- pathetik, on 10/27/2007, -3/+152The NEW design looks OLDER
- S201, on 10/27/2007, -4/+111I think he means the layout is the same just the graphics have changed. (Slightly) Personally, I don't like it. It makes the can look...older. And I don't see how it has anything to do with the Coke Side of Life. Unless there is something special on the back of the can.
- EmmiexBear, on 10/27/2007, -5/+94A duller, less aesthetically pleasing Coke can definitely makes me want "to be spontaneous, listen to my heart and live in full color."
/sarcasm - Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+85@klayborg: Maybe "Maybe" is the correct spelling.
- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+80Here are the new Pepsi cans for 2007:
http://memoriesbox.blogspot.com/2007/02/agentia-tribal-ddb-dallas-digital.html - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+70Wow... from what I can tell from the image, they reduced the design is a very simplistic, barebones 1-colour + white design... it would have taken even a junior graphic designer all of a 1/2 hour to create.
So, basically, Coke wants to save money on their cans. And then they just write up some ***** to make it sound important and hip. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42did anyone read this comment
"If I drink a cola I will choose Pepsi over Coke however I have used Coke to remove bumper stickers.(For some reason Pepsi will not remove the sticky goo as well as Coke.) I most often drink bottle water and some juices. I occasionally purchase soft drinks from an Asian market and I find them to be overly sweet. But my favorite thing to do is to try water bottle in other countries. My favorite so far has been water from Austrailia!"
some kind off thirst nerd!! - wevegotthejazz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+51they should just go back to original 1885 recipe :)
Put the Coke back in the Cola! - AhmadMF, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44I recent you
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37COKE RED:
C: 4%
M: 100%
Y: 85%
K: 0%
It's a unique spot colour, but it's made up of that CMYK value. - djruden, on 10/12/2007, -11/+45I disagree, sarcasm on the internet should always be marked as such or it was go over too many people's heads.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34I understand what he is saying though. The font is the same, its just as though they took the "bold" setting off of it.
Now Cherry Coke, that had a redesign that would be worth digging (actually, not it wouldn't be, but it would be compared to this change in can design). - rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35I saw the "new look" sign on a vending machine here in Japan, and I bought a bottle to look at it... without the side by side, you wouldn't notice.
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31What? It looks like usenet.
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27did u see the first comment on the page?
"That's gonna go well in Japan, Lefleshing and uprifting!"
***** up, but hilarious - appletalk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33It's shame Hiro Nakamura won't get to see it, since he's still in New York.
- olliholliday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24"We live in a world where we make choices every day and 'The Coke Side of Life' encourages people to make those choices positive ones," said Marc Mathieu, senior vice president for carbonated soft drink core brands, marketing, srategy and innovation. "This new campaign invites people to create their own positive reality, to be spontaneous, listen to their hearts and live in full color."
give that guy a raise, that's some top quality *****! - kelway, on 10/12/2007, -11/+34It's perfect... It recaptures the Americana aspect of Coke, which after all is its greatest appeal. Just as watching the Superbowl cover to cover leaves you feeling like you're about to experience an epileptic fit from all the flashing tack, the current (not-new) can makes it appear that maybe we have finally mastered the use of every Photoshop filter ever made. The dull red and sharp white lines make me thirsty...thirsty for a tasty beverage and thirsty for simpler times.
- billybob476, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Naw if it was Web 2.0 Coke it'd have to be renamed to Cokr 2.0 Beta or something.
- stlcadet11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@pifko....
Hit the damn green thumb. I don't want to see your lol's - pondster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17you would be surprised on how often coke changes their cans. I used to work for a company that made their signage for local shops and we had access to their cache of logo's, I remember one change because the bubbles were different - Their color red is even a secret - "Coke Red".
- foxymcfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@ pondster: Just like their "secret" formula, there really is no "secret coke red." Anyone who wants it can get access to the Pantone value for it. I used to have it, but I don't know where I put it. If/when I find it, I will post it here.
- Sippi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Looks like they switched to a 2-color process to save money when printing the cans.
