- dburka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50Hey there. I drew the digg logo from scratch, with no typeface as the base. This is similar in weight and shape, but there is no "Digg Font" per se. Just 3 characters hand drawn in Illustrator and Photoshop. Maybe someday I'd make an actual set out of it, but too busy right now.
- remiprev, on 10/12/2007, -10/+43With all that controversy regarding Digg's name trademark, I suggest you use this font to write anything but "Digg" ;-)
- revmitcz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Direct download to "Freedom", which is more likely the "official digg font" :
http://www.fontfinder.ws/12361/FFF-Freedom.html
BTW, fonts starting with the prefix "FFF" come from the wonderful FontsForFlash.com. Amazing fonts on that site, too. Some of them (like freedom and forward) have gone to freeware/shareware versions in recent times. Out of respect to the artist, you should all visit his site to double-check on the licensing and usage :

type digg in the box ;) - mb3581, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27This looks like it was made in MSPaint
- dburka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22And... hopefully we'll have more stuff available for custom stuff like iPods etc. soon.
- Cozmcphish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14or maybe illustrator work? :)
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11And there you have it folks, straight from the horse's mouth. No offense Dan :)
Nothing to see here, move along, nothing to see... - usherzx, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19that is not digg's font
- MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18yeah, and it's not diggs font either.
- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14why would any graphic designer leave the font the same? that's what illustrator and photoshop are for :)
- perre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8To start with, the digg font is very likely an altered variant of another font. Digg has good designers, and I can see them thinking a lot about their logo.
The linked font, above, looks a little weird in the preview because little checks are taken out of the corners. In the FFF Freedom I have and use, those jags aren't present, so I'll exclude them in my comments.
The "digg" font differs from FFF Freedom in a few ways: the distance between the body of the "g" and it's hanging tail is too narrow. The width of the holes in the d, g and g are not s wide as in the digg logo. That wideness adds a retro feel like you get with old computer fonts. If it were based on FFF Freedom, it's not a simple matter of letting or kerning to get it to look like digg's. It would require altering the font's shapes. But this is true in the font I suspect it is too. But not as much.
That said, it may be based on the pixel font called "hooge" which doesn't have the traditional font styles like "bold, heavy, thin, etc" but rather goes in a numbering system. The digg logo is most similar to 06_65 with the body of the i raised to meet the top of the g, and the d's arm raised to meet the new height of the i. That would get you pretty close. hooge is a part of the font collection called: "miniml"
An example, again it's pixel font so it was originally meant to be seen small, can be found here:
http://www.miniml.com/fonts/font/hooge_06_65/index.htm
You can buy hooge individually $10 or you can buy the collection $100 at their site:
http://www.miniml.com/
The fonts come in handy if you're doing small font work or pixel art as it always remains crisp. - perre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6oops, while I was writing that, it looks like Daniel Burka chimed in to explain the font's origin. See his comment above.
- porkstacker, on 10/12/2007, -27/+33Truetype format? Where's the Postscript version?
- revmitcz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Oops, I should mention that if you go to the FFF site - you can get a "free trial" of Freedom. That's all the characters A-Z upper and lowercase, but none of the extras like accent marks and "@" symbols, etc. Still, it's hard to beat free :)
- zeifers, on 11/04/2007, -8/+13the pix dont look like it.
- noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7its pretty similar but not quite the same.
the digg logo font might be based on this font - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I think they may have used this font as more of a stencil and rounded the edges a bit (as well as close in that line in each of the lowercase letters).
Still a nice find! :) - AnalystX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have a SVG duplicate of the logo, which could be imported into Illustrator and turned into anything you like. To Digg Staff: I have no intentions of using it for commercial purposes or on a "*digg*" branded site. If it's all right to release into the wild, I would be happy to. For those who are wondering why I have the logo, it's because I enjoy collecting (and vectorizing) logos of companies or organizations I'm interested in. I have the ZD logo in SVG as well.
- djjuice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4its close... the letter i is off and there are indents on the lower case letters, this was here before once.. always look at the letter "i" that'll tell you if its the correct font or not
- kilps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Anyone thought that perhaps Digg doesn't have a font as such and that most of the logo is based around some nice photoshop/illistraiter work?
- frogpelt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I don't think that's it.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All I want is a vector EPS of the logo so I can have it laser engraved on my iPod.
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So make it yourself. Copy the logo onto a layer in Illustrator, zoom in, take your trusty pen tool and trace it. If all you are doing is engraving, all you'll need is the outline. Add a simple gradient matching the colors and you're money.
- handheldchimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3These are not the fonts you are looking for.
- panic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree. There are some similarities but this is definitely not the same one used on Digg, at least not without some modifications.
- itsnotvalid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2By the way, when did digg become digg(TM)? in the header.png?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Deff not the font whoever posted this has serious eyesight issues.
- ThirstyFerret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I would not say it is definately the font, but I would not say it is not it either...
Looks very similiar, maybe as someone said it was used as a stencil. All good designers should play around with it a bit, after all. - squenix1221, on 10/12/2007, -12/+13Direct Download to font
http://www.1001fonts.com/fonts/win/ttf/2580/FFF_Forward.zip - MouseRunner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn’t have any idea where to digg this but I figured that fans of digg might dig this for their desktops.
I found this dig wallpaper on GraphicsGuru.com
http://www.graphicsguru.com/diggwallpaper.jpg
Just thought that I’d share. - deathsquadx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2CONGRATULATIONS KILPS!!
"illistraiter" best word of the day!! - revmitcz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Looks to me like they just added a layer style that used a gradient from top-left to lower-right on each letter - creating the illusion of "rounded edges". If you look closely, you'll see the edges are just darkened, not rounded.
And I'm still thinking FFF Freedom is the right font, and FFF Forward is a variant on that font that includes lines within the fontface. - slantyeyed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you can go about your business . . . move along
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Is finding out Digg's font such a holy grail-event that it warrants yet another story on this?
Digg's "font" could just as well be hand crafted art for its logo.
And why is it interesting anyway? It helps people building cool Digg rip-offs? - jogeek, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8please bury this crap. how the hell is this on the front page?
- hifiDesign, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2For future reference: when in doubt, search via http://whatthefont.com and see what comes up.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Definitely not the font. As Dan said, there is no font, but Kanal is pretty close.
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/t26/kanal/normal-regular/ - blankartist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try www.whatthefont.com and look it up.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I dont know if this the actual font that Digg uses, but i remember reading an article where Cory from boingboing.net accused digg of copying their font.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3It seems that every time someone links to FFF Forward (it happened lots of times / just search Digg ) the debate begins : till now Forward is actually the Digg font ( but usually the first comments count - because you read them before actually reading the story and creating an original perspective. But who the ***** care. Digg is now a sheep farm and I think I`ll be coming here just for videos also ( see the other story )
- techietim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2its that much easyer to make a digg clone...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I used to have it, ill try and remember what it is called.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It's not a font, just 3 letters put together to make a logo.
- DoodleFlash, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"By the way, when did digg become digg(TM)? in the header.png?"
It makes them look cooler and more professional, duh. - crexor, on 10/12/2007, -13/+9Is anyone actually clicking the link to look at the font? it 'maybe' looks like the digg font, at best. Report As Innaccurate to help remove this rubish from front page.
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2This just PROVES that there are tons of morons at digg.com
- Phegan, on 10/12/2007, -17/+11You know, complaining about '***** children' is a good way to get dugg down too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Gawd, is it ugly!
- phil.busch, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1When I clicked the link, 33 other firefox windows opened... but the second time it didn't happen. Exploit, or Firefox flaw?
