- nlatimer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+77It would've been cooler if you could've gotten icons thats weren't reoccuring, but rather cool nonetheless.
- rocket5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50Okay, making a third version without any repeated icons.
- abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36Sorry, but I am going to have to sue you for using my image.
That will be $5000 please. - ani-pockdotnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Yup, see this part in the discription of this story:
"Inspired by an earlier digg story "Browse Digg users by their icon"." - d3m3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20What the hell! Mines not up there!
- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Wait a second...
The guy submitting it is different than the guy who made the image, so it seems.
Cool, nevertheless. - awa1ct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I can't find Waldo :(
- Flyngwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11My Icon's all OVER that *****! BAM!
- ani-pockdotnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The reason I did not submit a version soley made from unique images is due to a limit placed by Google Image Search.
When the mosaic program goes to Google, it can only return 1,000 image results. That is not enough to make a complete mosaic. So the only way I could create a complete image was to allow the program to make duplicates. The program ran more google searches of 1,000 each, so the mosaic is not just based on 1,000.
If anyone can figure out how to batch download the 6,000 some icons, then I can make a truely unique ( no repetition) mosaic. (Go to the digg story about how to google browse digg icons.) - puneypunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+822 repitions of mine, how r33t am i! lol.
- affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Here is a tutorial on how to do it
http://www.engadget.com/2004/10/19/how-to-make-your-own-photo-mosaics/
The PC program for making mosaics is Andrea Mosaic, realy great - rocket5, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I will try to see if the program has that option.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7now if only I can find one for the PC... (it's kinda interesting that for once, someone is actually asking for a PC version instead of Linux or mac)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hi! This is great! Where do I send my DMCA Takedown Notice to?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The copyright police can kiss the Disney tattoo of Donald Duck I have on my ass.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Anyone see Batman? I'm still looking for him.
- uberphildo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Is it just me, or in the "smaller version" does it look like Kevin is flipping us off and not "thinking"?
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So who made it? anti-pockdotnet or rocket5? Or is it the same user? Not that it matters..
- Waltezmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My old avatar is in the smaller version, I don't know about the big one. Digg for that.
- scbysnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4kevins face is covered in virginia tech.. thats awesome
- Jams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you use the google API it's possible to specify an offset value. ie. you can search from icon 1001 onwards.
- JDOG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mirror plz. KTHX!
- MuZiKMafia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ditto with the aboves....
and duggmirror doesnt cover the design section.
oh well, i guess I'll keep an eye on the site and these comments. - Ghostgum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cool... my humble lil icon appears in the word Diggnation 11 times!
- NikZane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Err, -5? Wow, some of you guys mod down just for the hell of it, don't you? You see one mod-down and just follow suit.
Must suck to be a human sheep. - r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ani-pockdotnet - I'm a graphic artist, and I really really like this idea. Do you mind if I try out your concept? I've been dabbling with photomosaics for a few years, and have had some comissioned mosaics too.
I could set up a system, where people would email me their avatars (so that I have their permission to use them) and my mosaic would be as big as I can make it, with zero repeted avatars.
Sound good? - TheWestExit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's alot of those black default icons. I don't like that.
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're all over the place.
- rousehouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's gone, anyone have a mirror?
- webcollective, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you put it on flickr people could notate it and link to their profile...
- shawnanigans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dinger, I wasn't used, if only they kept drinking and got cirrhosis of the liver. A little jaundice and I'm in the pic, or maybe smoking to get the fingers discoloured. Or more coffee get the teeth a healthy orange.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mine wasn't. I can't imagine why.
- Kazanoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Blah, I dont think I got used. Oh well.
That was extremely well done, I liked it.
My only complaint is the number of Naruto pictures. I musta seen him four or five times, and Itachi like... eight. Stupid Naruto. - dengzhi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2same, altho a lot of firefox icons are in it
- Mace37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Right of the right guy's elbow. bottom row.
- spling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My awesome lightning bolt wasn't used.. damn.
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice.
But as you said, it's hardly 4000 UNIQUE images. More like a couple hundred. - ani-pockdotnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The version using only UNIQUE icons has been posted:
http://pockyrevolution.googlepages.com/diggnationmosaicv2 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that didnt take long! Wow...Web 2.0 at its best.
If only someone can figure out how to make money from this stuff! - ModernGeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm bummed out because I'm not in there :(
- Cab00se, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i love how some people are like "nice job, but now im gunna sue you for using my avatar" even tho they didnt make it...where as for me i totaly made my own.
- mwallace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's awesome.
And my icon is used! - shroom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Woo, I was included, go me.
- evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I did this several years ago with usericons from DeviantArt.com. I had to stop due to the fact that each user icon is property of that user, and technically you have to get permission from every single person that you use - obviously ridiculously difficult when you create a mosaic with hundreds or thousands of unique tiles, especially once the DeviantArt crew started actively enforcing silly things like "copyright infringement"... ;-)
If anyone wants to see what I did though, take a look... http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/665830/ - Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bandwidth on the main site has been exceded. Anyone have the file and would like to mirror it for us? :)
- BlitzPig_Sal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Guess we had the same idea for an avatar icon.
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Me too, ModernGeek. But I'm kind of new, and I don't know when this was put together.
- jer.williams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cool, I didn't know software like this was freely available. Last I checked someone owned a patent on the idea and was charging astromical fees for the photo treatement. Great to have these links.
- computerdan000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you RTFA, you would see that "The icons were assembled and matched by a Mac progam called "MacOSaiX""
- computerdan000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone see Tux the Penguin?
