- Aggort, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8These are simply awesome and well thought. These would be impressive to see in actual use.
- MadNuke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It is incredibly clever to extract beautiful color palettes which compliment each other from famous paintings. It would be further interesting to see websites which herald to these paintings. At the very least, the color combinations are complimentary and interesting.
- melonhedd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4At least Thomas Kinkade is not here

- crash128, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That was a fun article. I just can't help imagining any of these artists walking into a paint store and saying, "Hey, whatever's on sale. I'll make it work."
Which is also why paintings today are much better than before, cause of the color matching / mixing systems found at stores like home depot. Although I hear that "serious" artists (quote, unquote) prefer lowes.
(new comment system needs a little work, colors are ok though). - Jadael, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Color theory applies to pretty much any visual medium that isn't black & white, not just paint. Web design, collage, interior design, graffiti... It's not just about mixing pigments. That's a very small fraction of it, if even that. I'd call being able to mix paint a tool technique, not a creative ability. Being able to decide on the color you want is the part that color theory deals with.
A lot of people learn it intuitively, going off vague ideas of color wheels and temperature.
And even in black & white mediums, value is still technically color. - sdcarter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2American English... makes so much sense in some cases and so little sense in others

- familynight, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Shockingly enough, this article isn't a top ten list. Unfortunately, I'm unable to answer the question as to why anyone would write an article in a non-top ten list fashion. Really, really odd. I think that the author's personal taste in art may have been the sole criterion. Again, pretty strange.
Seriously though, the article doesn't even purport to contain the works of art with the best use of color, merely color palettes from great works of art. - fishpicker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3How did Frazetta not make this list? Frazetta's use of color was wild and sublime. He made the oddest color combos work well and look fantastic.
If color is the sole critirii, I dont know how Rennaissance painters made the list but Baroque seems under-represented - gettarat, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1did digg change the comment look?!
http://homedepothours.com/ - ozonew4m, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1I work in color everyday with my site at http://www.color-chart.org but i have to say i have never seen quality such as this.... outstanding!!
- fishpicker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree, to a point. digital art kind of bypasses the need for advanced color theory. even if the colors I put to virtual canvas are wonky, I could use an adjustment layer to even things out.
- fishpicker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Correction: you must study color theory to be a master painter. nothing, aside from dedication, is required to be a master artist.
- fishpicker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yup. I would elaborate but your statement has it covered
- fishpicker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2yep. And those color palettes wont look the same to everyone who views them. (CRT monitor vs LCD for example)
