- sinatosk, on 10/11/2007, -18/+7and what is wrong with Adobe Apollo???
nice application. Would be nice if I could log into it like digg.com. I don't think digg api services allow that though - digitalme, on 10/11/2007, -14/+13@sinatosk
The problem with Apollo is that it's not cross platform. - Universal, on 10/11/2007, -23/+11@digitalme
"The problem with Apollo is that it's not cross platform."
Um, yes it is. - jbus, on 10/11/2007, -10/+35@Universal
No it isn't... It's not available to Linux/BSD users.
Keep in mind that Linux desktop users alone outnumber Mac users. So, it is ridiculous that Adobe thinks its OK not to provide Linux/BSD users a plug-in and still try to call this "cross platform". - jdc760, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Apollo:DeveloperFAQ#Does_Apollo_support_Linux
- sgtpinback, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9@jbus,
it's also not available to BeOS users. cross-platform does not equal all platforms. - ThatsUnpossible, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Linux desktop users outnumber Mac users? Can you back that claim up?
- insanebrain, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1- "stop peddling apollo on us."
Stop post the same post OVER and OVER again ... it's getting boring - noopzilla!, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2is there a reason EVERY SINGLE one of these finalists is on the front page of digg as a separate story?
isnt that a bit unnecessary? - sinatosk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1@jdc760 and that is why I didn't bother replying... they are quick to say Apollo doesn't support Linux, assuming cross-platform means every platform, talking like they know all that... reminds me of When Adobe Flash 9 was not going to be developed for Linux, Logitech will not doing drivers for Vista, MySQL no longer doing binaries... when infact it's not true
Adobe Apollo is in alpha ( not beta ) and well the link you provided... plus they been saying Apollo will come to Linux for the past 9 months or more and they will release the Linux version after they are done with Windows and Mac OSX version ( just like they did with the Flash 9 ) and Apollo was release not long ago
so I'm gonna asked jonrohan again... what is wrong with Adobe Apollo??? - gklitt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@digitalme
No, the problem with Apollo is that no one has it.
- sinatosk, on 10/11/2007, -18/+7and what is wrong with Adobe Apollo???
- lockfist, on 10/11/2007, -7/+10This is actually pretty sweet. It'll never win though... two installs???
- boombashi, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5once you install the Apollo runtime environment it is only one install - you just don't have Apollo installed yet.
- Universal, on 10/11/2007, -15/+4Oops, PLEASE! bury this.
- spyrochaete, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Is there some other reason we'd want Apollo installed? Sorry to say, but 2 installs is 2 installs too many for me. All the other entries I checked out were web-based, and one didn't even require me to enable scripts to work.
- erikwoods, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3awesome.
- ryanthethief, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2I'll second that awesome and add a "SWEET."

- digitalme, on 10/11/2007, -12/+5Doesn't work on Linux = worthless.
- Raian, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8How do I uninstall Apollo on my mac-- damn adobe
- KSUdesigner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Apollo:Documentation:Installing_the_Apollo_runtime_and_sample_applications
- darkhero, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I had to turn on my Vista Computer to use it and it sucks balls. I can't support anything that doesn't support Linux. I don't understand why the ***** anybody would use Apollo. What is so special. If it run inside firefox it would be cool. But installing something is so 2006.

- kuailman, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2I r on ur desktops reading ur diggs.
- spancho, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2there seams to be a common problem with the Apollo apps listed in this contest. I have a MacBook, and when try to scroll with the the track pad and my two fingers, it doesnt work! Or, rather its not so much that it doesnt work so much as it scrolls the wrong way. Dumb Mistake.
- stalefries, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I've had that problem with Tremulous (an FPS), but only sort of. To scroll up, I have to "violently" scroll up, that is, a lot more than what I think would be enough. Otherwise, it scrolls the opposite way than intended. Is that what's happening to you?
- Rufasevach, on 10/11/2007, -7/+5excellent app---perfect microcosm of digg. :-)
made me happy just seeing it update on my desktop like a larger, friendlier widget that didn't hose my system resources.
and yes it IS cross-platform.- digitalme, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4It doesn't work on Linux--it isn't cross platform.
- freehunter, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4It IS cross platform. Cross platform means it is available on more than one system, which it is. Windows and Mac. Two systems. More than one system. Cross platform. I am running Linux, so I can't see it, and I am disappointed by not being able to see it, but I'm not going to go as far as trying to claim that Mac and Windows are not two separate platforms.
- kenvsryu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21Hmm I'm sick of these individual digg contests posts.
