- 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This is an interesting idea, but people should remember that traditional fonts look the way they do because of a painstaking design process. Traditional type designers have gone thorugh great effort to make sure that each glyph is visually 'compatible' with others in the same set. It's not something one can accomplish by simply throwing together a series of stylistically similar glyphs. The results may look "ok," and passable for casual work, but there's quite a bit more to it if one is to do it correctly.

This is a cool idea for casual use, but you're right - proper type design requires serious skill and training. And then, since type forms can't be copyrighted (only the names can), the monetary returns are minimal.

It's for making bitmap fonts that are not meant to be anti-aliased or even really used for print, but for use on web sites at small point sizes. I personally use a similar type of font for copyright info on pages I've designed. Small and legible.
And, it's a pretty cool web app. - Mahlke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The tool is actually more educational rather than useful, because you learn that making a font may be easy, but making a font that would look good and be usable is really damn hard... Well at least I failed at it.

- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wish they had a torrent of all the fonts. Sure, some of them are incomplete asscrap, but others are actually very decent, perhaps even to the point of rivaling a lot of system fonts.
