Your life is so incomplete. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -42/+110it looks like a mustang
- jcounterman, on 10/11/2007, -15/+79I don't konw if the speedometer is ugly, but its definately not functional. No tic marks between 25mph and 50mph? I'd think you'd want it to be a bit more precise than that.
- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -5/+53"No tic marks between 25mph and 50mph? I'd think you'd want it to be a bit more precise than that."
I may be wrong, but I think it displays your precise speed on the LCD in the middle and a general speed on that speedometer. - bwhite, on 10/11/2007, -2/+49Duh ... it is for the Flux Capacitor.
- quomen, on 10/11/2007, -13/+53I'll go against the grain and say it looks a bit ugly..
It looks like the Cheshire Cat from Alice in the Wonderland.. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+40Wait, are you telling me that this sucker is NUCLEAR!?
- Murfshay22, on 10/11/2007, -11/+49I dont know about this... it reminds me of a mix between the current Cadillacs and the Current Mustang GT.
that was just my initial reaction.
Edit: tomplansmedia caught part of it as well. - zackkitzmiller, on 10/11/2007, -9/+46Burried for overuse of stunning.
- ChromaVita, on 10/11/2007, -14/+46The people that say that every remake of these older cars from the 70's look like the new mustang, obviously doesn't recognize the styling cues that make each car its own, just like when the styles were originally used back then. I've heard people say that the new challenger looks too much like the new mustang, which is ridiculous.
- carve, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27Wow- nice job. If only they had put this into production immedately after they stopped producing the last F-body, GM might actually be able to get some where. This car has it's time and place, and that time in place is 5-years ago when retro was new, and gas was $1/gallon. By the time this comes out, we'll already be seeing the next iteration of the Mustang, and gas will be selling for $4.50+/gallon.
Don't get me wrong- it looks like a great car. GM is just, as usual, WAY late to the party. - stealthboy, on 10/11/2007, -20/+43meh.
- Caruthers, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24Is that a nuclear radiation symbol?

- AZTriGuy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+24Bitchin' Camaro, Bitchin' Camaro!
I ran over my neighbor!
Bitchin' Camaro, Bitchin' Camaro!
It was in all the papers!
Dead Milken FTW! - slickriven, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18It's not a rip off of the new Mustang's grille, it's a retro revisit to the extremely popular '69 Camaro grille, the whole car is a retro approach to the '69 version and for good reason, that car looked great then and now and is still a very popular car for enthusiasts.
- dclowd9901, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19Who is this car for? if that engine compartment is how the final engine is actually going to look (it probably won't look like that), it looks like a nightmare to work on. The tinkerer's of the Camaro's bygone era aren't going to know what to do with all that aluminum and plastic.
- newanalog, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19Camaros are the Mercedes Benz for rednecks.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -13/+26I bet you wont be proud of the retro handling.
- lordmike, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Sorry, but a Camaro without a T-Top just ain't bitchin'.
Thanks,
Mike - msapirate, on 10/11/2007, -15/+27yup stunningly ugly.
edit. doh someone beat me to using clever wordplay already. - brimg87, on 10/11/2007, -24/+36Stunning; this is something my fellow Americans can be truely proud of. I can't wait to see this on the roads. I think this goes beyond simply "retro", to me it looks futuristic with classic roots.
- dangerz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Actually, the same guy in charge of this project was in charge of the Saturn Sky. He does his best to produce functional concepts, which means that what you see here is what he wants at production.
- brimg87, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11The article says that 90% of what you see will be in the production car. Things like the steering wheel are changing because the production one needs an airbag.
- Bhuinga, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14V8 Pffft, My Camero is a nuke bitch!
- thgreatoz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14You never will...unfortunately the auto companies are so concerned with making cars appeal to everyone that the thing will be put through focus group after focus group, and they'll gradually whittle away at all the features that make this car unique until it's just another generic sports car out on the freeway.
- Logik, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10That shroud will come off easily. It's also a concept. The shroud was aluminum. That won't be on the final production models. They'll use the same ol plastic.
But I suspect he was looking at the logo on the front of the engine cover. LS2. No slouch in the engine department by any stretch of the imagination. - Scrubby, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16I think this should be my mid-life crisis car! GM did an awesome job!
- Evgeny, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10To "thewump":
Horsepower isn't everything. Yeah, you can add 10 turbochargers to anything to make it produce massive horsepower. However, look at the torque output, and both horsepower and torque curves. Show me one of those 2.0ls with a linear curve that puts out the equivalent of a v6, or a v8 as you're claiming here. And keep in mind that as well designed as they are, non-naturally aspirated engines tend to wear out much quicker than naturally aspirated ones due to the forced induction.
