- synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37Im usually pretty supportive and pleased to digg photoshop/design-related tutorials, but this one is crap.
- steveo2112, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Why not do what the pros do...
SCAN AN IMAGE OF TORN PAPER AND USE THAT INSTEAD
It's amazing the amount of time/work people will spend in PS filter hell rather than going for the easier/faster/better solution. - alai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Very cool tutorial, I really like the look of the final result. Doesn't quite look like torn paper edges though...
- DirkBelig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7/ The link will 404 unless you delete the last period.
- CreativeGuy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11The tutorial sucks and the end result looks neither ripped or torn... or even like an edge for that matter. But I like some of the other things on the site, so I'll Digg.
- astronaut, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7um, yeah...not so great. Here's a better one: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/ps_tornedges-intermediate.shtml.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Not as much as using the annoying term "tut."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Here's an idea: Scan some torn paper.
- NoSpeakoIngles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5There are far better tutorials on the web for the same effect which don't come out like crap.
Try

OR
http://www.good-tutorials.com/ - JustMatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Kinda looks more like sponged/blotched edges.
- Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That was the first thing that came to my mind as well.
But I guess it's good enough for beginners. - aldenhg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I wholeheartedly agree.
- tigerpaper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That definately doesn't look anything like a torn piece of paper.
Why not just tear a REAL piece of paper and then SCAN IT. - catpounce004, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This tutorial sucks: not a good result on the image.
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1take a piece of paper. tear it. put it on your scanner. leave the top open. when you scan it the paper will show as white and the open scanner will be black. do a white and black balance on the appropriate areas. use you image as a mask.
there. i saved you from reading a stuipid tutorial. - jdonner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oops, did I just notice a bug in Digg's web design. Oh well, wasn't intentional.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Yeah, my first thought was that it looked like the bottoms of muddy shoes or something.
- wulfflower, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It looks too fuzzy to look like torn paper. There are better tutorials out there why are you digging it?
- jdonner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0====================================================================================
1070 right now for a tutorial that's not good (just read all the comments).
How more cheating do we need? There are even complete threads on web design forums dedicated to this, heck even people form digg groups. Digg... the concept was nice, but sadly anything online with a rating can so easily be faked.
=================================================================================== - patbell, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Wow, you are all so negative. Looks like you're all feeding off of one another!
I found this helpful and the looked came out exactly as described...Thanks! - mabufo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why are photoshop tutorials featured on digg?
- dani8559, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Never felt the compulsion to bury something before. Should be filed under "ubiquitous things you could find via google 5 years ago."
- TheCardinal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Doesn't look like ripped/torn edges, but it does look alot like home made paper.
- Stevieb1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty good tool. For those who can't read, the title says Ripped and Torn Edges. If I need to distress a digital photo or create a custom DVD button I sure as hell can't scan a torn piece of paper and get what I need done. This is for TORN EDGES, not TORN PAPER.
- ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This really does suck, the end result is not realistic at all, if your gonna try and promote your website, atleast have something worthly to submit to digg. LAME.
- Virion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's actually not too shabby, admittedly I've always just torn and scanned in portions of papers, but the outcome there would be fine for an amateur without a scanner looking to do something nice and effective.
- TheFoppishRhino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that tutorial does a good job showing all the details. one thing that the dugg article is missing is shadows, for one.
- nosferatoo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Why are people submitting so many of this this lame-ass photoshop tutorials?
It's totally uninteresting and not Digg worthy... - MrAction408, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0seriously, the end result sucks
- Kajico, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Lame PS-101. You can learn this on your own.
- Recode, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5I agree. it doesn't look like what it claims to be at all. I've seen better.
- theaftercrash, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6agreed
- MiDri, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Some times it is not about the destination, but rather the journey.
- cmyk, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5Yup. Looks like a fart.
- lyonesskim, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0this is just a simple one. sorry that it made the digg list.
- samfishercell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Seriously, I get tired of all the lame Photoshop tutorials. I can't believe people try to pass this stuff off as legit, this would get a real designer FIRED.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Yeah scanning stuff in is much easier than spending ages trying to work out how to do it with just Photoshop.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1"Here's an idea: Scan some torn paper."
Good idea. I think even open source software can handle that! - joseph93, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4That's a very cool effect (dunno why your comment was dugg down, snicholes)
- blindr, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0yeah... whats the point of posting tuts when there are many better than this.. also this tut stinks..
- snicholes, on 10/12/2007, -16/+8Nice design tutorial.
