I liked seeing it anyhow, even if it could have stood to have audio and a clearer picture. From looking at it, I actually think the end product could be imitated in inkscape without too much effort.

- Morrison, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Whoever made this video did do a good job creating the "look" he was going for with simple moves. Photoshop is much more powerful than this demo shows.
IE: Rendering, Shading, Light Sources or Channels (not gradients), Blended layers (keep your blues separate so they can be adjusted later / blend to transparent, never to another color), adjusting curves.....

It's not that everybody SHOULD already know how to do this in Photoshop. That makes an assumption that every digg reader uses Photoshop.

BTW, crappy aqua tutorials don't constitute news and definitely don't constitute design. Anyone who went to school for it is thoroughly insulted right now, and if you aren't then you didn't pay enough attention...

1. Photoshop is the WRONG TOOL for this job - Use a Vector Illustration Program (Inkscape, Xara, Illustrator, Freehand) The results are more consistent, and you can change colors sizes etc without losing quality.
2. This style of button/orb is now so overused, that nobody should even be interested in teaching how to do it, let alone learning it. Seriously, look into some newer design trends, such as curvilinear organic artwork, minimalist icons and buttons, unorthodox angles, etc. If you want to do this type of work, at least find the time to get a foundation.
3. This is horrible. Why make a video tutorial at such low resolution? Why? If you want to show how great HD picture quality is, you don't show it on a black and white TV. In addition, without audio, it is just watching some idiot playing with his toys. ;/
