffee" gallery: http://www.pbase.com/daria90/milk_meets_coffee_splashes - jdpalite, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Flying Free by vikasmal
This photo of a sixteenth century mosque really captures the beauty of time, architecture and nature. As one of the comments said, with another shot metered for the birds it could've made an amazing HDR composition."
That would require the flying birds to not move while the second exposure was taken. - n8o8, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It was like watching a slideshow on acid at Bob Saget's house...
- grumpyrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Internet Security 101.
Don't let external end users see exception messages and stack traces. You have just told the world you are running SQL Server and .NET2. Redirect exceptions to a log and give the end users a friendly 'Sorry about that, we had a problem. Try later' page. - somnambulator, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@etruscan
He may have been absolutely correct, but the 'tone' of a comment is everything on Digg. If (even if it is unintentional) you come across as a pompous ass then you get dugg down. - skankyBacon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I would kill for a hi-res version of that image. It'd make a fantastic desktop background.
- mV0G7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Anyone else see the minibike racer and think of the Burger King games?
- techsmack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Some aren't quite HIGH speed, but they are some great photos. One photo, the beach with the water is actually a slow speed capture, causing the water to be smooth, and clean, not crisp and lifeless. But equally as much beauty can be found in lower speed shots as higher speed ones.
- martinraul, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow, the three-legged horse shock me bad...
- lexington86, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1mmmmmmmmmm how I love stack traces.......
- banannapeels, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Can anyone explain the clockwork orange caging on the face of the dog?
- irishpunk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1minus the bee one sorry just hate bugs....
- obxjdt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1server crashed......
- cklol, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There are a few good photos there, but the mosque one is heavily manipped or I'm a ***** stapler.
- Animal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I was wondering if anyone else noticed that. Lame indeed.
- GeneralGore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I would hate to be the guy who was taking the picture of the greyhound.
- CColtManM, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I hate any pictures showing dogs fighting, let alone bully breed dogs.
