Our station wagons are better looking and faster than your sport coupes.
Smooches,
Audi - waterdrop, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Imagine pulling up to a stop light next to one of those pocket rocket/rice burners and then blowing the doors off of it in your station wagon.
- zerinS4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Silly hippie. They already have a 49mpg A4 in Europe, powered by a 1.9 liter TDI engine. How about less time spent hugging trees and more time actually spent researching what is available in Europe?
- varmint007, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11It's 4400 pounds which is actually lighter than I expected.
But with 580 hp, who cares?
I think it's funny that the neighbors will think you're responsible if you bought one of these. - demps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10The Lamborghini (note the spelling) V10 engines are derived from the 4.2L V8 engine created by Audi. The only thing that the Audi V10 and the Lamborghini V10 have in common is the main engine block (developed by Audi for Lamborghini). Each company uses their own bespoke cylinder head and valve-train configuration.
- cloudcity, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I'll make a bold statement.
Best daily driver ever. - mikespin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Bandit! Get these family-sized packs of paper towels to Atlanta, stat!
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Yup, 580 HP sure is boring.
- umdigger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I don't think anyone who knows anything about cars is going to say that Audi got ideas from Subaru.
- krugerlive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I drive (or drove before i moved to nyc) a tuned A4 5-spd wagon. I can tell you from experience, there is nothing like burning someone in a station wagon. I have pissed off a lot of mustangs and civics.
- KennMac, on 11/02/2007, -0/+8That's great. I prefer peanut-butter over jelly, but unfortunately it has nothing to do with this article.
The R8 is a mid-engine sports car. - krugerlive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Audi is a lot better than a BMW in terms of reliability. I have had experience with both. And nothing can out handle a quattro car. Quattro is so good that it was banned from rally sport. every other car maker can use their system, but Audi can't, because when they do, they always win.
- No13Baby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Not to mention the VW Lupo that gets about 10-15MPG more than a prius
- daridave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I think you should have started saving yesterday. :P
- Toothy1911, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Holy *****, if it's anything like the RS4, that will be one quick beast. *Starts saving now*
- dawheelo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7On your budget, you'd better stick with Hyundai, Kia or Dihatsu
- joper90, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8says someone that could never afford one
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7With the exception of the Gallardo which runs the V10 engine Audi helped Lambo develop. And this is how the ownership scheme works... Lamborghini is owned by Audi and Audi is owned by the Volkswagen Automotive Group. As a side note, Porsche (whom VAG owns shares in) is actively seeking to become the majority shareholder of VAG.
- umdigger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I do that in my allroad sometimes. It's fun.
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It's the car of choice for the coolest soccer mom EVER.
- zerinS4, on 11/02/2007, -1/+7I told a few people in the industry last night that I would buy the RS6 over the R8 in a heartbeat. Practicality, power, and beauty all in one slick package...I can't ask for more.
- djchester, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Audi shows class as always, too bad it's not my class.
- Ultramagnus0001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Is it usable HP. why do you think most race cars don't have 1000000 HP
- aluminumpork, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5A SEXY station wagon. Mmm...
- jscro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I always hear this, but Audi is very popular with myself and my friends. I guess we just must be totally lucky and get cars that don't have problems? I should play the lottery with this kind of luck. I had my A4 for 3 years, and besides replacing the clutch at 80,000 miles, it was trouble free.
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5And the thing to remember is that those are just performance estimates. Audi is notoriously conservative with the performance numbers they publish, so I would not be surprised to see this beast easily doing 60 in less than 4.5 seconds.
- EdmontonEh, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6{Drool}
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4There are two scenarios that I believe account for CincyKid's excellent comment:
a) He's a crack pipe kid.
b) Doesn't know jack ***** about cars.
I'd like to think it's a combination of the two. - strictnein, on 10/10/2007, -0/+34.4 seconds for the new M3.
- heysoos04, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Thats neat, but for looks i'd prefer the Audi R8..
- jscro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wow. What kind of market are they going for? The same market MB goes after with the AMG cars, and the same market BMW goes after with the M cars. These cars all sell out, so I guess there must be a market? ALl of these manufacturer's also create diesel cars, which get way better gas milage than their American or Japanese counterparts, so I guess it's safe to say you don't know what the ***** you're talking about. So why not shut the ***** up? Thanks!
- aluminumpork, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Amen brotha.
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Then go buy a Toyota.
You don't buy an Audi for its reliability. You buy it for the passion and joy it exudes when driven. - FelixdaaHack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This horsepower war is getting out of control...a 600hp grocery getter?...aww, sure why not
- TheLoneHoot, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2WOW! zerinS4 told some people "in the industry" about his preferences! Yay!!! now we'll see some big changes in upcoming models.
/sarcasm - Meave, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Time to upgrade my A4!
- Dokkodo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"It requires just 4.6 seconds for the sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h, and reaches the 200 km/h mark in a mere 14.9 seconds."
Wow. - danielwsmithee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yeah but the Audi do look so much better ;-)
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2To be fair, saying that they use the same engine is pretty close. The block isn't exactly a trivial part of the engine.
- HautePie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Banned from rally for being so good? Where did you get that rubbish from? Audi left WRC 20 years ago.
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sure, an STi and EVO are way fun for way less, but their overall package (i.e. fit and finish) is light-years behind an Audi. With an Audi, you're paying a premium for an award winning interior, while also getting a mind blowing car. With the STi or EVO you're paying for a normal Japanese car with an engine on steroids and an interior that looks like it was made from my old plastic/rubber trash can. Hence the reason why I chose to spend a lot more for a car, that IMO, has a much greater overall package.
- Goatman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm an Audi fanboy... but BMW builds some of the best engines in the world.
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Having owned a total of three audis (B5 A4 1.8T, and currently own a B5 S4 and B7 S4), I can empathize with you about the reliability. Although, never once in my 6+ years of owning an Audi have I ever been stranded on the side of the road. All the issues I encounter are small electrical quirks that can be fixed within a matter of minutes. But from the sounds of it, you were stuck with a horrid Audi dealer, which can make life a lot more miserable.
I'm guessing you had an early 2000s A6, which were terrible when it came to service issues. The past few years Audi has really stepped it up when it comes to reliability.
IMO, the joy I get from driving an Audi has outweighed any quirks the cars may have. But it also helps when you work on your own cars :-). - CrashOne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You cant really compare the RS6 to the M3.....its more competition for the m5 then anything else.
- demps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I guess that's why Audi has continued to break its own sales records and forecasts for the past few years? Oh, wait...
Not everyone buys a car based on its reliability. To passionate motorheads (such as myself), a car that will constantly put a smile on my face heavily outweighs a boring sedan that doesn't break down.
If I wanted reliability, I would have gotten a Toyota. - IceIX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Audi is a lot better in terms of reliability, interiors, exteriors, engine technology, fuel efficiency, and racing heritage."
- KennMac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That's right. Because the emissions rating from this Audi will blow a 600hp caddy out of the water in that respect.
- danielwsmithee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They do it is called a VW TDI.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nobody likes you and you're going to die alone and turn into a tree.
- AICkieran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's about willy waving and saying you have it and fooling yourself in to thinking you can get the most of it.
If people want it, why not, they work hard for their money and if it brings a bit of joy to their lives why not :) also I'd prefer a miata at a sunday track day, this is too heavy and I'd be too worried about binning it. -