- Ghostgum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Looks like Coke wants to get back to their roots.
New cans have identical branding to Coke during the 1960's & 70's. The shape of the can itself may have been updated, but the label looks just the same as days of yore. - DontSayFanboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Ok gramps. Take a nap.
- appletalk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I guess it was their goal... There must be some research behind this decision.
- Pac56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I couldn't give a flying truck.
- redlemon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12i do. i love coke. specifically coca cola classic. this is much better than another HDR image, some hate about muslims, another global warming post, etc etc etc.
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"it's the whole "plain is in" thing. have you seen adobe's new cs3 style? i love it. no more BS, just tell me what i'm consuming."
The more common way to say it is, "Less is More." It's a very true statement. - AntoineDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The retro look sounds like a good idea, but it feels unfinished (from what I can see on that pic anyway) ... frankly I think they thought too much about it and the end result won't be that significant for buyers. Nobody will notice.
- derekivey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9http://duggmirror.com
- cielo23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"The Coke Side of Life" ................. Sounds like an in-depth documentary about urban America
- theOster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8it's the whole "plain is in" thing. have you seen adobe's new cs3 style? i love it. no more BS, just tell me what i'm consuming.
- cds0528, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12wow, they looked alright until I saw the word "groovy" underneath it... I threw up in my mouth a little bit... either way, at least pepsi actually stuck a design on it...
- ioral, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"cheap asian knockoff"... a comment brought to you by willy wong!
/sarcasm? - SonicBoom1000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It looks like a downgrade...but it looks retro which I guess is kind of cool...
- jalapeno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This digg story is riveting..What's next? News at 11! Coke has Carbon Dioxide in it! Global warming advocates up in arms!
- b3mus3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Kind of a cool job really, where people expect you to talk ***** all the time. I wonder if you get into the habit.
"no dear, that dress doesn't make your bum look big. In fact, in a world full of darkness and trouble I believe that the bright and sunny colours of your dress will help bring happiness into peoples lives and help them make the world a brighter place. The innovative use of flowery patterns invites onlookers to believe in themselves and the power of nature, and allow themselves to be their very best."
etc etc - ScottPictures, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"We live in a world where we make choices every day and 'The Coke Side of Life' encourages people to make those choices positive ones,"
Coke is not your mother, it's a tasty beverage. - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah like the cans they used to sell in school, maybe they're old school.
- rimco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Hey, look at the comment up about 10 posts by "kelway" and how it's not dugg... I don't think anybody got his/her sarcasm. Honestly, yes, a good writer should be able to imply sarcasm without actually calling it out... so in other words, everybody's right!
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Now there's some designs I can digg.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@ jamief0
"If it goes over their heads, they don't deserve to "get it"."
Only problem is - if there are enough idiots on digg that dont get it - they mod you down. And then the people that would get it - dont see it.
Most places sarcasm should speak for itself, but at times, it needs a tag just so idiots dont respond to it and waste our time - naery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i live in japan. i noticed the change on the bottles right away. the red is a little softer and the font is a little more feminine and there are now the words "refreshing and uplifting" written under the words coca-cola. And the cap is also different, now with the outline of a bottle with "cocacola.jp" written across the middle of it and the standard japanese thing of having "open" and "close" written in japanese kana next to the appropriate arrow. So it looks like this (if Digg will support the kana): しめる <--- あけるーーー>
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I like the new look because it looks retro and I like retro designs :)
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11R - e - c - e - n - t = Recent.
R - e - s - e - n - t = Resent. - DrZibbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Forget coke, when is YOO-HOO going to redesign it's bottle?
- fLUx1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The site is slow......heres just the image:
http://www.japantoday.com/jp/news/dbfiles/news/5007.jpg - gjohnson352, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The color for Coke isn't secret...it's PMS 485. Nice, deep and rich. C'mon now...secrets? That's a stretch.
- sscamatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's just to save money. They only need 2 colors for the new can (Red, White) while they needed to print 4 colors for the old can (Red, White, Black, Yellow)
