- eexlebots, on 10/12/2007, -11/+71Dear Toyota,
Please send me one magic fast efficient hybrid car with RWD and a drop top. Enclosed you will find one (1) human soul.
Sincerely,
Me - RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54If they ever do go into production, the sticker price may be $35k, but there is no way in hell you would get one for that price. Even the Prius are still hard to find in many places...
- Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39....concept.
Meaning the production car (if it ever makes it that far) will either miss all of the performance goals or be 4 times the cost.
Also the article is wrong, as the supra was made until 2002, not 1997.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Supra - scottylist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35I'm sick and tired of seeing awesome futuristic concept cars that never make it to production. According to Back to the Future 2, we should have flying cars and skyways in 8 years.
STOP TEASING US!!! - carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Well, as with all concepts, it's never going to be released to production like it is now. We got a chance to interview the designer and he said the carbon fiber rims alone we're $6500, and that was just to reproduce them, not including the R+D behind them. Unfortunately, like all concepts, reality and desire are seperated by a wide margin, and this is a car that will certainly have a strong following, but will never see the light of day at $35k with these specs.
Lots more pics here:(Kind of a NSFW warning, nothing nude, but models nonetheless in some photos)

And please don't just digg down because you see links, they're of the smaller details of the FT-HS which really made it stand out from the rest at the Detroit Auto Show. Most specifically those rims! Man I hope they at least offer them...
BTW - The roof is retractable! - SickFinga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Since Honda Accord Hybrid cost $32,000, there is no way a sports car that looks like that, with 400hp going to cost $35,000.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19A supercar earth saving hybrid pretty as a Ferrari for the price of a Yugo?? That sounds as real as Duke Nukem Forevere. Not Vaporware at all...
- Deranged, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Supra was made until 1998 in USA, but production did not stop until 2002 in japan
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23Uhhg - Key word - Concept.
How do we know the 35K price if its a CONCEPT.
Also - supera date is wrong. Gosh, don't ***** tease me with that 35K number, damn you! - KyjL, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Why the Hell are you frowning?
- XTheEliminator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16@spartan777
Yeah, you also need the receeding hairline. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I'm sure we'll have flying cars any day now, once plutonium is available in every corner store. Back in 1955, it was just a little hard to come by.
- dw2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Also the article is wrong, as the supra was made until 2002, not 1997."
Well I dont know what you expected from a site called 'TrendPimp.com' - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12The Aztek!
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12There are plenty of $35k cars that can beat "a Porsche".
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You're right, this isn't a "green" concept car at all, but at low speeds the electric motor's high torque would produce a major boost in acceleration. Electric motors are more responsive than combustion engines, as well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15RIP American car industry :(
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8That's fake. And obviously so. What are you, retarded?
- eexlebots, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The new Camaro for one!
- noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I didn't see anywhere in the article where they gave evidence that it would be "faster than a Porsche." Define faster, anyway. Top speed? Acceleration? Typical of both sensationalist blogs and the idiots that actually believe that finished products will look and run anything like the concept.
- CraigB12, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Yeah, faster than a porsche boxter... which isn't very fast, so is a suburu
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Priuses aren't tough to get anymore, in fact, Toyota is running promotional leases on them now due to flat sales. And this is in Northern California, which is a very Prius-heavy area.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Clearly a concept. And the 5 mph bumpers alone will slaughter the current look, nevermind the other regulations.
And I really hope that people are able to discern that those on the street pics are marketing photoshops. - drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The word "any" is kinda ambiguous i guess. I meant it as "it can beat at least one porsche" as opposed to "it can beat all of them" .
- spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11it takes more than just raw speed to out-do a porshe.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"I'm sick and tired of seeing awesome futuristic concept cars that never make it to production. According to Back to the Future 2, we should have flying cars and skyways in 8 years."
Flying cars are impractical and would be a disaster. First, we'd have to come up with an energy source that would be adequate to keep a vehicle aloft at a relatively economical rate of fuel consumption and guess what? Fossil fuels aren't that energy source. So secondly, the oil companies would have to be defeated in order to push this technology through, a highly unlikely scenario. Finally, the technology would have to be manufactured cheaply enough so that at least the upper middle class can afford it.
