Correction, mothers. But correction aside, what's your point? Hello MILF orgy - sphinx13, on 10/12/2007, -50/+4Brother doesn't necessarily mean kid.

- EvolvedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13The ears is what gives it away usualy for me. Something about them in these renders always looks a bit odd.
- tabularassa, on 07/13/2008, -0/+1HER ears look a bit odd
- maxman137, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Yeah, the ears definitely give it away, There's a little poly creasing in the hair too, and the SSS could probably be tweaked a bit. Still impressive, though.

I'd be a whore.
- ExpressZero, on 10/12/2007, -209/+113Her ears and hair are a dead giveaway. Shading on nose and nostrils also need work. Skin tone on neck and shoulders seems rushed, compared to her face
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -29/+91Well, sorry that this guy is not as great an artist as ExpressZero.
- Gamera, on 10/12/2007, -25/+37Err, yeah... I'd love to see some of your work, *Expert*Zero. If it's higher quality than THAT, then I'll apologize for diggin' ya down. (Not bloody likely)
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -15/+120Stop digging him down. He's critiquing a piece, and when you're as good as the artist, you need horribly critical minute details to improve.
- fro0ty, on 10/12/2007, -12/+109Yeah, as a 3D artist myself, I would agree with you ExpressZero, the ears need a lot of work doing.
Any experienced 3D artist would be able to work out in a few seconds that its a 3d model, There are a lot of clues that a 3D would notice, the hair is too prefect, ears don't look right, cloth is too prefect not a single crease, skin tone is too consistent, little signs that you pick up that its a rendered image, not a photograph.
Please understand that 3D artist revel critiques that pick up on absolutely minute details, its the only way that we improve.
I'm not saying his work is crap, its awesome!, however to 3D artists, no work is ever complete, you can always improve it that little bit more. - ywong137, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31If you look at the reference pictures on the forum links, you'll see that her ears really do look like that.
- bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Yeah, go to the last page in the forums to see the reference pics.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/maxedwin/songref2-1.jpg - zybch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23The corners of her mouth were the first things that gave it away for me. The hair isn't quite 'right' either, bit a ***** TON better than I could ever do.
- MikeyJW, on 10/12/2007, -11/+50Sheesh. What a rough crowd. The topic asks you flat out, "Could you tell if you didn't know". ExpressZero responds pointing out a couple minor flaws (presumably things that would have tipped him off that it was CG if he hadn't already known), and you guys digg him down and start acting all pissy and childish??? You guys sound like grade school kids saying (essentially) "Well I bet you couldn't do any better. So there! :-P". Come on.
At first I kinda liked the idea of digg, where everyone had a vote, but it's obvious that system doesn't guarantee quality comments any more than Slashdot's system of mod points does. All it takes is a bunch of weenies who totally miss the point of your comment, and BAM...you're dugg down so far your comment will never again see the light of day. That's probably what's going to happen to this comment too. So be it. - luciferin, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8He was dugg down because from the sound of his post he didn't look at the source. He more than likely had no idea it was a model of a real person and based on real photographs. While I agree that it's not "perfect" the ears are definitely not one of the problems.
- MikeyJW, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9@luciferin:
I read TFA, and I looked at the source, and upon reading ExpressZero's comment, I didn't get that impression at all. Seemed like a fair comment to me. I think people just overreacted. And as far as the ears go, I didn't notice anything wrong with them at first, but now that he pointed that out, I do think they look more than a bit fake. - RealityMonster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7The hair IS a giveaway, but if not prompted to try to look for differences -- so if a friend just sent me a link to some hot chick and it was her -- I wouldn't have noticed. If it were in a little quiz where I had to tell the real pictures from the CG renderings, I'd pick that stuff out.
- nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"Her ears and hair are a dead giveaway."
That was my first reaction too, though I probably wouldn't have noticed had I not been told it was a rendering. - smb3d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15You don't have to be a better artist to critique someones work.
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The biggest giveaway for me was her nose. Mainly the nostrils. But better then I can do in Poser lol.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1dude STFU
The only fishy thing is her gay smile. - missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If I hadn't been looking, I would have picked up the hair. Sometimes that's the only giveaway. After that, I might have noticed the clothing and the coloring on the shoulders. Overall, awesome.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Yeah, as a 3D artist myself, I would agree with you ExpressZero, the ears need a lot of work doing."
Actually, my only major beef with the skin overall is that it lacks subsurface scattering. Otherwise, she is a very fine model indeed. The corners of the mouth *might* be a little pinched, and the eyes might stare just a little, but as someone who lives in Japan and sees Japanese every day, she looks very realistic indeed.
The only thing that really gives it away is the hair. You can see that it's a texture mapped to polychains. Otherwise, I tend to find that "critiques" of 3D models of this caliber are usually quibbles over subjective details more imagined than real. - Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For example (damn digg's time-limited editing feature!) the skin tone can indeed be that even. Asian women tend to have finer skin than their Western counterparts, and any woman with any ability using foundation can have skin that smooth and even (just ask my Japanese wife.) Also, many beautiful Asian women have surprisingly big ears; it's actually considered a sign of good luck in Japan, indicating that that person will have fame and fortune in life.
Finally, the cloth creases will be completely dependent on the type of cloth used. Stiffer or heavier cloth is going to crease less. Lighting will also affect how hard the creases appear, and the ambient lighting in this image washes out the shadows a lot.
Critiques of high-caliber work of this type tend to be more subjective and imagined than real. I have had friends check video or images, and in one case, audio, that I have digitally altered and they usually end up saying that the stuff I haven't even altered is the fake. In the end, human faces are infinitely varied, making it impossible to determine what is "right." However, comments from your average person saying things like, "there's something about the eyes" are more telling giveaways that digital art isn't quite there yet.
- 2damntall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35I for one, definetly would have thought this was a photgraph. Dugg-zored.
- JayoxD, on 10/12/2007, -28/+7I dont see where people think it is a picture, but nonetheless very nice AMAZING CG
- daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50She's hot! I'm gonna print a thumbnail photo of her for my wallet and tell people she's my girlfriend. And then I'll say "Someone made her for me in the computer! Isn't she beautiful?"
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Her name is Song Hye Gyo (or Song HaeKyo). She's a Korean actress. I know who she is, so at first I didn't think anything of it, but she doesn't have a lot of wrinkles, and when expanded to full size, the hair is very CG. But it is amazingly accurate, nonetheless. Good work.
- kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9The pic looks totally real except the shirt and the bottom lobe of the ear. Also, the hair is a bit over-blurred. Otherwise, I would have thought that was real.
- DD32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Yeah.. her ears are naturally like that.. take a look at hte reference pics.

