- ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18http://www.sxc.hu - clickable link.

- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@skyshock21: Give the guy a break... it was a CNet entry, not a traditional personal blog. Also, you can't link two different sites in one header anyway. In Digg, it isn't possible and in HTML the hierarchal nesting structure would make the text link to the closest <a> tag
Take it easy, it's Memorial Day weekend ;-) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can see it now, every website having the exact same photos.
- ana10g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you're using photographs for any professional purpose, you should pay the photographer. Nothing is worse than having people use your work - especially when you put a lot of time and effort into it - and not seeing a dime.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Ahem, here's the REAL source links -
http://www.everystockphoto.com/
http://yotophoto.com/
And to the original poster... next time give us direct links. No one cares about that ***** blog. - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3skyshock, he linked to CNET, not his own blog, so that's at least good. Also, he can only link to one site for his Digg headline.
- Eddible, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Definately, sxc.hu is the best source of free stock photos. Period.
- placain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Amazing. People are saying things like "I thought everything had a copyright" or "I wasn't aware that photos from xxxxxx were considered free" ... and nobody, nobody at all, is actually bothering to LOOK AT THE SITE. It's just like slashdot.
They're indexing photos which people have EXPLICITLY licensed for such public domain distribution with a Creative Commons license. I really don't see how anyone can find anything wrong with this. If you say, explicitly, "I want anyone and everyone to do with my photo as they please" - I would think you'd be happy to have someone come along and make it easier for folks to do exactly that. That's the whole POINT of Creative Commons! - hudef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The web is aglut with free images. I've got to kick myself in the head hard, real hard, whenever the fanciful notion of trying to sell my photography crosses my star-crossed mind.
/yeah I know that the word "aglut" doesn't exist. It should. - rusty_g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now i can stop stealing pics from the internet...
- Mr.Glass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1still some probs though. a search for bookstore on everystockphoto returned a wall of red number tags. search engine nees a bit of fine tuning.
- tristanbethe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Although we are also search able via yotophoto imageafter.com offers free images and textures for both commercial and personal use. no credits needed. We may offer less images at the moment as sxc.hu you never have to check the authors terms, at imageafter they are all the same: free :)
- freeiconsweb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks, More free stock photos see
http://www.freeiconsweb.com - schleufer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And you should be paying me for reading your post. After all, I had to put time and effort into it.
I can see your point if you are a PROFESSIONAL Photographer, and your photos appear in a PRIVATE portfolio (your own site) and your photos are COPYWRITTTEN with appropriate LICENSING. But for any lame-o that posts their ***** to ImageShack or MySpace... I don't feel any pity for you.
Get serious or get over it. You can't dabble in it and expect people to just fork over fees on their own accord. - onehalf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More free stock photography:
http://www.imageafter.com/ - loftx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A lot of the photos are only for non-commercial use anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem.
I hope people realize non-commerical means you can't use them if your site or blog serves ads though. - fcepolinab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When google is born there were many concerns about "text" copyright.
After the "pdf" invention many fears seemed to disappear.
After it was the case for "mp3" with napster.
Now it is time for images: Google, Yahoo, Altavista, Alexa, Yotophoto have all powerful image search engines. Many people today search for images or movies.
Tons of teenagers grab images for their Myspace page.
Internet is born to share information and free stuff; the concept something to be "free" always creates confusion. Any image you get for free, you should know how is handled its copyright.

Over million of royalty-free content item links at this resource. Search for 3d and creative graphics content. Check it out. - wistar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There you go. The key piece.
- schleufer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just the other day, I was looking for a free/royalty free photos and finally ended up at MorgueFile. After looking at this article, it seems I was on the right track since YotoPhoto includes MorgueFile in its searches.
I wasn't aware that photos from Wikipedia and Flickr were considered free- I stayed away from those two sites because I thought everything had a copyright.
@Metabolife- even if 2 sites have the exact same photos, they may be used in very different ways. One site may crop the image for an extreme close-up, the other site may add filters or convert it in black and white. Stock Photos have been used in advertising for decades, so this isn't anything new and it doesn't result in websites looking the same. - schleufer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Copywritten or not doesn't matter if you don't enforce it. For many people (most people) enforcing the copyright is too much of a pain to bother with. Especially when legalities and retaining an attorney come into order.
It isn't a pretty process, regardless whether or not photos automatically have copyright.
And then you still have to deal with international laws, and enforce the copyright in those areas as well. Do you honestly think you can enforce your copyright into Russia, Romania or even China? I doubt it, and if you can, it certainly won't be free.
It still comes down to the fact that if you hold the Copyright, it is up to you to enforce it. There aren't police that troll the web looking for violations (unless you happen to be the RIAA or MPAA). This is what I meant about "get serious". If you aren't willing to do this, then you aren't serious.
Yes, capitalization was use purposely, to direct your attention to the important keywords. Obviously it worked. - wistar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, no law matters if it isn't enforced.
- liverpoolfc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Am I missing something here?
3 paragraphs on c|net news which gives no new info at all, and links out to two sites which should have been dugg directly

Lame - wistar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Your photos are COPYRIGHTED the MOMENT you TAKE them regardless of the STATUS of the portfolio. Anyone USING them must arrange for the PROPER licensing through YOU, LAME-O or OTHERWISE.
Wow, all that gratuitous CAPITALIZATION wears out one's eyeballs. - ppb1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I thought it was redundant to flickr/creativecommons but it apparently trolls that collection among others.
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3-bury me-mispost-
- ThorbjorgX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Yeah, I agree. It is great. How many people would actually take advantage of being able to spice up their own little dull presentations? Everyone! Sitting in classes looking at these bland POS presentations is getting boring. Let these wake me up!
- coffeegeek, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1awesome
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Just go right to the source! Http://www.spectralogue.com :)
