- d2002, on 11/22/2008, -1/+121Or so they'll have us believe.
- BluBerryGTI, on 11/22/2008, -1/+85Where's the runway?
- jwolcott, on 11/23/2008, -2/+76I was actually fully expecting that, so you're only half as disappointed as I am.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -1/+60The whole thing is covered in solar panels. Nice
- gctoinfinity, on 11/23/2008, -0/+51Are those solar panels covering every square inch of all of those roofs? wow.
- browwiw, on 11/23/2008, -1/+46Hover cars don't need runways.
- shakabrah, on 11/23/2008, -2/+46dude, lay off the ethylenedioxymethamphetamine.
- stratazzz, on 11/23/2008, -7/+49who cares?
- shortshmu, on 11/23/2008, -0/+36Did you mean methylenedioxymethamphetamine?

"Google recently hitched a ride up to space with the GeoEye-1, the new imagery satellite built by the company GeoEye. Today, the company sent us a picture (above) that the new satellite snapped of the Google’s Googleplex headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.
While you may look at the Google Maps view of the Googleplex and think this image isn’t much better, I’m told that it’s because what you see on Google Maps is a combination ariel imagery with satellite imagery. This image is all satellite — as in hundred of miles up in the air — as in, in space.
From that perspective, this looks really good. The picture is a 50 cm image, which is the maximum resolution Google is allowed to use, because a certain large entity called the U.S. government is also using the GeoEye-1 for national security purproses."

It was only 3 paragraphs long! RTFA! - oMeSSiaHo, on 11/23/2008, -1/+35Most of the high res images are taken by planes that fly over "interesting" or populated areas. This new satellite is supposed to give us better images in areas that are in the middle of nowhere and places planes cant go.
- Brokein3, on 11/23/2008, -2/+33Underground. Because they're that badass.
- Pitstopper, on 11/23/2008, -0/+29Check this... The buildings spells out the company name "Infosys"
http://wikimapia.org/133184/Infosys-Technologies-L ... - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -6/+35Why the hell would anybody digg this down? It's absolutely classic!
- screensnot, on 11/23/2008, -1/+28Places planes can't go?
- shakabrah, on 11/23/2008, -3/+27if you squint you can see sergey brin and larry page rolling around in their money.
- TheDHC, on 11/23/2008, -3/+27I disagree
- phenolic, on 11/23/2008, -0/+22That totally caught me off guard. LMAO.
- turpenine, on 11/23/2008, -0/+20right, the page says there is higher resolution that is only available to the u.s. gov.
- 6minuteabs, on 11/22/2008, -13/+31I hope the images get better than that. Otherwise I'd have to say launching a satellite was a waste of money. It's not that the image is bad. It's just no better than they already have or that appears on Live or Mapquest for that matter.
- Nimphious, on 11/23/2008, -1/+18Times like this makes me wish I hadn't promised myself I wouldn't play with psychoactive drugs...
- akchrs, on 11/23/2008, -2/+18First they had the satelite view, was cool but now old. Then they had street view, was cool but getting old. They need something else like google xray with through the wall sound.
- jwolcott, on 11/23/2008, -5/+21The engineer named Philbert who spent the last 3 years working on the satellite's imaging, that's who.
- ryanonfire, on 11/23/2008, -0/+16The pictures from geoeye are amazing http://www.geoeye.com/CorpSite/gallery/Default.asp ...
- prolific, on 11/23/2008, -3/+18live maps bird's eye view is much better.
http://i36.tinypic.com/mt1lj5.jpg - eraser34, on 11/23/2008, -3/+16with a bunch of vaginas
- Enderplayer1, on 11/23/2008, -0/+12Can I buy some pot from you?
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 11/23/2008, -0/+12Just think, the whole company started from a few computers and two brainiacs in college.
- jwolcott, on 11/23/2008, -1/+13...and that they offered the algorithm to Yahoo for $1 million who rejected it. Hindsight is not only 20/20, it's also an itch you can never scratch away. Ever.
- Sam6644, on 11/23/2008, -8/+20k, whatev.
- DucoNihilum, on 11/23/2008, -1/+12Lol at failed wikipedia / google copypasta.
- jwolcott, on 11/23/2008, -1/+11Wrong. Next up is Google Sounds which will allow you to hear everything that's happening where you're focused at. At the lower zoom level, you'll hear the bustling of the city, and at the highest zoom, you'll hear two gay guys moaning.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -3/+12I really don't get it, why is this such a big deal? Or this is not from the satellite? http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP& ...
- postitnote, on 11/23/2008, -1/+10Finally, we can get a picture of the island on LOST. Because planes that get near that island tends to crash.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+9Rockets. Missiles go boom.........like the very first GeoEye / Ikonos
- Karkian, on 11/23/2008, -0/+9By my understanding with this kind of imagery a resolution of 50cm means that the smallest discernible features will be roughly 50cm across. I might be wrong and they phrased it badly but I'm pretty sure that's what they meant.
- dlite922, on 11/23/2008, -0/+8let me guess, it is accessed through a waterfall.
- abtarhar, on 11/23/2008, -2/+9I was invited to a tour here and I got to eat at their buffet for free. This place is awesome, and I hope they hire me.
- ricperry1, on 11/23/2008, -2/+8Dugg because it's a cool photo. But FTA: "The picture is a 50 cm image, which is the maximum resolution Google is allowed to use, because a certain large entity called the U.S. government is also using the GeoEye-1 for national security purproses." To say a picture is 50 cm says nothing at all about the resolution. How many square feet per pixel? That is what they should be answering.
- no1digger, on 11/23/2008, -1/+7"ariel imagery"
interesting shot nonetheless. - ryanhayn, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6Oh, so you think you're better than us?
- whoomp123, on 11/23/2008, -1/+7is it just me or are all of parking lots empty?
- commentposted, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6Which makes me three times as annoyed that I wasted time fully reading that comment.
- arjunprabhu, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6i guess, its shot from a plane..and not a sat..
- swiftekho, on 11/23/2008, -1/+7I see the nuke silos at the bottom. And the barracks are on the left.
- DyceFreak, on 11/23/2008, -2/+8note the lack of cars, and the solar panels EVERYWHERE
