- cyclo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Little Lulu
- octosam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I love comics. I grew up reading and enjoying them. But unfortunately, the present comics are garish and will give strain to ones eyes with their brilliant color. My favourate comics (of ester years ) are as follows:
Mandrake the magician - Loved each and every issue of it.
Phantom
Flash Gordon
Donald duck
Mickey mouse
Superman
Batman ... Just to name those that come to my mind now. But there were many more that I enjoyed. - theOster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3LOBO!!!
(or Slaine...) - Nightfall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Lobo was great back in the day!
Batman and Green Lantern were also great.
Currently, the comics have taken a sharp downturn to be honest. I was reading them back about 14 years ago and they were great back then. - texpundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"What was your favourite comic book?"
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Eastman and Laird. - RubixCube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I still have all my comics when I was younger. I was a big fan of Marvel and Image comics. There was also those ninja comics my brother and I liked. He was into Ninja Turtles (originals and the ones done by Archie comics) . I was into Zen Intergalatic Ninja. Space alien ninjas for the win.
- texpundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4OH... almost forgot:
Cerebus the Aardvark FTW! - SakuyasLove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Batman and or Robin

- Chicken2nite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1100 Bullets (Vertigo)
Runaways (Marvel)
Ex Machina
Y The Last Man (Vertigo)
The Walking Dead (Image)
I was big into Marvel when I was a kid not too long ago, but fell out of love sometime around the onslaught story arc, right around when I got into magic. Years later when I was a teenager, I happened to pick up a couple issues of 100 Bullets and was blown away. Bloody awesome book if you ask me, and reason enough for DC to be alright in my books (Vertigo is the adult line of DC Comics). Currently they're at issue 77 or so and are intending to end at 100, which should be one hell of a finale.
I really couldn't care less about the DC continuity, although I've still got a closet filled with old Superboy and Lois Lane comics from my Grandmother's house. Those were kinda fun to read, and in some ways less silly than an episode of smallville.
They really should find a way to sell comics online, like they do with ebooks. As of now, I will only buy trade paperbacks, as it's too difficult to track down monthly comics when the store only carries a handful of copies. And plus there's the whole deal with how they're collector's items and also with the amount of space they take up... Trades are just better in so many ways. Ah well, I'm probably ranting to no one. I mean, who comments on a digg story 3 months after it hit?
- skimmas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16This is great. :)
By the way:
These are comics in a compressed archive. For Windows, download the free program CDisplay ( http://www.geocities.com/davidayton/CDisplay ). Or simply rename them (CBR to RAR, CBZ to ZIP) and open with your usual archive program, such as WinRAR or WinZIP. (text from: http://btfaq.com/serve/cache/45.html)- veza, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3kind lame that u need DL a program from geocities.com/

- gr8whitesavage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow, that's great that we all have an opportunity to see these classic books. I know that I otherwise would have never had a chance to see the early episodes of ManBat, Super Boy, etc.
- MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Awesome! Great! :)
Thanks! - zouhair, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Cool
- newbietheatre, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm interested in checking out the Superman issues. I've never read anything from that era and have always been tempted to buy the 'Superman in the Sixties' type collections. Nice to try before I buy, so to speak.
- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Uh, you can "try before you buy" at any bookstore or library carrying DC Archive Editions. Most do carry a sizable collection of them.
- graywave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2uh, no, collections are usually shrinkwrapped

- skamper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13We found a flaw in the Digg system. This should clearly go under the Entertainment section but there is nothing for Comics/Books in that area.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Yes, we do need a comics section in Digg
- variable, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hopefully people will share this collection on bittorrent. There must be a lot of people who would like to have all of these without killing aibq.com's server.
- aluhain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This site is a pretty decent idea, but it could be executed better. There are some books that have only a couple issues available (e.g. Joker, only 9 issues), and others that have a lot (e.g. Green Lantern V2, Justice League of America both have over 200). Despite the fact that they label the books "DC Comics (The Home of Superman)" some of the larger name comics (Superman? Batman?) are conspiculously missing. I'd be a lot more enthused about this site if I was interested older comics that were rather obscure (Inferior Five? Are you kidding me?).
Still, this site will likely get better with time as they collect more issues, just need easier navigation.- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3aluhain, it probably has something to do with copyright issues. Still-running series like Detective Comics (Batman) and Action Comics (Superman) are probably still well-defended by DC, but things like the "Inferior Five" won't be pursued as aggressively
- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Oh, DC pretty vigorously defends all of their IP. Their characters are EVERYTHING to them, even the obscure ones. 52 is proof enough, what with Mr. Mind and the Metal Men popping up.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3aluhain, it probably has something to do with copyright issues. Still-running series like Detective Comics (Batman) and Action Comics (Superman) are probably still well-defended by DC, but things like the "Inferior Five" won't be pursued as aggressively
- jumblesale, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Hope they stop putting huge graphics on the page - still hasn't finished loading on mine :P
Good site with great potential! - McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Or, uh, you can buy the reasonably priced DC Archive Editions and Marvel Essentials. And, you know, actually support the creators and the companies.
- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Or, if you're really cheap, you can get the Showcase Presents... editions in black & white, 500+ pages for around $15.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Pretty cool site, even though I'm not a huge fan of DC superheros (Vertigo, on the other hand, it's like HBO for comics, which is great), and I'm even less of a fan of any comics from the 50s-70s, but its still a nice site
- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5How can you not be a DC comics fan? So many ***** awesome characters, creators and series. Man, go figure that Digg is filled with so many Marvel zombies.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I just don't really like DC. The characters don't really appeal to me. Superman is too clean-cut and perfect. Batman is great, and Dark Knight Returns is an excellent book, but I just can't really get behind the DC universe. Like I said though, I don't hate DC, and in fact I buy tons of their Vertigo titles (Y: The Last Man, Fables, 100 Bullets). But, in terms of superheroes, I think that Marvel has the better ones. No fanboyism here, just personal preference
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2didn't golden age superman have time travel abilities?
- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Silver Age Superman was the one with all the wackiness.
- Chicken2nite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Superboy could do it too. At one point, in order to answer a question on a test regarding the origin of the Cinderella story, he excused himself to the bathroom and proceeded to travel back in time to the 'real' origin of the tale, where it's a fur slipper instead of a glass one, I think in egypt. Anyways, he comes back to the present and writes down his answer, which the teacher marks as wrong since he had nothing to really back up his claims, even after vigorously defending his answer to the teacher. I thought it was kinda funny anyways.
- Armagetto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Blindly saying that one company is better than another is kinda lame. If you're looking at the early 60's to the early 80's, then I'd give the nod to Marvel. However, during the mid to late 80's DC was putting out stuff like The Watchmen and Dark Knight, while Marvel was knee deep in the Jim Shooter era and shovelling out dreck like Secret Wars 2, New Universe and West Coast Avengers. Marvel made some improvements in the 90's but DC still had all the better writers like Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, Mark Millar and Garth Ennis. It wasn't until Marvel hired Joe Quesada that they began to turn things around and attracted some talent finally. See, up until that point, they could make creators some good offers, but they always fell short on the editorial end, often leaving creators feeling burned. For years Marvel had a knack for alienating writers and artists over their hardline editorial policies. In one case, they gave Warren Ellis a greenlight for a mature readers revamp of Satanna, only to reject it based on content. It was for reasons like this that Quesada basically had to beg to get top talent to consider coming back to the house of ideas.
- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'd only give the slight advantage to Marvel from 1960-79, only because they had Jack Kirby longer. Today, though, both companies are producing tons of great books. High-quality writing and fantastic art. It's a new golden age, as far as I'm concerned.
- Armagetto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm a pretty big fan of Kirby's work at DC in the early 70's. His Fourth World stuff is probably the most densely thought out work he ever did. Marvel was pretty much giving him the shaft by the mid to late 70's, putting him on crap titles like 2001.
- geekzapoppin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I hate to be a wet blanket, but don't expect this site to last long. The copyrights on all of these are still very much in effect and Warner Bros. will be on them like a pack of dingos on a baby. Still, it's cool while it lasts. Some nice obscure stuff there.
- tjlsmith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree - lets torrent that quick!!!
- whahaa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i bet you love being a wet blanket
- tjlsmith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree - lets torrent that quick!!!
- wolf202, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12800 is a very small database
- Severious, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3In the comic book world 2800 comics is quite an anemic collection. Large would have been 28,000, and 'Huge' 50,000+. I mean come on there have been at least 2800 X-Men linked comics alone.
- mdoom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What is the legal issue behind offering comics in a digital format?
- matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The same as any media with copyrights attached.
- dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Don't DL comics on bittorrent... The comic book industry already barely squeaks by.
- mdoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've recently heard from a friend about a service in development for legally downloading comic books in a digital format. I think like a pay per download business model. Hopefully things go well for that...I know I would pay a small fee to own older comics that I haven't had a chance to read. I'm sure just getting content is an issue for them.
- hazard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They dont barely squeak by, thats a lie. Comics are more popular than ever, almost as popular as when superman died. More people are going to Comic-Cons than ever before. And with Marvel making a movie for every character, how can they be squeaking by? All the mainstream events IC, Civil War, House of M, 52 are all doing very well so I would say your assumption is outdated.
http://www.newsarama.com/marketreport/june06sales.html
For the first six months of 2006, the Top 300 comics from each month have sold a combined 39.43 million units, an increase of 8% over the 36.55 million copies sold in the period in the previous year. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, I would say that comics are doing really well right now, but that doesn't mean we should just steal ***** as we want to.
