My first choice is still this: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601082&am ... - zerton, on 03/02/2009, -0/+18I wish Thomas Jefferson didn't look like a sex predator on our new dollar coins :[
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -1/+15But it's not gold in the middle like a Toonie!

- jggube, on 03/01/2009, -0/+9Those are very cool and very modern designs.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+9but these coins are made by the dutch, not deutsch so I'm not sure if it's good stuff.
- incongruity, on 03/02/2009, -2/+11Actually, the story of how it was made was pretty cool and yes, the use of F/OSS tools was a bit of a novelty -- I'll see if I can dig it up because it's been a while since I read about it... EDIT: here we go: http://pythonide.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-make- ...
In any case, considering that those tools are just as available to you, me and anyone else, for free, I think it is actually a bit of an historic thing. There's a fundamental shift in the power to be creative from a limited few to the ranks of almost anyone and that comes in no small part because of F/OSS. And that's pretty damn cool in my book. - crit1caL, on 03/02/2009, -2/+11Grinding or skill progression.
Alternatively, the barrens. - BenLilly, on 03/02/2009, -1/+9Z... 4... Q... another Q... a third Q... and a batman symbol.
Is it Alex Karras in Webster? - Grasschoppa, on 03/02/2009, -0/+7have you saying 'wow' everytime
- jacido, on 03/02/2009, -0/+5I thought this was an article on WoW, too.
- Ev3nt372, on 03/02/2009, -0/+5If all the countries that use the Euro as currency are going to have their own fancy theme versions of the Euro then the collector inside me is going to go nuts.
- Diggnabbit, on 03/02/2009, -0/+5Yes.
- Velocity14, on 03/02/2009, -0/+5Did... anyone get carried away with their imagination when dealing with coins and the mention of the name "Dent"? Just for fun a little? Hmm...
- p4r4d0x, on 03/02/2009, -0/+5You following me camera guy?
- Sail3, on 08/04/2009, -0/+5Stop saying "chunk of wow"!
- minorthing91, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4No matter what country's emblem covers the back, a Euro is a Euro. You can use the same coin or banknote in any EU country, i.e. an Italian 1 Euro coin works inItaly, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, etc.
- Ghorkvos, on 03/02/2009, -4/+8The WORDS make a FACE!
- b1kerguy, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4"whats the ratio of a shrute buck to a stanley nickle?"

"The whole design was done for 100% with free software. The biggest part consists of custom software in Python, of course within the SPE editor. For the visual power I used PIL and pyCairo. From time to time also Gimp, Inkscape and Phatch helped quite a bit. All the developing and processing was done on GNU/Linux machines which were running Ubuntu/Debian." - wintersland, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro
Each central bank/country has their own coins which have the common Euro front (map) and the national symbol on the back. In Ireland all our coins have the Harp on the bank, other countries have various other designs such as buildings/people etc. - TomRemixed, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2Billy Mays here with another fantastic Dutch coin!
- BellaVitaGirl, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2I think it's just chance.
:-p - kajoob, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2Bend over, I'll show ya.
- bluepepper, on 03/02/2009, -0/+21. Euros are made by countries of the Eurozone. Coins have a common side and a personalized side, bills are the same everywhere. There are rules about how much a country can print.
2. What?
3. Yes, there's a European Central Bank.
4. No, this 5€ coin is not legal tender. It is a commemorative coin.
5. No. - mrBitch, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2Dug for Python and SPE.
- zengfoli, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1good
- tmyprod, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2So does 1 Dutch Euro = 1 Irish Euro?
- apio, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1within our precious 'whoever pops out of the lucky vag first takes the crown' system, she is probably the best we can get
- kimbja98, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1With other currencies floating around my wallet, the new coins did confuse me initially as I couldn't tell the value of the coin (the large writing has gone) and based on shape...lots of coins are silver and around 5p or 10p size...:s
- gdha, on 09/09/2009, -0/+1"fully contemporary chunk of wow"? Epic.... epic coin, too!
- MonumentMan, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1seriously awesome coin, coolest i've ever seen by far
- ikkefc3, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1This one has legal value. You can actually pay with it. See: http://pythonide.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-make- ...
- JantjePietje, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1wrong
- mrBitch, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2I agree, and it's even cooler that it was done via Python.
- JantjePietje, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1This makes me want my old money back. ***** the euro :(
- ReDoEr, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1saw the wow in the title and figured maybe the Dutch decided to weather the economic hard times by gold farming.
- jakem1, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1I'm not sure what's so great about the new UK coinage. It's been widely panned for being extremely poorly designed and it's just about impossible to tell different coins apart due to the lack of a number that actually tells you what amount each coin represents. A classic case of form over function.
- mrBitch, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1Wow, a coin the size of a car wheel?
- MonsieurBucket, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1That is one sexy ass coin, all i can say
- alvaris, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1Thank you for sharing this. It's very interesting and looks cool! :D
- RonnyN, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1Much like Schrute bucks, it's worth 1/1000th of a cent.