Besides, what does displacement matter when you're still getting the same fuel economy? Take the LS7 for instance - 7 liters of displacement, nearly 30mpg highway. Show me a 2.0l that puts out 500 horsepower (or nearly 600 with simple exhaust and header modifications) that will do that. - republicker, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Officer: How fast do you think you were going?
Driver: Oh I dont know, between 50 and 75. - piper999, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9@shark
Nothing wrong with Astons but really, if you were going to make the road trip from LA to Las Vegas would you rather do it in a convertible Camaro or a Mini Cooper?
Obviously a Rolls Royce would look cooler on the Weston-Super-Mare seafront than a Camaro as you send your chauffeur off to pick up your cod, chips and mushy peas in the pissing rain.
For those of us who not only like to be able to afford to purchase the cars we like but actually have fun with them as well then a convertible car like the Camaro is way more cool than the cars you mention.
Note: if I ever win the lottery then an Aston Martin would still be higher on my shopping list than a Camaro. Obviously a much better car and I won't argue about that. - rebopper, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10No, its the CD burner icon.
- fix8ed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@shark
Different strokes for different folks man, relax. If you don't like the car, just don't buy it.
And don't come bitching on some website when a 2009 Camaro blows the doors off of your mini cooper when you try to race him. - k3yFrame, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12Truly an amazing combination of modern style and classic design. I had the pleasure of seeing this at the Dallas Auto Show. I couldn't look away.
- piper999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7To put something in perspective here, Toyota cars in general no longer get more gas mileage than American cars and are no longer significantly more reliable. The designs and manufacturing methods are equivalent across the industry now.
The biggest reason Toyota maintain an advantage is that they do not pay their workers the same expensive benefits as US manufacturers. This means they make almost $2000 more profit per car they sell in America than the US manufacturers even though their cars are for all intents and purposes exactly the same.
And...Toyota doesn't even make a sportscar. I guess this is because they made a strategic decision that fuel economy and practicality would drive the market in the future and where I see American manufacturers thriving is when alternative fuels are developed. Lets face it: it will be America that leads the world as far as alternative fuels for cars go. No other country has the same entrepeneurial drive and inventiveness of America. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Not entirely true.
Honda Civics scream "white trash" every bit as loud as a Camaro, just in a higher pitch. - DreKor, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9yes. yes it is.
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7First, it's aluminum. Second, that "old-tech crap" gets better mileage and makes more power than your new tech OHC.
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@dclowd9901 - You obviously haven't tried to change spark plugs on a new Camaro or TransAm. Talk about a PITA. You can barely reach a couple of them, let alone SEE them like you can in these pics. This car would be a dream to work on compared to the LT1/LS1 models. Those panels are probably just snap on covers.
@modsuperstar - So it looks too much like a first gen Camaro? - rondeth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Not all male car buyers give a flip whether or not women care if the car can go fast...believe it or not, some dudes dig raw horsepower. Insert any 'compensation' joke ya want, but driving a high HP car can be a ton of fun if you're into that sort of thing. Whatever blows yer skirt up.
- bjorni, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Why does something awful always happen between concept and production model?
Just do a google for Mustang Concept and look at what they made.
http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/concept/s197/2005.jpg - sir_nacnud, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I don't know what you are talking about, the hood scoop is definitely functional.
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6@shao00 - Who's going to be driving it? the same people that are driving their RX-8s at 17mpg except they'll actually get better mileage.
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Excuse me? Hugger orange is the *****.
- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Any pictures with the top up? I know that sounds stupid, but it really does make a difference since you wouldn't always have it down.
- profOblivion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@unloud
I might be wrong too, the display might be able to switch, but I see estimated fuel mileage, gear number, direction, headlight/wiper setting, and audio setting. In any case, I'll forgive them for the gauges since it's a concept. - fix8ed, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8@evil
A hard choice is coming in 2009...Camaro or Challenger. I'm a Mopar guy through and through but this Camaro is just flat out badass. - techsmack, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Awesome, a nice throwback to a classic look with keeping the modern feel of the corvette in the Camaro body. I think this will do well. Not to mention the photos are cool too.
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Umm, duh. WTF is your point?
- onehitwonder, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8instant penis extension...I feel a midlife crisis coming on.