I was thinking to myself... "This has to be a joke... right?" - LegendarySock, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26I mean the smiley face, the space after the hyphen, the capitalized odd spelling of the word you ("U") and TWICE for that matter. And of course the did'nt... Wow...
- brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20That was the first thing I thought of...

not that I'd know anything about them. - Ricapar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31It's a bit old, but I'll digg because it's really amazing.
And for the record, "u" is not a word. And it's "Didn't".- hotely, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1He used "u" because he didnt have enough room in the title to fit all of the words, gotta think guys
- Virion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Even if that's why he used "U", he could have reworded it to be shorter, or added it to the description, or he could have cut the smile and spare space before the hyphen.
BAH! Curse you lazy IM-speak!

- Breeder18, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I think her cheeks need to be higher in response to her smiling?
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@breeder: Question marks are generally reserved for questions...
- milomilomilo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2the hair and plastic loon to the ears is what gives it waway.
still, amazing photo realistic work.
dugg. - hakr89, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5the hair looks a little bit fuzzy
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The hair gives it away, the mouth is oddly curved into a smile, and the ears are a bit weird looking... but it's fantastic for a render.
- Jadix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I think her skin is nearly perfect. its her dress that gave it away to me.
and theres something strange about her eyes. the only thing i can think of is that there is no soul.- DoctorDuckey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Agreed, very fembot. Nonetheless, pretty damn cool.
- colol, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah, the eyes have an eerie deadness to them. Looking at it more, the placement of the catchlights is also a little bizarre.
The lips curve in an unnatural, unnervingly weird sort of way.
Beyond those two (or three) little things, though, it's a damn good looking render. - SoundScape, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Her eyes don't have any arteries, they look glazed over - hence the soullessness.
Apart from that, the face is exceptional. I probably would've added more natural flaws to her neck, shoulders and dress. But that's just me - a SysAdmin with zero artistic talent. - finalcut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0her eyes are rendered with arteries - look closer. you can see individual capilaries in them.
this is one tough crowd; they are even finding flaws where they don't exist.
- mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That looks amazing. The face looks human, the only thing that might possibly give it away is how the light interacts with her face, doesn't look natural.
- transfire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The most interesting thing about it I think is that you can still see a lifelessness in the eyes. Deal with that and I really think no one could tell the difference.
- Ensorceled, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Interesting, the wispy hair and left ear are wrong but this is definitely back up out of the
valley.- effertroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, except that I have ears just like that, only a bit bigger, and mine are definitely real.
- effertroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, except that I have ears just like that, only a bit bigger, and mine are definitely real.
- ChewyChewbacca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Now if we could accomplish this in videogames it would be sweet.
- Fastrak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44If you want to see SERIOUS photorealism, look at
http://www.drublair.com/comersus/store/workshops/images/ticastepwebbig.jpg
I bet no one here can tell that THIS is NOT a photograph.
IF you want to see how Dru did it:
http://www.drublair.com/comersus/store/workshops/tica.htm- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's pretty amazing. However, from looking at both of these photos (the Korean model and this one), I think the easiest way to tell that it's CG is to simply look at the edges of the hair. It always looks a little weird -- sort of rough and clone-stamped or something to that effect. It's not even the same as the type of blur you'd get from a shallow depth of field on a real photo.
- Fastrak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This one
http://www.drublair.com/comersus/store/workshops/images/ticastepwebbig.jpg
is actually an airbrush PAINTING!
The guy who did this (Dru Blair) did most or all of the Star Trek book covers and some other posters.
For the Star Trek stuff see:

and
http://www.drublair.com/comersus/store/comersus_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=55 - idmclaren, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I absolutely cannot believe that that is not real. That blows EVERYTHING away that I've ever seen touted as photo-realistic. Wow. That's F****ing insane. Wow.
- SoundScape, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's pretty ***** amazing, and deserving of curse-words. :)
- stuffhappens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's a good rendering, but the earring looks as if it was photoshopped on afterwards - shame as the rest is very good.
- dallen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's not a rendering, it's a painting
- av4rice, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I'll believe that's CG, but what's this all about: "They thought this was a pic until he turned over the wireframe"
Anyone could take a real photo, make a non-photorealistic model of it, and then superimpose the wireframe on top of the photo as "proof" that everything was "actually" CG. Hell, you could even just open the original photo in Photoshop and draw in your own wireframe. Plenty of better ways to prove that this is CG.- ZaNkY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A download of all source would be cool in that case... :D
the model itself + textures - JDex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually with the 1,000s of trained and experienced eyeballs at CGSociety... that would be caught very quickly. It's a valid CG project.
- ZaNkY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A download of all source would be cool in that case... :D
- gd007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1awesome!
- darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Recreating humans in 3d is such a freaking difficult thing. You have to account for SOOOO many damn variables when rendering it's not funny. :) I hate it when people bag it when they don't know how amazingly insane it is to pull off things like this.
I'm still new to 3d but the stuff I have seen in the industry (I have worked with warner animation on a few occasions) is just phenomenal. For a single person to pull something off is just ..wow :) - RubixCube, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Check out his Natalie Portman he made too
http://features.cgsociety.org/gallerycrits/199846/199846_1141285931.jpg- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27That one looks a little too "Natalie Portman as evil killer android" for me. There's something soulless about it.

- SoundScape, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Natalie Portman with long hair = Hot.
Natalie Portman bald = Hot.
Natalie Portman with that in-between length = Not so hot.
And this doesn't look real at all (again, not that I could do any better). - Samuarl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, she looks too... plastic in this one.
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6XD This is perfectly photo realistic, plain and simple.
all you people that think ur experts cause you think her hair doesn't look right... I've seen photos photos of peopl that looked more CG than her.
Honestly, if this was placed in a group of pictures of other rmodels... no one could tell the difference. - timmarhy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i think the lips look a little fake, but then there are plenty of real people with fake looking lips so if i didn't know this was a rendering i probably wouldn't pick up on it.
well done. - Chris3d, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Where have you guys been for the past few years? That isn't the first realistic CG picture. I personally subscribe to 3D World magazine, and have been seeing fan submitted art close to or just as realistic. If you are interested in CG art, 3D World mag is a must. www.3dworldmag.com
- darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2LOL people are still allowed to admire stuff like this...
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The weird thing is how this actually looks like someone has taken a photo of 'her' with the average digital camera. Notice how it certainly doesn't look like a photo taken in a studio. I think this adds to the realism even more.
Really nice work. - SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Damn, now someone needs to render a ultra realistic towel
- ajimmykid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11wow what crapass grammar and spelling

- dbobs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1*blink* Wow.
- peregrine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The ears gave it away.
But that is one good render. Damn good render.
Wow. But with everything their are people just as good if not better. Just look around cgtalk and you will find. - ZenMasterJG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Its very, very good, but you can amost always tell by the hair. Doing realistic hair is *HARD*

http://www.creativebush.com/gmeshtutorial/ - JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I've examined the wireframe and am able to confirm that it is indeed a 3-D rendering. The wireframe data was very small, consisting of a single polygon with four vertices with the scan of the photograph centered on it.
- steambeak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0oh yes, the simple addition of steep parallax displacement mapping on a wireframe that light must have been the cause of the "hair" and "earlobe" critiques. when, oh when will they learn? there needs to be much higher geometry to be able to play god!

- enronias, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Don't get why these stories keep popping up, they always look fake and are visibly rendered, but still "you could't tell the difference if you didn't know" . . . bs . . . no digg
