- NeoPlatonist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34Buried for improper spelling of dugg...
- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I majored in Graphic Design at a University based in Silicon Valley and worked there as well. A lot of my clients just didn't get the idea that color is very important for corporate identity. I had one guy agree to my color scheme, only to call me the next day to change it because his wife told him that lavender would look better than what I picked. It was her favorite color. It took me a while to talk him out of it and he later relented. He thanked me afterwards. I wonder if his wife withheld sex that night
- Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uhh Europeans? You mean the rest of the world? :P It's only America who, as usual, has to be different and use alternative spelling. And btw... get with the times and switch to the metric system! :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9American English is a subset of real English.
When I moved here 11 years ago I had to "dumb it down" for the Yanks.
Still do. - soupisgoodfood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Bollocks. Most of the time, most people can learn anything to a mediocre level. Now, a programmer will probably never be the world's greatest designer, but there is no reason with a bit of education and will, they can't bring their skills up to a adequate level. Even gifted people were still often taught, whether you're talking about scientists like Einstein, or artists like Beethoven or Dali.
Whether you have it or you don't usually applies to people at the top end of their field. For a commercial web developer, they are probably more worried about having their site look half decent, not being the best graphic designer. - axisds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As a graphic design major at San Jose State I found this a great read. His other articles on type and grid systems were good too. Good find.
- raindogmx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, it's a very straightforward approach for thinking our of the box. Wonderful.
- bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good thing you have more balls than some of your clients.
Purple is difficult to reproduce consistently and should be avoided for corporate work, but if you know what you're doing, lavender can look cool. Patrick Nagel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Nagel ) somehow managed to use it a lot without looking sissy. - Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mind you a lot of countries use English besides Britain and America so I don't see why only "true englishman" can spell right... I spell it as colour and I'm Australian, mate :P
- axisds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I found these Digg submissions on other design articles by the same writer, Mark Boulton. Check 'um out they're good.

http://digg.com/design/Five_simple_steps_to_designing_grid_systems - CircleFusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You've got to be kidding. If it's not easy for you, then don't even try?
- ejaedesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a terrific article by someone who obviously understands sophisticated design principles and is able to articulate them in simpler terms. I'm very glad to find his site.
I think both beginners and "experts" will find the articles refreshing (even if they're reminders for some.) I still find color the least understood subject for me, and having taken a couple of color theory classes it is also difficult to apply theory into practice. A hearty thanks from me! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1More More
- asuraci, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Will people please just stop arguing over things that don't really matter? Seriously, does anyone care how it's spelled?
- BackOrder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Almost every designer I've worked with knew these things. Still worthy for casual and hobbyist designer. These simple steps could help turn many ugly sites to attractive ones because they make it easier to spot the elements which badly fits in your design.

- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Same here...SJSU class of.....uh, let's just say, I'm older than you. Go Spartans!!
- eddigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OK, this confirms it. There are less than 20 true Englishmen who read Digg.
- giveaphuk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2bah, if these things don't come naturally to you, then you prob. shouldn't be a designer.
- Anoobis, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7He's spelt it right? Mind you I speak and write English, no no, English English, not American English.
- grammarpolice, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5God dammit will people please get it right, it is spelled colouré.
- Sal4, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Hmmm... cool digg :)
- hazlett, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I think designing with color, or colour, cannot be learned, it must be ingrained, innate, you either have it or you don't.
Style is not learned.................if it were I would have learned it years ago ! - goat77, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I'd rather he ban you. Welcome to my blocklist.
- ogre2112, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1If he's doing something wrong, then change the system so he can't. A ban will be worked around in, oh.. 30 seconds? I have no idea why you want him banned, I'm just saying..
- KevinWhite, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3touché Neo, hate when that happens!
- timmyt, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5Damn Europeans. It's color.

- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Yeah, I keep reading aobut how this guy "aaaz" is the definition of 'gaming the system'
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Kevin, when are you going to ban this guy? http://digg.com/users/aaaz/submitted/page1
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1It's spelled: colo7fw0389faaa$!
- KevinWhite, on 10/12/2007, -32/+23digged for the proper spelling of colour
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Is that so, Kevinne Whyte?
