Wow, I need to travel... - shumonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7as an american, i wish i could choose not to be lumped in with morons like pdxbenjamin
- Snowknight26, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@pdxbenjamin:
Considering that they are, it annoys me to think anyone would think they aren't.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America - Snowknight26, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@pdxbenjamin:
Again, let me reiterate. Greenland and Mexico are part of North America, like it or not. I provided a link to prove to you that not only do I know for a fact they are part of NA, but that Wikipedia agrees with me. Still don't believe me? Tough. Looks like you'll need to do a little studying of your own. - wmarcello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Only 1% here too, but at least for Canada I can say I've visited every province. Definitely time to leave North America though.
- Icklehamsta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been to 11% :) and I...was 14 a few days ago. Oh yeah!

- azzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+328% ! I didn't realise. But it looks like Burma (Myanmar) isn't showing up on the map, even though I selected it.
http://www.travbuddy.com/widget_map_confirm.php?id=1561
Just tested it again - no Burma
-- FoxClocks - blemman56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Okay, map now displays the percentage as a % of countries visited, so USA states will only count towards one country. Also added a direct link for map display. My map is here, i'm down to 14% of countries visited...gotta get moving!
http://www.travbuddy.com/widget_map_display.php?id=2 - wallen3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd love to try it out.... but it's been Dugg to death.
Travel 2.0 is pretty big right now.
http://www.travelistic.com also lets you mark where you've been; I think http://www.tripmates.com does something similar... - blemman56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey guys, we've made some tweaks to better handle the digg traffic, so hopefully it will be more accessible. Thanks also for the good feedback and we'll work to incorporate your ideas into making the map even better.
- rg1515, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This site is really cool.
My friend used it to track his hike across the Appalachian trail:
http://www.wheresnorm.com - sandig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I got 8% here, however I am only 14:

- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wow, guess i need to get my ass to africa. it's a big grey unfilled in continent.....
- ThePDW, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Damnit if you really like a site don't submit it to digg, it will be destroyed :-(
- saladtossser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.travbuddy.com/widget_map_display.php?id=5503
and woot firefox - honey54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mine came up just 1%, but I'm wondering just how many North Americans could do better.
I like the fact that North America isn't front and center in the image. - seco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I dont really get it. Why is that all the states of the US are listed but not states for other countries? I mean there are a lot of other countries that are divided into regions. For example this map only lists the United Kingdom. Why not England, Wales etc.? Those are different countries. And that's just one example.
Well, the maker of this map is probably from the US. - yonah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And that makes the submitted story inaccurate because...?
The only thing I wonder, is why it is posted under design. :P - NatalieMac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The Bahamas are missing.
Plus, this map is ridiculously skewed for the US - puts each state on equal footing with other countries.
And, while the site is nicely designed and works well, the map looks like ass. Comic Sans? Seriously? I don't want that crap on my site.
*Plus* you have to click directly on the checkboxes to select the places you've visited. Can't click the labels. Bad programming. - normanspencer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.passportstamp.com/ is FAR better (although does need firefox...)
- blemman56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+116% traveled here. Going to fix it so that it will display % of countries visited...i.e. USA counts as 1 country, rather than individual states.
- steppana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.travbuddy.com/widget_map_display.php?id=11687
It's amerocentric, I agree. Different states ought not count as independent countries - they aren't. I would have been able to get an extra one for the German Democratic Republic but it went away. - alchemista, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I thought if I registered, it would then be easy to generate this map. However, I can't find a damn link to this map except for the direct link. When I register, you have to enter in your countries visited by comma separated values (lame) and only then does it give you a map with google map pins in it (big deal).
This would be cool if registered users could keep the map updated. - garland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+143places.com is better.
- TheoDork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Alright, can someone please tell me why Colombia and Myanmar aren't showing up on the map? Colombia is listed, but they misspelled the name... It's not like they're small countries either like the Vatican.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.travbuddy.com/widget_map_display.php?id=781
dugg to death - Xyleene, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sweet, appreciate it!
I've now visited 1% of the world :P Every little bit counts.
Other ideas would be to hook it up to statistics about population, geographic region.. etc etc.
good stuff. - aussia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Must... travel... more!
The code they supplied doesn't seem to like my blog. Does anyone know if this is due to the digg effect or is there something gimpy in the html? - sexycommando, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1on mine it mislabeled "Dominican Republic" as "Haiti" when it generated the map.
- outsidethestar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree except for Texas which was its own country at one time (the only state that can claim that, I believe...). Most of us who are from here, believe it still sounds like a good idea. ;-)
- mskonfa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool! My visited places are at http://www.passrider.com/places_visited.htm
based on I guess similar technology from www.world66.com. - cjanelo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Platial is similar, but better. It's a much broader version of this. Platial allows you to create your own maps -- which can include your Travel Map....
- babyblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have a world map over foam board hung on my living room wall, with lots of small ball pins pined to the places I have been too. Makes a nice decor, but I guess not as easy to show people as a webpage.
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17% including East Berlin before the WALL was torn down.
http://www.travbuddy.com/widget_map_display.php?id=5751 - henribergius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+021% and counting...
http://www.travbuddy.com/widget_map_display.php?id=15659 - grgt1994, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I disagree. The map it generated was in no way cool.
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+141%. Almost all of it for free while working under contract to DoS for DynCorp over a 6 year period (1985 to 1991)
- FigBug, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Where is Trinidad & Tobago? Or St Lucia?
- SirJman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Since when is Macau a country? It's like Hong Kong, a SAR of China. Some 'may' consider it sovereign, but in that case why is HK not up?
It's also missing a lot of Caribbean countries (some independent, many are overseas territories) - rajulkabir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Damn, you're 1% ahead of me.
This map seems to have been created by someone with a poor grasp of political geography.
Macau but no Hong Kong? Make up your mind.
What about all the Independent Caribbean nations like Trinidad & Tobago? They have Puerto Rico but not Bahamas?
Serbia and Montenegro are separate countries; why are they on the same checkbox?
They have Andorra and Monaco but not San Marino and the Vativan? What gives?
Western Sahara is not a country by anyone's definition.
What about Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, etc.?
I'm sure there are plenty more weird errors; that's just from a quick skim. - azzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think it's a pretty cool idea, and I sympathise with having to deal with the 'Greenland isn't part of North America' crowd. I am very happy you've taken separate US states out of the reckoning, though.
- grgt1994, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@rajulkabir
Get laid. - blemman56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hi Aussia, what blog platform are you using? Does it just not display at all, or does it give you any error messages?
- VIshala, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Canada is the second largest country in the world yet they don't divide it into individual provinces like they do with US states. So that means if I've been to P.E.I., I can check off the entire country as "visited"? Same goes for many other countries that have different provinces/states. It's a bit silly.
Also, like a few others have mentioned, there are a lot of little countries missing (i.e. Trinidad & Tobago).
With the current layout/selections, I've visited 5% of the world. - basketofkittens, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Woo! 14%!
- Trimis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19% traveled here
- pdxbenjamin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0@snowfag...
Uhmm I live in America I’m not sure where you live…so I don't know about you but I won’t be lumped in with a bunch of 3rd world disease infested fence jumpers in Mexico ... who don't even speak English!
And that link to wikipedia, … what you can’t even say anything for yourself you have to send me to link to prove your point. Good call buddy. -
