- DaveDaveson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34The best humour is often spontaneous and not laboured.
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Actually, my bad. The Cyrillic script is only used in the Tajik variant of Persian. This is the Arabic script.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_language#Dialects_and_close_languages - bethlagarrison, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25How is this "kissing muslim/arab/persian ass"? This is beautiful, creative design work - plain and simple - and it deserves to get dugg.
- englishganxta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Why don't you just change the start of your sentence to "AS racist as I am."
- twertyto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23That was really not funny.
- Daisama, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Why do people have to make racist and political comments?
Just appreciate the art, no matter where its from. - diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Kind of like people who don't know the difference between topology and topography?
- ThatsUnpossible, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Let's put your theory to the test.
http://www.kkkgallery.com/ - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17You're not even a clever troll. Blocked.
- bitt3n, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19lol nerdwar
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18There seems to be no middle-area these days on Digg. Arabs are either "leik omg all suicide bombers!!!1" or "unicorn beings with gentle souls and rainbow marshmallows".
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18The modern ones tend to show more than just an ankle.
- Warptera, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Why is everyone turning this into a political debate. It's just TYPOGRAPHY!
- deansfurniture5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11DuggMirror didn't seem to catch, neither did any other caches...
- metamorfoza, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16glad that you notice the difference..but, can't resist the question: do you even know how cyrylic script looks like?
- darkten, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Personally, I think its FANTASTIC that its turned into a "political debate"...I for one like to know who, and where these historically challenged, revisionist, hive-mind whack-a-doos are :)
It isn't even amazing anymore. It used to be, though. All you have to say is "Arab" or "Muslim" or "Islam" and you see the most hateful, bigoted, dare i say...National Socialist 2.5 types crawl out of the cracks of the interwebs.
And this "on the day Christ crucified"...the supposed role-model of these hateful, bewildered people. Sometimes, its enough to make you wonder if you're on the right planet...you know what I'm saying? - imants, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11This may look like spam (but it's not, as I have no affiliation), but if you want to see some awesome clothes with really awesome farsi script, check out http://www.nimany.com/ .
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's the script the Russian language is written in, from what I can recall. As I said, my mistake.
I also know the the Arabic script, as Urdu, one of the languages taught in my school - which is, incidentally, similar to my mother tongue, Hindi - is written in the Urdu script, a modification of the Perso-Arabic alphabet, which is a direct derivative of the Arabic script. - jrsims, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Some of us are, most are not.
- SebK666, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You're not liberal, you're just stupid, racist and xenophobe. I'm sure Muslims, Persians and Arabs don't like you either. Redneck...
SebK666 - Proud To Be Persian - Heliologue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Do you even know what the hell you're talking about? The Latin script, which is one semi-coherent script that arose from one branch of the many that make up the Indo-European language families, is the "natural base" for *any* IE language? Modern Persian came about in about 800 CE, influenced very much by the Arabic it had been absorbing for two centuries prior.
If you desire to be a historical purist, perhaps you should push for a revival of Old Persian cuneiform, or the Aramaic-derived Pahlavi.
But judging by your absurd political comments, I'm going to guess you don't have enough brain power to launch a penny racer, so I won't hold my breath for any sort of common sense from you. - counterplex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think it was a joke :) At least I found it hilarious!
- Jaymo89, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The Persian language can be expressed in the cyrillic, arabic or latin alphabet. There was an initiative to pick up the latin alphabet as the official alphabet, but it fell through after the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Persian is by no means exclusive to Iran, although it originally came from there. Persian is spoken by peoples in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan*, Azerbaijan*, Pakistan* and India*.
* denotes places where it is only spoken regionally. - darkten, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The middle one of the Klan pix was kinda a'ight...but overall they aren't very good.
*shrug* - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13I am proud to be a Persian.
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@ titlesaysitall: You're also quick to point out that 'Persian' (ethnicity) isn't the same as 'Iranian'. ;-)
- hoomanb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Me too!
I'll probably get thumb downs and blocked for this but: Iran is the land of arts... and I'm proud to be Iranian... - larley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Small sample, the link is to the same article... But at least you can see something.
http://blog.photos.com/archives/2007/01/_think_iranianp.php - nemp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is calligraphy, not typography. It's still beautiful, though.
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How is the Persian typography different from Arabic typography?
- bmalee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Erm...aren't Hindi and Sanskrit, among others, Indo-European languages? And Greek, and many others which aren't written in the Latin alphabet. If there is a "natural base" for IE languages (which I don't believe), it's not the Latin script.
- hoomanb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm from Tehran. My dad is from Tabriz.
- deathsquadx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5TOUCHÉ!
- Xepo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@fluffyarmada:
хехе, я нужно ответить, потому-что я люблю русский язык. И да, что Вы сказали правильно.
And yea, definitely a lot more languages use Cyrillic. Mostly Slovak languages. - kerrybreyette, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@metamorphoza
He spelled Cyrillic correctly. It's right there, how could you lose? - tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That confused me. Thank you.
- VinceNoir, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6America is being held hostage by the idiot brigade. We, the reasonable and true Americans apologize for our idiot of a president and the people who voted for him and have supported him and his administration. We're working on trying to get these ***** out of power. But they play dirty and one thing that reasonable people don't want to do is play dirty. So it makes it very hard to stick to our principals and yet rid this country of the villainous filth that pollutes the Whitehouse and various political and corporate positions. Please accept our apologies for the atrocities that the idiot brigade is foisting on the rest of the world.
A Reasonable American - counterplex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@thatsunpossible
That art hardly compares to what little I've been able to see of the persian calligraphy. I clicked on the link hoping to see some exquisite art since you seemed so confident but it wasn't even close. Show me KKK art that's actually decent and let's talk. - koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where in Iran are you all from?
- FluffyArmada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Вы говорите по–русски?
(I'm gonna feel really stupid when someone points out what I did wrong there... I'm sure I messed something up.)
And by the way, I think it's a lot more than just russian. I don't think the edit comment button is gonna give me enough time to look up any examples. :P - hoomanb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're not too different... The fonts are different although we use theirs and they use ours too and Persians have 4 extra characters.
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All the ex-Soviet Union languages, among many others.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_using_Cyrillic - koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool. I'm going to be passing through Tehran later this year, or early next year.
- tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He's being sarcastic. Look at his name. Next time, use the tag.
- addicted68098, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How could such a big website be running on a 56k line!
- alantocheri, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Very nice. I'm going to try to bring these into the clothing store I'm opening in July.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Culture not war
- ElFredo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Latin uses straight lines because the primary medium was stone. Calligraphy appeared later during the early middle ages, but the most prominent western art form was certainly illuminated manuscript.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. - nincrumpet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They most certainly are. It's all in the eyes.
