- cody50, on 10/12/2007, -1/+81Lack of internet connectivity...now that is scary.
- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Some of those are actually pretty clever. I like the nanoparticle one.
- theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17It's the Greek letter Omega.
Existential roughly means
"rebellion against conditions of existence. Examines metaphysical life of humankind. Priest turns the mirror on to the void. The "old age of Modern Drama." Exploration of Spiritual world/time/timelessness"
Omega, being the last letter, often is associated with the end timesLast Judgment. So it often comes into a spiritual context in both Christain and Pagan beliefs. Example: Jesus said in the bible (or at least some translations), "I am the Alpha and the Omega." - baldr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12dugg for the scariest hazard of all:
"Lack of internet connectivity" - hablo4u, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I have a warning sign for that collection of warning signs:
"Warning. Use of big, complicated words for big, complicated word's sake ahead."
The symbol would be an exploding dictionary. - dono169, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Is the preview on the digg homepage for Flickr new? I know its been for videos, but pictures?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6because we wouldn't think it was (funny) unless we were told
- incandenza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6An "existential threat" refers to something that could destroy all intelligent life (eliminate the "existence" of the human species). It has nothing to do with the philosophy of existentialism.
Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet, and often used to refer to the end or limit or something. - linksdeity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6the Diamond Surfaces sign will most likely first appear in Puff Daddy's house.

The first time I heard of memes and memetics was when I looked up explanations for MGS2's bizarre ending. After I read this analysis of memes and MGS2 (http://junkerhq.net/MGS2/) I thought it was the best game I've ever played. - Aupajo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love the chaotic system. A butterfly flaps its wings...
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uh.... I can just see it now...
"Oh, there must be horses over here!"
"Why is there a picture of a chimney?"
"Butterflys???"
"A soccer ball?"
"Candle holder?" - flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4dont link to your own submit. its just low.
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Due to your spam, welcome to my block list.
- aristotle0dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3 jdb252, way to miss his point. He merely mentioned religion at the end of his comment to place Omega in a cultural context most people would be familiar with. Your prejudice is showing. Stow it and work on your reading comprehension.
- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh, yeah so uh, carry on, nothing to see here.
- MattM462, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lack of Internet Connectivity...
I can so see that happening... - Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I had to actually look some of these words up in the dictionary.... guess I probably wasn't the only one. I'd never heard the word "memetic" until now and this intoduced me to stranglets too.
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm surprised none of them are mauve.
If you don't get it, 4th under use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauve - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3this is also at http://lifeboat.com/ex/warning.signs.for.tomorrow
are these the same guys, or is one copying the other? - jdb252, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7mbthompson - Way to completely miss it. Existentialism has NOTHING to do with meditation. That would be considered absolutely silly by an existentialist, one who accepts life for its absurd value and doesn't put meaning into spiritual/physiological things like that.
And theuber1337 - Existentialism isn't religion. It's an unorganized philosophy, one that has changed much since its inception. A reference to Jesus or paganism wouldn't make sense because neither has anything to do with existentialist philosophy. - mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just found the new artwork for my walls. (nonstandard spacetime, self evolving system)
- ambiversive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My understanding of existentialism is that it posits that essence comes before existence rather than existence determining essence?
- sfden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Most geekish thing I've ever seen!
- MrAlexanderZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1New BG!
- Feagond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1creative, cool and well thought. My favorites are the chaotic and self-evolving/improving/replicating systems, those bastards make for some serious classic sci-fi threats. Oh and of course the lack of internet connectivity, that one will soon be relevant, even without exoself i kinda feel lost when disconnected hehe.
- Lobster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Have these future signs been approved
by the Chronology Protection Agency?
http://tmxxine.com/Wikka/wikka.php?wakka=ChronologyProtectionAgency
. . . actually as they exist . . . they must be OK - streak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wonder what the symbol will be for "Radioactive Watersupply" and "Radioactive farmlands".
- dickeytk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2why do you keep posting your crappy article on here?
i vote http://digg.com/userblock/127959 - converge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2mbthompson, you just got served.
- ThomasNewman1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is actually pretty cool. Does anyone have any links to any simular funny/future warning label sites?
- archemedes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What a weird coincidence, last night I Googled "Symbol For Antimatter" last night and found these.
Well, actually I found the artist's blog that explains them all in detail.

- joank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm so making a t-shirt with a sign on it.
- thecolor11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think we already need the ubiquitious surveillance one.

Google Results 1 - 10 of about 1,260,000 for memetics.
Google Results 1 - 10 of about 29,600 for memetics "Keith Henson"
Been writing about memes since the mid 80s.
Keith Henson - jdb252, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Aristotle - Putting it in a cultural context has nothing to do with the actual connotation with regards to existentialism if it's a non-sequitir.
- jsanders, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3why does existential threat use the ohm symbol?
- loquedesea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0*ubiquitous
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1The symbol would be a pic of emanuel lewis screaming like the home alone kid, and only gen x'ers would get the warning.
- Drewboy64, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2It's kinda like that song "It is the end of the world!" I could see that one happening.
- soopah256, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1haha. that's my fav.
- Batiu-Drami, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Its just a tad *too* nerdy really.
Slashdot would like it much better, I would think... - Sandkat, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5404: Funny not found.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5No, Slashdot is usually reserved for news, or at least quasi-news. This is just crap.
Only Digg gets crap. - mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -24/+5Ok, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and not berate you for not getting the joke. Have you ever seen people practicing meditation or pretending they're practicing meditation? They always go into some form of the lotus position and say "ohhhmmmm". Get it now?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -31/+4You forgot one...Neo-Fascism alert. Cover ears to avoid jingoistic rhetoric.
oh wait...we need that now

What is Digg?
