- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38now we just need the "jump to conclusions" mat
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21If I had this or the "There is no place like 127.0.0.1" mat it would be stolen in no time... (I live in Silicon Valley)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+26Despite your lame comment, I do agree with most of what you are saying... There should be no reason a user should have four stories on the front page, and especially when they are ones like this, containing no news, alerting others of old information (this has been on ThinkGeek for quite a while), and knock cooler more interesting stories off the front page.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15That's awesome.
Although I wish they had ones that said something more clever / devious than 'Welcome'.
'Hi, Nerd' would be effective. - CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -18/+32Life is unfair... :(
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Dude I seriously do not get it.
Why the ***** are you complaining about the people who submit the content you like to read? You've submitted 3 stories (two of which are complaining btw) vs Cliff's 4,762. If you want your stories, or someone else's stories, to make the front page they need to get submitted. - schadenfreude56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14how bout this?

http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/gear/6806/ - xdefconx, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18Why is this on the front page?
That has been on thinkgeek forever, and I'm sure that anybody who regularily reads digg has been to thinkgeek...a lot. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10kitkatsavvy: Calm down. Seriously.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13There is no place like ~ makes more sense than 'there is no place like localhost'
- davidleeroth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12That's the worst idea I've ever heard of....
I love Office Space :) - MSTK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10First sentence of the page:
"This stylish looking mat is really just the phrase 'welcome' encoded in binary." - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Simple......*Thinks*... iPod Mat! $CHING CHING$
- slack31337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6lol, wow i have seriously heard more intelligent conversations out of my 3 year old. I cannot believe the whining that is on this site. Looks as though Digg is finally hit its pinnacle from here on it'll sound like recess in pre school
- Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh of course, if my uncle from nasa just happens to have the ASCII (or whatever encoding this uses) table memorized.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Frome here on out?...
You must be new here. - mercano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6True, but isn't quite as recognizably geeky.
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Whoa.. lets all Spazz
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Formatting trogdoor, formatting. It's not fun having to look at the page source to get your entire comment.
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5exactly! and suppose your uncle for NASA happens to be their delivery boy?
- agentf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I realized I put way too much effort into that reply....
- agentf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You seem to be under the impression that I am popular, rest assured I am not. Judging by your comments it is obvious why you are not. Sorry for that jab, but when you use my country's name as a derogatory I get... agitated. There are ***** in all nations in this world. As we explore this universe we will undoubtedly find more *****.
As for hoping for a nuclear solution to digg's unfairness, and there is an unfairness, seems too harsh and well.. childish. I suggest not worrying about digg so much.. having stories on the front page does not help one get laid or do anything worthwhile.
I leave you with some advice. Life is unfair because everyone tries to make thier own life fair. Deal with it - ryan7107, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Hey ThinkGeek, ***** you. Who says UPS drivers are techo-illiterate dullards? They drive trucks, they could never recognize a binary pattern and assume it says "Welcome" huh?
- exobyte, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Just seems like a last warning to whatever girl some nerd convinces to come back to his place. (boy for the gay nerds)
- lsdeath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wish I could come with an idea to sell a cheap mat for $40.
- agentf, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@kitkatsavvy:
Look at CLIFFosakaJAPAN's "friends": kevinrose, diggnation, dirtyfratboy, supernova17. All heavy umm... diggers. Your "friends" 1. There is a "in-crowd" on digg just like highschool. You want stories on the frontpage... be kevinrose's fan-boy. That is the game.
Take it from someone too antisocial for a "social" website.
edit: I know way too many quotes... - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I recall an episode of Max Headroom with the young genius kid talking to one of his classmates in binary, using his index finger for 1 and making a half-closed fist for 0.
- jonnyfatman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If I understand the concept of Digg correctly, if people like an article, it will make it to the front page. It's not like this person is 'hogging' the front page, he just happens to have stumbled across articles that others find interesting.
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and the ipod mat would play music when you turn the pressure sensitive spinner-thingy in the middle. and the door would have a video setup so videos could be played... talk about the most popular house on the block.
- robertc1964, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How about, "If you can read this, you are a nerd."
Seriously, though, I'm buying one of those. - stuffhappens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Since my PERL is non-existent:
10 GET (OUT_MORE) - pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I know I spend my time memorizing all the ASCII codes.
- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@jonnyfatman; it *is* possible to abuse the system through various means. Simplest method; bunch of friends voting for each other's stories.
This story is especially lame, BTW; the mat has been around for ages, and it's just a plug for flatter-nerds-into-thinking-buying-this-crap-makes-them-smart site ThinkGeek.
For more ranting about ThinkGeek, see my comment in this thread:- http://digg.com/movies/Wil_Wheaton_s_Geek_In_Review_The_Real_Revenge_of_the_Nerds - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+299999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999
- TheWedge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, you did.
- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@agentf; Have you ever noticed that no-one ever says "It's not fair!!!!" when the unfairness is in their favour? (^_^)
- Madh2orat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it really that much? I'd rather make something similar for less, even though it probably wouldnt last as long.

Let's all just communicate painfully slow with 2 flashcards with a 1 and 0 and pat ourselves on our backs for being so cool. We'll think in English but communicate with binary! Yeah! Look at us big boys! Yeah!
Digg is turning into something else now, and I'm sure this will be buried, but maybe people should reeeeeeaaaally think about what they are submitting. meh. - TheWedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you do work in assembly (which believe it or not is still useful for making programs that need to be really optimized for speed) then it would still be necessary to think in binary occasionally.
- stuffhappens, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Go easy on Digg - it gives 13 year old geeks street cred for posting ages-old stuff on a popular Web site and letting them think they are ace journalists.
What's not to like? - smcpeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm. I would have had it start 010 instead of 011 if I were doing this message, but whatever...

- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Depends what you define as "fair". Some people would say that if Cliff had nothing better to do than sit in his basement, search for numerous stories of questionable interest and post them for hours on end, in addition to persuading groups of equally sad Dorito and Coke-guzzling sweaty nerds to vote his stories up (*), then it's only fair he gets his reward for the "effort" put in.
Personally, I don't think "fair" is relevant; I just don't like the fact that the Digg system (which is a means, not an end, for most of us) can be gamed by a basement-dwelling loser.
(*) What do they stand to gain? Mutual digging-up of each others stories, or did you send naked pictures of yourself to the owners of a chubby teens fetish website in return for the favour? - evilrobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+101101000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01101111 00100000 01101110 01100101 01110010 01100100 00100001
