- benbenbenben, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1Just curious - can any of you evolutionists out there explain to me why it was necessary for the blue spot frog (or purple... pick your favorite one, I don't really care) to evolve into a blue (or whatever) frog? How is that supposed to help it adapt to its environment? Sorry to go off on a different subject, but it's just something I noticed.
- PureForm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5You obviously have a very limited understand of evolution. You should read up on something before attempting to discredit it.
- foth, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1How is he discrediting it? He's asking a legitimate question.
If he is trying to discredit, he'll probably be sad to learn that there's probably an answer somewhere.

- chongli, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The bright colors of these frogs serve as a powerful warning to would-be predators: stay away, I am very poisonous!
What good would the poison do if predators only found out about it (and died from it) after they had killed and eaten the frog?- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Case in point: some of these frogs can maim just by touching them. Some of the other brightly colored ones have enough poisons in them to kill a few men.

- TitaniumLizzard, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Yeah, I see beautiful colors when I lick a toad too. Big news :P
- masterdieff, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Licking frogs does not, nor has it ever gotten someone high. The grain of truth fueling these myths is that the venom of the Colorado River Toad contains a type of DMT. When dried and smoked, only the DMT is released; the harmful chemicals are incinerated. Thus, the inhaled vapors are psychoactive but not poisonous. The Cane Toad's venom does not contain DMT.
As a side note, nobody who knows of DMT's effects would call it a gateway drug. Though short-acting, it is one of the most intense hallucinogens known to man.
A herpetologist claiming knowledge of psychoactive chemicals is as absurd as a theologian commenting on the Theory of Evolution. It only results in the spread of misinformation.- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks for that. I actually would have kept spreading crap about people licking toads, if you hadn't pointed that out and I didn't look it up on Wikipedia. Now I'm just a little smarter.
- beatstriken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3anyone know where to find hi-res versions of those images?
- Parker307, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Too bad many of the worlds frogs are going or are already extinct.
- dugR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1The Azureus froggy!
- elfsky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0WOW - this is haven for the person that loves frog and design!
- motionone, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0As a writer of complex and colorful graffiti pieces, these color schemes will prove extremely helpful. Every frog's array can be used in different components of a piece. Schemes such as these that are found in nature often prove to be the best.