I don't buy a lot of music and movies mainly because of the fact that the quality of both of those things are quickly going down the drain. On the other hand, comics are getting better and better every year - g30ph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't see how I'm hurting their bottom line by downloading comics that came out 15 years ago. If someone was scanning and uploading the newest comics like they do with TV and Movies, that would be a different story.
- Chicken2nite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People are scanning and uploading the newest comics, although that's not what this site is about, it does go on, and personally I don't think that's the worst thing in the world. In fact, it can work as a break in the barrier to entry, where people new to a comic can read up on the previous issues and get caught up, and can then be added to the reader base. While it could be argued as to whether they would later start either buying the monthly or buying the trades instead of continuing to download for free, that would be reason enough to offer digital downloads on a payment basis, thus allowing the comics industry to get revenue from a new source. The big problem with that would be with how the DRM would work. While it would be great if they did without it, that's hardly the precedent set by the music and movie industries.
TV shows have apparently seen their ratings go up thanks to people downloading for the same reasons I've said. The average person doesn't like to work a VCR, and they tend to miss the average episode if they were to watch it week in week out. WIth a show like 24 (or a comic telling a story in 6 parts so it could later be collected as a trade paperback) if you were to miss an episode or issue, then the story would make less sense to you. With Comics, unsold issues cost the industry money, while readers who don't read them costing them customers.
- Sillybear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know where to turn, I need to some help from Comic guys... I once had this comic book about this kid who was trained by these walking zebras or horses ... whatever with this weapon called a shiek(sp?) or something like that... he was injured by these protoplasm blobs ... closest thing I had to an acid trip when I was 5.
- Steeple, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1bury
- Aniphx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow, all of these comics are older than I am.
- warcry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1hmmmm well this guys site was a secret from DC/Warner Bros, but thanks to digg this guy could be told to close the site. Get them while you can.
- Bradillac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually, DC have already come out and said that their comic book copyrights don't extend to the internet... that's why Marvel, Dark Horse, and Image all have online comics but DC don't.
- mdoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Do you have a source of this? this interests me...
- hryanl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Site apparently is down. Anyone get a mirror of all the stuff? There's some nice older stuff I'd like to read. Heh.
- monological, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I doubt it is even on there, but my favorite comic at the moment would have to be 'Ex Machina'... its unique, powerful, and incredibly draw and executed. plus it won a few 2005 Eisners. check it out: http://www.machinacomics.com/

- Neumann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If nothing else, thanks for putting the link for the comic reader for Mac, I was looking for one for quite some time.
Comics have been squeaking by for over a decade, and while Marvel and DC may be making good dosh with their liscencing rights, the comics themselves aren't that cost-effective, after publishing and distribution costs, the artists get very little scratch. Not to mention the insane amount of work that goes into it. You have to remember that Marvel and DC are only two publishers and there are boatloads of comic writers. And the number of people attending Comic Con doesn't mean that comics are getting any more popular, many go for the anime, movies, toys, and other offerings... comics have actually been taking a back seat to those for years. The smaller comic creators actually make more money doing comissions and selling original page art than actually selling the books in some cases.
As for legal issues for the older comics, the resold old comics have no money going towards the comic company, but they want to maintain the rights for the republishing rights, the collected novels and so on. And honestly, i don't want archive books of a lot of the crazier, lesser-known titles... I think having the old ones on bad paper with the silly adds and the ruined colour are a ton of fun... unless a comic really tickles my fancy I only need to read one issue (that's part of why I like the Amalgam comics, you didn't have to do any extra reading, really).
I actually scan in a lot of my comics because space in my room is at a premium and I lost half my collection the last time I moved... I want to have a digital archive so I don't have to worry about that. - trimsheenapple, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2For those looking for a torrent try searching at one of the major search sites (Isohunt, torrentspy etc). You'll find a ***** load.
- merrington, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg must have killed it. All I get is "Welcome to VDeck" Site Unavailable.
- anjuan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0While the comic book companies (especially Marvel and DC) are doing well overall (with movies ranging from Spiderman to Catwoman), the ability to get free version of older issues hurts local comic book shops. Why go into a comic book shop and deal with the useless guy behind the counter surfing the internet for porn and the uncool kids playing Dungeons and Dragons when you can just go online and find all the back issues of X-Men you could possibly want? Two local comic book shops within a 10 mile radius of my house closed down within three months of each other, and I think that the online archive of comic books (via web pages, bittorrent, and eDonkey) is precisely why they failed.
- thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish I could find an archive of Heavy Metal Magazine comics. I have been looking forever, and I just don't have time to scan them all.
