- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39/10 I think the key to telling is to look for imperfections. CG art tends to be too good to be true. The cork screw is a bit messy just after the screw. The bolt has a tiny bit of fold over where the thread is cut. etc.
Of course the BMW was my downfall. Why bother when 2 photos and a little retouching will get the same result. Unless you are doing it to prove your skills... in which case mission accomplished. - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yay, I get to try this out for the 5th time!

BMW: the building is to sharp of a point to be reflected on the round hood
Coffie Cup: The spoon with coffie on it still reflects the same amount as a spoon with out coffie on it
Diamonds: Don't refract light like that, have seem them in real life.
Wisks: white reflections don't match the color discrepancy you would get from a metallic reflecting on metallic
Monkeys: I spent the most time looking at that one because I thought it was a trick, IT LOOKS REALLY CGI... but after looking at the center of the wood on the center monkey you can see that the like is refracted as if it was painted with gloss vanish, but the face of another monkey doesn't do that. Somethings, like the Wooden Monkeys and the Egg-Beaters had NO dirt/deforms in it. It looked too perfect to be real. Also, its hard to place an item with a background like that. I expected to get at least 8/10 when I submitted, but was pleasant surprised with the full 10/10.

- dstreelm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+114/14 i thought it was a bit easy. for the BMW If you look at the cobblestones to the right of the car, its pretty easy to tell that it was fake. the problem with a lot of the CG images is that they don't show any difference in focus. For example, the nut and bolt was partially in and out of focus, but the cup of coffee was entirely in focus.

I got 8/10, the car looked quite real but apparently it was a CG. That corkscrew looked really fake... I mean it had all the little nicks and details of a real corkscrew but the shadowing seemed strange and the metal/fibrous sheet behind it looked computer generated.

although i do cg stuff so i know the things that are incredibly hard to pull off and i look for those.
I find that hte problem with most cg pictures is that things are too perfect and smooth when in real life, everything has flaws (scratches, dirt, minor dents, etc). - prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the diamonds were the easiest. They would've refracted light all over the surface they were sitting on.