- eXCubed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1It seems to have trouble with some of the URLs. For instance, the article "The top 10 dead (or dying) computer skills" links to:
http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9020942&source=rss_news50
but D'Lite links to:
http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command
[LOL: Captcha for this comment is bUG 83]- xmrcivicboix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3thanks for catching that. I just fixed it. =)
- ilkeryoldas, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Meh... lame!
- finaldarkone, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Rock on dude. you're a shoe-in. Asphyncterdiggsdown?
- Pingspike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Nifty little thing. Shame its slathered in buggs and cant actually be used as intended. Neat and tidy implementation though. kudos.
- NSMike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Did you purposely use two "g"s on "buggs" or was that subconscious?
I think someone has a digg addiction.
- NSMike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Did you purposely use two "g"s on "buggs" or was that subconscious?
- dSlifer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I love the look of it, and would love to keep it up on my desktop, but three of the four Apollo apps would start up, then give me a runtime error and all I could do is click OK to close it. Sad.
- mokolabs, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3Right now, dburka has 8 stories on the homepage. WTF?
- stalefries, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Well, he is a Digg employee. He knew about all the finalists first, so he submitted all of them first.
- joshers13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Did you read the contest rules? The entry with the most diggs wins. Of course he submitted them all. It's his job.
- datagod, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Apollo might be cool, but I really don't want to install yet another "platform". I have over 7 computers in my house that I use regularly. I don't want to have to install this thing 7 times....
- zaibatsu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Where's Starbuck?
- nutcase, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2what does it do that digg.com doesn't?
it is easier fo me to just open my browser and go to digg, where is the added value to this baby?- finaldarkone, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1it sits on your desktop like a widget.
- nutcase, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1widgets are for kids
- Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Anyone using apollo for their app is instantly a non-winner to me.
- locnguyen, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Care to share why? Thanks.
- adz999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1NOT CROSS PLATFORM! One platform to another is cross platform...
- Bishoco, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Groove is in the Heart?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKTCW4oxS6I - nutcase, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1javascript:alert('I Love ' + 'Sundays Mondays Tuesdays Wednesdays Thursdays Fridays Saturdays'.split(' ')[new Date().getDay()]+'!');
- rdecast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Unrelated question, but have been meaning to find somewhere to ask. How come Digg took away the feature to search within your own diggs? i remember discussions about it awhile ago, but don't remember what came of it.
thanks! - oeddie, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0"The problem with Apollo is that it's not cross platform."
I think the problem is that is is yet another platform... - Kratos76, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Not the right way to do a digg contest folks.
- cemeteralgarden, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Pointless++
- zappo1776, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Very nice app. I like the favorites so I don't clutter up my bookmarks. I wish I could resize it though.
- Bob042, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1It's nice and looks good, but I don't see the point of it if it just has to open up a browser tab/window when you want a story. I might as well just keep a Digg tab open then. Also, no subcategories isn't too good.
- psychobabble, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0This name is taken.
http://www.penguinmagic.com/dlite.php
By a magic store. - xmrcivicboix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2One thing that I have yet to understand is that users have the ability to pick winners. If someone is popular on Digg doesn't mean they write great applications. Similarly, just because someone is popular on American Idol doesn't mean they're the better singer. Get the drift here? All I'm saying here is that the judges should base the top 3 finalists on the criterion that they set out on. Win or lose, I would still be more happy if the judges are the ones that determine who wins. My .02 cent.
- ayeroxor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You should be banned just for a nick like "(ex!) Mr Civic Boi (ex!)"
It's like some horrible flashback to 12-year-olds on AOL in 1993. Granted, my nick is tongue-in-cheek leetspeak. But at least Avril Lavigne and I don't intentionally misspell the same cutesy words. *And* somehow I managed to avoid putting useless letters all around my nick.
- ayeroxor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You should be banned just for a nick like "(ex!) Mr Civic Boi (ex!)"
- LifeIsADancer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Neat application but what is the point of it? i can just use my browser (firefox!) & Why do I have to install Apollo? Anyone care to explain.
- war59312, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Installing Apollo causes my PC to blue screen. Running vista 32bit. :(
- jabdigg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Awesome app!!!!!!!
- dSlifer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I loved the application when it first appeared, and have since started using AIR for other things (Such as the new Pownce :P) Anyway, I want to attempt loading this again, but it's saying it isn't supported anymore :(
Any chance for updates??? - pinok45, on 03/03/2008, -0/+0Hi gays, very interesting topic. Thanks so much
