- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11thanks. it's still not nearly as good as wordpress though.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Remember, this is Google. "Beta" roughly translated means "the first four years of the product's release".
- wtfdan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9In regards to my post above, I suppose I should have read a bit deeper here:
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/08/new-blogger.html
"Blogger moves to Google Accounts, so your account will be more secure and you don't have to remember extra credentials. You'll be able to migrate your Blogger account soon, or you can create a new blog from your Google Account.
The new Blogger version will be available as invitation-only for the moment. The Blogger in beta program is going to start out small, so only a low percentage of people who log in to Blogger will see the option to switch over. If you're one of them, you'll see a blue box in the sidebar of your dashboard highlighting the new Blogger in beta."
Anybody wanna work on finding that cookie? - ionut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7More about the features and detailed screenshots:
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/08/new-blogger.html - warmcat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Drag and drop blog layout, in your browser: that is cool. Standards-compliant, open protocol, platform agnostic, available from any Internet connected PC: cool. Windows-only Windows app for blogging from Microsoft yesterday: 1990s.
- geminem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5from the article: "Posts can now be tagged; no more workarounds for Blogger posts to appear in tag search engines."
finally! it's inconvenient for me to have a blog with so many posts without tags to categorize them. - mikeabundo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I want domain mapping back.
- Kamino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Now all they have to do is support domains and offer an option to hide that ugly navbar without CSS hacks.
- siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5All of these new features from Blogger, Comes no where close to Vox.com from Six Apart
- DIGGerPhelpsND, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7It doesn't sound like much of an improvement, except for blogs with more than one author. Although, I must admit, it'll be nice not having to wait for my entire blog to publish when I'm only adding a short post.
Anyways, the best gets a little better. - razei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just upgraded mine, and it messed up my custom template a bit, because now you apparently can't hack out the annoying header with a little css positioning, but whatever. :P
- noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Just four?
- coconutice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4mayb only 2-3...wordpress is still the best
- hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How about some better comment moderation features.
- SimonDonkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://beta.blogger.com/signup.g :)
"If you can't wait, you can create a new account on the beta now and make a new blog to test out the new features. Because the new Blogger uses Google Accounts, you can use your existing Google login, or create a new one. (Later, you'll be able to merge your current and beta accounts, and have all your blogs in one place.)" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this is nice suprise.
:) - amire80, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It's about time.
Tags, finally. Instant publishing is finally instant.
To all the WordPress lovers - these were the only technical advantage that WP had until now, and now Blogger is going to have them. And its default templates have nicer gradient colors. But except that i find Blogger better; in particular, Blogger tags are much more elegant than PHP for manual template editing.
One really good thing about WP, though, is that it's pure Free Software (GPL) and you can install your own server. Being dependent on a proprietary server for publishing is not fun.
(p-p-p-plug: http://aharoni.blogspot.com/ ) - manuelhp42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My two cents so far:
http://manuelhp42.blogspot.com/2006/08/blogger-upgrade-under-way-finally.html - karthikraman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wordpress is light years ahead... unless this tagging can really give a fight!
- dreamflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've written a tutorial which will show you how to add labels to your old posts without loosing your PRE-BETA TEMPLATE:
http://basangpanaginip.blogspot.com/2006/08/how-to-add-categories-to-your-sidebar.html
Hope you like it. - hanso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've just tested it. Google is on the right way with these changes
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think Blogger is down right now...
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was just wondering today when Blogger was going to undergo an update. I'm glad I found this! Blogger was lagging behind newer services such as Vox.
- DrewClayton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i can't autopost to my blog from digg or youtube anymore, i hope this gets fixed
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd give it a shot myself, the header drives me nuts though.
- Daisama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just hope that people start using blogger and not other stupid things like myspace.
BTW: Does blogger have technorati tags built in? - Jasonn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These are some great changes. The feed options are a welcome addition, and thank you, Blogger, for removing the dreaded publishing spinner...
- razei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How so? Livejournal doesn't even let you embed ***** into the page. :P
- johnshooter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is badly needed. Blogger is a great tool and a facelift would be awesome.
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One new feature I would like is the ability to create multiple pages, like at least three or something. Sure having one page keeps it simple for the generic end-user, but for people like me that know how to work with page linking and all, but either don't want to pay for hosting or can't afford it, having the ability to create at least a few extra pages besides the main blog would be a sweet feature.
Other than that, looks like the new features are very nice. Kinda looks like a cross between Google Pages and Blogger, which is something I figured and sort of hoped would happen ever since Google Pages came out. I can't wait until I can merge my blogger account with my Google account. - mv36, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How to join beta ?
- keiko61215, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does anyone know about a Microsoft blog? I remember seeing it somewhere but I cant seem to find it anywhere. Thanks
- yish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1can't see anything I don't already have on wordpress. Not like google to be so backwards.
- thewhiteraven, on 01/18/2008, -0/+0Blogger needs to work on a lot more to catch up like allowing multiple pages. Definitely not switching back from wordpress!
- azharttm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how can i integrate the beta with my old one
- epirater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome - I fixed the Css Script so you CAN Remove the blogger beta Navbar etc.
Just Digg this - http://digg.com/design/Disable_New_Blogger_Beta_Navbar_in_Seconds - to find out how!! - frem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@amire80: Only technical advantage? WordPress, you can have full access to the source and do almost anything with it. Not to mention it's dynamic. The Blogger pages are still generated HTML; this is why you have to throw away everything you know about PHP to customize your theme.
And lets not forget how Blogger still can't send trackbacks...
Also, the new Blogger beta won't let you edit your theme's source code anymore. A dialog box says this feature is "Coming soon". Joy. - leothemaster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0really nice thx
http://www.leothemaster.net - Syvergy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Last time I checked Livejournal superceded Blogger by what, 6 -7 years?
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1i think blogsome(based on wordpress mmu?) is better. it's also free.
http://www.blogsome.com - martinus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1sorry wrong article...
- martinus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1They just want to play the biggest Warhammer game ever
- wtfdan, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2That's all nice, but when am I going to be able to get the features on my current account? Is there a way to "upgrade" my current account? Transfer it unto my Google account?
I'd rather not have to make a completely new blog and lose the entirety of my archives in order to use the new toys.
:(