Fact is, mankind does just fine driving on the ground and has no need or want of flying cars. Besides, do you REALLY want a distracted, silicone-pumped trophy wife driving her Lincoln Navigator in the AIR? People suck enough at driving on the ground, the last place they should be is in a cockpit. - rzrshrp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm sorry but I had to digg that comment back up because it made me laugh. I was tempted to comment complaining about all the cheesy ads and you actually want to know what happens in the video. Hopefully it was sarcasm.
- quailtamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nissan Z
- m00dy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most Porsche 911 models are in the 4 second range 0-60 MPH (except the Turbo which is in the 3 second range) GT is also in 3 second range.
- DenDen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I always digg DOWN these kind of stories. Sure, concepts are great to look at, but they're unimpressive. 95% of concepts are never put into production, the the 5 % that are never deliver the promises of the original concept. You want to impress me, just build the damn thing.
- Infinitas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2400HP and at 35K?
I have one word to describe this immense phenomena that contains so much *****... "bullshot!" - Mountaineer1024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, now that I think about it, there is a certain celica look to it.
http://www.supertuning.go.ro/galerie/toyota/toyota%20celica%204.jpg - mindbender9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Considering the price and the efficiency, the fact that it can beat ANY porsche makes it a ***** awesome car."
A Porsche GT, GT2 or GT3 would kill any car short of $80,000. Having driven a GT3 with traction control (not mine), I can attest to that. To make a claim that the new Toyota could beat ANY Porsche is misleading.
(But at $35K before the outrageous dealer markup? I'm hooked!) - AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -11/+13Faster than a Porsche and uglier than sin. Ugh.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Cirrius
Those are camera sideview "mirrors". That is why they are so small. - 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I saw the concept car at the NAIAS and guess what, it doesn't exist under that skin, neither do the actual pictures in that article and neither do those performance numbers or the sticker price. This is pure bench racing. This is the same as "oh yeah well my Civic is faster than a Porsche!!!" The difference is that Toyota has the R&D to pull it off, I won't be holding my breath though.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7sweet jesus, thats an awesome car. I love the shape of it, and hte fact that its a hybrid. Its a little expensive though(but a good value).
- fantasticjon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FJ Cruiser
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This looks like a great deal until you consider that the Honda Time-Travel-Mobile will beat it to market.
The Honda TTM has 26th-century technology, and it only costs $10 because they go back in time and invest the money in Microsoft, IBM, GE, and Coke.
It's too bad because it looks cool, but I'm sure we'll see the Honda TTM before we ever see this Toyota. - DiggRadar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The all electric Tesla is moving towards production, and it looks pretty cool. 0-60 in 4 seconds. Twice as efficient as a hybrid. Should ship this fall, and be initially priced around $92K. Prices will drop as supply catches up with demand.
http://www.teslamotors.com/styling/wallpaper.php - elk1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this article says nothing about efficient. im sure at high rpms when is delivering 400 horses it is going to burn tons of fuel. the hybrid label on this seems like more of a marketing move than anything else.
that being said its still a hot car - giveer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll hand it to Toyota, every single time someone submits this concept car as an article, it makes it to the front page.
[subtle 'stop submitting this' flavour to that line, in case anyone missed it] - LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Prius.
- SpaceDreamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3now that most people are mistaken into thinking that "hybrid" means "fuel-efficient",
car manufacturers can happily make hybrid gas-guzzlers !
and people are stupid enough to buy them!! yippee! - shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wait for the Tesla sedan in '08. Better value.
- rslc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A Hybrid with 3.5L engine? That probably makes it a super gas-guzzling car and not fuel efficient at all.
Everyone is using "Hybrid" for marketing nowadays.
when some european non-hybrid cars are already more fuel efficient than hybrid cars.
And btw, most new Electric / Serial Hybrid cars should be able to outrun Poshes.
Electric car is the future. See Tesla. - wildmXranat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+235,000 British pounds - maybe ?
- Nitro420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I believe the correct answer is the Pontiac Solstice / Saturn Sky.
- tech406, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6When is the last time a concept car made it to production?
