autistics are one of those lucky groups with positive stereotypes.
well, not entirely...but you know what i mean.
i love ***** like this. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+60When I was a kid, I didn't have a computer or videogames and I didn't play D&D or RPGs. However, I did like creating worlds and campaigns for D&D. On more than one occasion (before I was a teenager), I began creating a massive and thoroughly detailed world and society. Everything from geography to people and societies and animal life and physics. Everything.
Then, I got bored. Like - really quickly.
Kudos to this kid though. That's just crazy. He needs to design some MMOs. :) Get a team of autistic kids like that to keep creating in-depth MMO content at Blizzard. :D - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40Here's a link to his own site. This guy is incredible!
http://urville.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35Are you asking us or telling us? :P
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32You miss the point. We must cultivate this behavior so that we can contain and exploit it for our personal benefit. Now if only we can find a use for old people...
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26I'd really love to see a 3d model of this city. Maybe it could be the backdrop for a game.
Imagine.... Grand Theft Auto: Urville - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Wow. I'm not sure if this was meant to be one of those "person with a disability does something noteworthy," but this is just cool whether he's autistic or not. Go him.
- stokestack, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21L.A. should immediately and completely be replaced by this guy's drawings. Not even the city in the drawings; the pieces of paper with the drawings are better than the reality of L.A.
- kernelhappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17"Hey, I guess they're right. Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose. I'll be right back. Don't you go dying on me! "
- l7productions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Some of his drawings are for sale:

- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18i think he should be an architect?
- Chongo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14The guy should write a fiction novel (saga) that takes place in this city......could gain a lot of followers if written well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Sign this guy up to work on Elder Scrolls V!
That's some serious skill right there! - bowe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1843104199/sr=8-1/qid=1143135953/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-1137530-4371311?%5Fencoding=UTF8
He doesn't need to be an architect, he'll just publish this book. People will digg it and then he'll be rich as the slanket guys. - mr_cheese28, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14now if that guy could make that city out of Legos, I would really be impressed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Or a city government planning, economic, and community development director!
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Quick, somebody write up a wikipedia article about Urville. :o

- mv10, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I dont know why people consider Autistic kids disabled.. Most Autisitic kids are BRILLIANT. Hes amazing. Digg++
- steveoa3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It's nice to see so many positive things written here about this autistic man. As the father of a 3 year old autistic son, it gives me hope not only that he will live a happy life, but that many people will accept him as who he is. My sons a good kid, he loves letters, numbers and words. He reads at a 3rd grade level right now, he knew his alphabet by 11 months. He talks alot even if its somewhat scripted, has a lot of fun and makes us all laugh.
Autism is reaching epidemic numbers, some autism groups say 1 in 105 boys will have it and even the CDC now says 1 in 150 where it was 1 in 600 ten years ago.
Austic people are different, they are just wired different than we are, but they still can bring a lot to table. If you don't know anyone who is autistic, you more than likely will down the road. Give them a chance, they are different but they are great to associate with. - Gottschalk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12If you're looking for a worthy cause know that I am building a scale replica of this thing in Nigeria and I'm prepared to sell you some of the beach front property for low or no money down you just have to sign up for my record club.
- Diggs, on 10/12/2007, -11/+18Art Vandaley could do better...
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Like 16 years worth of patience?
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9As I do agree with you, just seeing the capabilities this person shows, I could not tell he has anything including autism. Maybe the tittle was wrong, but what matters if the link behind it.
- mianos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Anybody ever seen a film in the cinema? Before they do major production they do storyboards and drawups just like this. Seen 'Dark City' if so, guys like Peter Collias sit down at a desk and draw this stuff up as a day job. Sure this stuff is good but it's not a first or particularly big.
- mousky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There is no autism epidemic. What you are seeing is a result of a intentional broadening of diagnostic criteria including an increase in diagnostic categories, public awareness and more funding. In the past, it was not uncommon for severe cases of autism to be diagnosed simply as mental retardation. Today, there is a wider range of diagnostic categories with an ever growing list of diagnostic criteria (usually accompanied by a loosening in the number of criteria that must be met). Compare each new version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) with the previous one and you will see the changes. One study concludes that 75% of new autistic/PDD diagnoses are mild in nature - Asperger's and Otherwise Specified diagnoses are big these days. Besides, mental disorders are no epidemics - you can't catch Autism or OCD.
- dbrodbeck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Autistic people hold down jobs, work in many fields have families etc. Only an idiot thinks all autistic people cannot function.
- kenz0r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8hey thenik, there IS digg users in non-english speaking countries you know. not everybody has english as their first language
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That is amazing. Totally amazing. I wish I had that much patience to do something like that and keep interested in it.

- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What else would he be doing with his time? Something that you enjoy?
If he is doing something that brings him happiness, then it is a great use of his time. - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Appears to be available here: http://www.jkp.com/catalogue/book.php/isbn/9781843104193

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What about that autistic kid who made up an entire universe set around a Boston hospital set in the 80s?
- CubeFarmDrone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Bravo! This shows that if we all focused our energy into something creative instead of thinking about sex all day, we could do great things. My creative juices are flowing.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5you are a spin-off genius. good job.
- Stockwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is just amazing.
A complete town with everything included, detailed, worked out....
I'm bookmarking that for easy reading tonight. This is one that is too good to let go by.
I feel small and little know....
A big shout and a serious big DIGG for this.
in 1 word: R.E.S.P.E.C.T. - codeyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6A scary thought hit my mind... what if all the history we are forced to believe is true is just a detailed work of an autistic. May be stuff never happened... I am talkiing about ancient age. May be the kings summoned some sort of autistic to pull an elaborate heist on us...
- penguain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Im autistic with the same form of autism as he has(Asperger's syndrome) and i'm not offended by the title at all
- penguain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Im autistic with the same form of autism as he has(Asperger's syndrome) and i've read that book... it is THE BEST autism book out there
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This could form the basis of a MMORPG, or a city sim.
- sublimethinker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Maybe the human brain really does have a petabyte of storage....O.o
- Aussie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's amazing regardless. If he was the best engineer/designer in the world, it would still be amazing.
- canyadiggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nearly everyone in Urville walks alone. Interesting.
- lostboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5quite, quite amazing! This is one reason why I've never considered austism to be a disability, people who are autistic are more accurately differently-abled, not dis-abled. Without a doubt I will be buying the book when it comes out.
I wonder if anyone has approached him about modelling it on a computer? - c4171, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you dugg this, you should read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (if you havent already). Ignore the Oprah book club logo, it's a very very entertaining read with quite a glimpse into how autism works (the author worked with autistic children for a long time)
- paroxsitic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@smokester & greytoque
The term "black" is more or less slang for an African descendant. It seems wrong to say "a black" but it does not seem apparently wrong to say "an African American".
Your statement would be true if the term "Autistic" was slang, but it is not. An example of slang for autistic would be a retard. In that case the difference between "a man who is retarded" "a retarded man" and "a retard" is very apparent. - antheo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8amazing this guy was in my class in College !!!
